Hello, We are also trying to piece together the Donner family descendants as they are in our ancestry. My great grandmother was Clara (sp?) Donner who became Mrs. John Diegelman. She was born appoximately 1885 ish. Also have another family member who is our great great grandmother. Her name is Kathryn Donner. She was born in about 1874. Please help us connect if you have any idea how this all fits together. Thanks so much!!

I am also a Donner. I've started looking for ancestry from Bernard and Mary Shanley Donner. These are my Great-great Grandparents. Their son Michael was my great g.f. His son John was my grandfather. Alvin Francis was my father. Trying to get past Bernard and Mary but hit a road block. Going to Ireland and would like to know where they are from. Any hints?
Your grandfather was my grandfather's brother. Mine was older i believe.
thanks, Mary Colleen Donner Pereira
Ponchatoula, Louisiana

Hi, Between the Fiegl/Fiegel family and Seefried family, I suspect we relate somewhere? I don't have any of your Donner names in my data base though? I was born and raised in Lockport, graduating from the last class at St Joseph's Academy in 1957. Have lived in Florida since 1960. My sister and many cousins still live in Lockport and the surrounding area in western NY. Glad I'm not there now-don't miss shoveling snow even a little bit. Merry Christmas!
Michigan Donners

I am looking for Donner connections to my Gunning family tree. I have my great-grandfather Robert William Gunning living with the George C Donner family in the 1990 census and my father (living) confirms the Donners are relatives of his. In the 1900 census, Robert Gunning is listed as brother-in-law, but is it to George Donner (via a currently unknown sister) or through his wife, Mary Ann, who maybe was a Gunning before she married George Donner? George and Mary Ann have lots of kids and are traceable back to the 1870 census (so far). In 1870, they had one child, Fanny, aged 4 months. In the 1880 census, they have 5 children, but no mention of Fanny, she must have died young. Children in the 1880 census are Nora A. (10), George (6), Isabella (3), and William (1). Also listed is Francis Donner, listed as sister of (I assume) George Donner. My great grandfather, Robert William Gunning, and his wife Viola, show up on the same page of the 1880 census as the Donner family, so they were neighbors to each other. Also, in the 1900 census, my great grandfather is shown living with this same Donner family and is listed as "brother-in-law". So, I am trying to determine my family's relationship with this Donner family. Was Viola, wife of my great grandpa, a sister to George Donner? Or, was Robert a sister to George's wife Mary Ann? Any help or infor would be appeciated.

Lora Gunning
Seattle, WA

Hi, I'm a Donner too! My dad, was a 7th generation Donner in Algiers. My grandfather was John Joseph Donner 1927-2006 and his father was Bernard Donner. The town of Donner got its name because one of the Donner's was a railroad engineer and when they arrived in that town, it was unnamed. The people who were settling there, asked what his name was and he replied "Donner." True story, even have a painting in the family depicting it. Hope this helps.

Debbie - my name is Kathy Szilasi, nee Donner. You are referring to my father Albert Donald Donner, born January 18, 1915 to Ida Bertha Miller and my grandfather, that we knew as Neil Benhenry Donner, he actually died before I was born at about the age of 54-56. I know his birthday was May 9th but do not recall the year, he is buried in Carpentersille, Illinois. I was the youngest of four children and I do have a sister, heryl, in Florida. My brother, Daniel, died at age 50 and we had a sister that died at birth. My father died in February of 1985. He did have one sister, Marlene, who was 18 years younger (9-17-32) than him and is now deceased.

Would love to hear from you, I have a little information about my father's family. I did notice that you mentioned Dudley in one of your queries and I remember having visited an Orin Dudley in California when I was young and I remember mention of a Dorothy Born who I think is Orins sister and I believe she lived in Idaho. After my father's death my mother remarried, she married my father's cousin Frank Peterson, his mother's name was Doris and she was a Donner.

I am looking for further information on Edwin William Donner. His death certificate list him as being born in Hamburg Germany on April 13, 1846 and having died on Aug. 11, 1914. It lists his father as Gustave Donner from Hamburg Germany. His mother was listed as unknown. He married Caroline (Carrie) Knobelock from Tobin, Perry Co., IN about 1879 or 1880 and they moved to Cincinnati, OH. They had 3 sons and 3 daughters - Elizabeth, Frederick William, Gustav Charles, Alice Amelia, Edwin Robert, and Hazel May. Family stories mention that Edwin William came to the US with a brother and that the two were separated in New York and never found each other. If anyone has further information on Edwin William, his brother, their father Gustave Donner, or any ancestors I would be interested in sharing information.

Bob Renner
