I would be very interested to find out as well. My last name is Dossett and I know my family has a lot of roots in Dale County. I believe I remember hearing the name Hiram a long time ago when i was a kid. My father, William Micheal Dossett, son of John William Dossett (married to Retha Hutto). I know the 'William' part has been handed down for at least 9 generations before me to the first born son as well. I don't know if this helps. Let me know what you find out.

I am researching the Dossett family of Echo, Alabama in Dale County. William James Dossett was a civil war veteran who and he had a brother named Hiram Elbert Dossett. I am trying to find out the name of their father. Their father may have moved over to Henry County, Alabama (now Dale County)from Stewart, Georgia. NC as having migrated from Maryland to NC no later than 1762, when the land grant from Lord Granville was finalized. I would love to know what Orange Co. NC Dossett researchers think of this data!

(Patricia's note: the fact that Henry willed his property to a brother and Aunt instead of children, indicate that he had no children. If this is the Henry of PG Co. MD, then he was born in 1728 and only 31 years old when he died. This will definitely links Henry Dossett of Frederick Co. VA with a brother Francis, and Sarah Swearingen's presence in the will ties both of them to Prince George Co. MD.)

Prince George's Land Records 1739-1743 - Liber Y - Page 605. (But then Francis with an I, a male, turns around and sells the same piece of land. I think the 1733 reference spelled the name wrong, because clearly this must be the same Francis because it is the same piece of land and this Francis has a wife!!!)
Feb 21, 1742 from Francis Dorsett of PG, carpenter, to Major Jeremiah Belt of PG, Gent, for 27 £ 10 shillings, a tract of land called Plague Enough, being part of a tract called the Orphans Gift, containing about 40 acres. Thank you for your informative post. I am particularly interested to know how you came up with the list of children for your 1st generation Francis Dossett. Can you identify the source of that info, and give us some background about exactly what is contained in that source?

I am posting today on this family board additional information on the Francis Dossetts in Prince George Co. MD, whom I believe are highly likely the same family who immigrated to Orange Co.NC prior to 1762 when their land deed was finalized by Lord Granville.

There apparently were 2 Henry Dossetts in town: Henry N. Dossett and Henry Suel Dossett. Henry N. Dossett was an insurance agent, and Henry Suel Dossett a farmer.

The "missing" Henry N. Dossett was found on the 1920 census with his same wife and kids in St. Louis, Missouri.

Henderson, KY March 1---The family of H.N. Dossett is worried over his disappearance. Dossett, a fire insurance agent, left the city Sunday and has not been heard from. He is about 60 years old, prominent church man and member of the Masonic Order.

This is Henry Dossett, per the 1910 Henderson Co. KY census.

Im not sure where my side of the Dossett family comes from however I do know that Robert Lee Dossett has been a family name dating back to my grandfather who was from Kentucky I believe. He wasnt in touch with his family so that is as far back as I know my family history on that side. Im really interested in knowing more if you can help.

I am also looking for Robert Chesely Dossett. I have come across the Philip Dossett line and found some pictures of Dossetts from Late 1800s. This line of Dossetts carries the same family resemblace as mine. The shape of the face the forhead and long face. The ears that stick out on the sides. I am wondering if anyone has been able to locate the parents of Robert Chesley? Or suspect he may come from this line.Thanks Anna

Andrew Jackson Dossett was born 8 Dec 1843 in Indiana and is my great grandfather. He died 10 Oct 1921. He married Mary E. Reneer 29 Jan 1866 in Gibson County Indiana. She was born in 1846 and died 24 December 1898. They Had 3 children; Rosa, Rosella, and George Franklin, my grandfather.

WANTED IN TENNESSEE

A Man Who Murdered His Brother-in-law Found at Jones City

Oklahoma City: Sheriff Mike O'Brien received a telegram from the Tennessee authorities stating that a sheriff would reach Oklahoma City shortly to secure Thomas Dossett, now in jail here, awaiting removal to Tennessee, for trial on the charge of murdering his brother-in-law at LaFollette, Tennessee, several years ago.

Dossett, who has been living in Oklahoma for some time under the assumed name of Clark, was arrested by Deputy Sheriff Cokel at Jones City where he was employed in a distillery.

Dossett admitted the killing to the officers, but protests it was done in self-defense.

A man from the same neighborhood in Tennessee, where Dossett lived recently came here and recognized him. Returning to Tennessee he told the authorities where they could find Dossett and his arrest is the consequence.

Looking for information on Edward Everett Dossett. Born 16 Sept 1906 probably in Texas. Married a Odessa Mae Hutcheson the child of Cyrus Hutcheson and Martha Marie Blowers, on Aug 30, 1933. Edward was 5'11" and weighed only 145 lbs. Worked as a "Carney" with traveling Carvinals before he got married. Edward and Odessa didn't stay married long. Odessa was pregant when she divorced him. Verdie Dossett was my great grandmother. Her fathers name was Joseph. Her last living child passed away 2 1/2 years ago at age 92. Her name was Lorene Short. She had 13 children. I did notice that your message was an old one but thought I would attempt an answer to you. If you are still interested in any info you can let me know. I also can send you a picture of Verdie that was taken shortly before she passed away.

CECIL W. DOSSETT "Cec" as he was fondly called by his friends, a long time Highland resident, passed away on June 1, 2007, at age 91, at the Veterans' Hospital in Loma Linda. He was born in Twin Falls, Idaho, an only child, but spent his early years helping on his parent's farm, and enjoying fun times with his four beloved cousins, who lived nearby. His college years were spent in Caldwell, Idaho, and he subsequently moved to Seattle, W ashington, and obtained his Master's Degree in Social Services from Washington State University. "Cec" loved people, had great respect for his friends, was always available if help was needed and was an animal lover. Back in Idaho he held positions in his field of social work, one with a blind institution and as County Supervision for the State of Idaho, Dept. of Public Assistance. He loved the sea and sailing, moved to Seattle again from where he volunteered with the U.S. Coastguard, served in the Pacifi c Islands during WWII, and retired with the rank of CDR. He met & married Joan McEwan in 1956, and they spent many happy times sailing, dancing, camping, trips to Europe and subsequently moved to San Bernardino where he took the position of Director of Social Services at the "old" S.B. County Hospital, retiring in Sept. 1977. He was preceded in death by his parents, two of his cousins and their wives. Survived by his loving wife, Joan; nieces, nephews, and many close family members in the U.K. Interment will be private.

No information I can find on the Dossett Henegar connection however do have a connection to the Dossett in two ways.. Husband is as follows.
Hendersen Dossett b. 1835 d.1900 m. Lucy Hope b.1833 d.1915
do not have date of marriage.
Children I have are Ed, Mary, Rhoda, Nancy Jane, Kitty, Bill, Houston, Tom. Think this is birth order but not sure. Nancy married George Washington Brown. They had the following children..
Nannie, Hattie, Maude, Henry, Myrtle, Catherine, known as Kitty, She Married James Jerone Adams Husband's grandparents. Would love to know more on this family.

My Great Grandfather was Peter Henegar (b. 1868)and he married Emma Dossett (b. 1872) both of Union Co. TN (LaFollette area). My grandmother was Bertha Henegar Lay. Does anyone have any information on Peter or Emma. I have info on their children, grand children etc. if anyone needs it.

The George Dossett that I have has Christian County, KY listed as his birth place on his death certificate, but his father is shown as having been born in TN. There could be a connection here. I only know of one child that George had named Charles, but I am sure there were others. Documentation is hard to find on the Dossett clan. Do you know what your great-grandmother's name was, as that would determine even better if we have a connection here. I have access to 2 websites that show the Dossett lineage & will give you access to both is we find a connection here.

Did your George Dossett live in Campbell County, TN.?
My Grandmother Laura Elizabeth Dossett Burton, list her father as George Dossett on her death certificate. - mother unknown. Laura Dossett married my grandfather Nelson Burton in Campbell County, TN, in 1892, but I have not been able to find Laura or her family living in Campbell county prior to her marriage.

I'm beginning to assist my mil in her family research. Her name is Imogene, her mother was Doshua Fae Dossett bd. 17 Sep 1898, Kay Co. OK, and her grand mother was Dochia Dossett bd. 18 Oct 1877. Doshua Fae married Levy Allen Noblet bd. 30 Sep 1892, (?) Heartford, Ark (?). Beyond that I haven't much info except the elder Dochia was born while in route from Iowa to Kansas, possibly in Nebraska.
