I believe we're related. I am related through the Rodgers family by the marriage of Cornelius (Connell) Rodgers and Anne Ellen Dougan (Dugan...though I presume your spelling is the correct one). I'd love to compare notes. I can't find anything beyond Thomas. I've got some notes on the "Donegal Colony" part of things, but am stuck trying to find the actual location of their "farm".

Thanks,
Brian

Hi Y'all,
My name is John Wm Maschler Sr. born 23 June 1944 south of Louisburg, Ks. My mother was Helen M. (Dougan) Maschler. Her mother was Alice Crockett (Coomes) Dougan who was married to William Homer Dougan of Stanley, Ks. Grandmother Dougan's friends and relatives called her by the nick name "Allie". Grandma and Grandpa Dougan owned a farm four (4) or five (5) miles south of Stanley, Ks on old sixty nine (69) highway where the 69 hwy crosses the Blue River. I was back there about five (5) or six (6) years ago and found that all of their houses and out buildings are gone. Additionally, the highway has been rerouted a couple of times and when I was back there, hwy 69 had been relocated to run N/S about four(4) or five (5) miles west of Stanley, Ks. The only thing that I could see that was from back when Grandpa and Grandma lived there was the single lane Steel Bridge Frame works from old sixty nine hwy where it crossed the Blue River. Many an accident was caused by that single lane bridge and sharp curves.
I am getting pretty "long in the tooth" and my health is not good. I do not figure to have much longer. I have found and entered over seven thousand of our relatives into My Family Tree.
If I can be of any assistance to you in your search just let me know how and I will do what I am able. If there is anything that you wish to share with me on the Coomes or Dougan line, I would be very appreciative.
God Bless and Keep Y'all Safe
John

I might be able to help some.

I have James Dougan born 6 Jan 1754, Lancaster County, PA, USA. Died 10 Feb 1837, Winchester, Franklin, TN, USA. I have that he was married to Hannah Sharp but I do not have their kids. I come from his baby brother Robert's line. I do know that both Robert and James were early settlers in the Franklin County, TN area. They are both mentioned in this article about Franklin County http://freepages.history.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~pearidger/hi... .

My family roots are in Galloway and have always been told that the Scottish Dougans were originally from there and nowhere else! There is a Loch Dougan in Kirkudbright and a place called Douganhill.
There was also a 15th century bishop of Galloway named Dougan(or Adougan to be exact).
I would be interested to know if anyone disputes this origin of the Dougan clan.

I've been researching Lillian Symington Dougan, married to Archibald Dougan. I had found her passport applications previously. She had two, several years apart and they both had photos.

When I had an Ancestry subscription I had saved those passport and the photo image. Apparently it was on a previous computer and I don't have a subscription anymore.

If anyone has a subscription, could you find those applications and send them to me via a link. I am primarily interested in the photos on the applications.

Lillian and Archibald emigrated from Ireland in May 1880. If I recall she returned in 1919 and later in 1924.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. I'm putting together a photo history and wanted to show how her neice looks just like her.

Thanks,
Roxanna

I am looking for information about my great great grandmother and her family. Her name was Mary and she married 3 times (Dougan, Russell, Miller). One of her children immigrated to Toronto, Canada but im not sure if they were a Dougan, Russell or Miller. Mary Miller sailed to Canada when she was 88 with her daughter Mary Rainey to visit her grand-daughter and her great grand children. She lived in Birmingham at this time. Mary had 7 children - Sarah, William, Assie, Martha, Mary, Annie and Clara.

If you think any of this information sounds familar to you and you are a relative of Mary Miller please contact me as I am very keen to find out some information as I have limited information on this woman.

Alison Holmes
Email: alisonholmes@rocketmail.com

You are the best!! Thank you so much but I have this information already. But I am stuck from here.

What is so confusing to me is if you look at several census he never says the same thing twice. One shows born in AZ, the other Canada, same with his parents, Ireland another England. I am so confused and my darn family will not help me. My Aunt (his Daughter) actually told me to leave it alone.

I would love to talk with you at length. That is if you don't mind. May I call you?

Thank you again. I have been searching forever

your new friend

Darryl J. Root

James Alexander DOUGAN
My Name is Darryl Jon ROOT,

I have hit a brick wall with my great grandfather. I am now begging and pleading for help. I have posted this information back in April 2010 and had no replies. Please, Please help me.

James Alexander DOUGAN B abt 1895 in Canada or Ireland. D 07, May 1941 in San Francisco, San Francisco, California, USA. Married to Algalene Virginia HENTON. Children are my grandmother Betty Jim DOUGAN, Virginai Lee DOUGAN, Rose DOUGAN, Pat DOUGAN and Sharon Lynne DOUGAN. There is a family story that the name was O'DUGAN or O'DOUGAN but he was tired of putting the O so when he came to America from Canada he dropped it. It is my understanding that his parents are from Ireland and left during the Potatoes famine into Canada. I cannot confirm this. The only information I can confirm is his wife and children, his name and his death. His only living daughter will not talk to me about him. She was just a few years old when he died. I asked my grandmother about him before she died but she did not tell me anything either.

Please help me find his parents and siblings. Any information, stories, photos would be helpful.
I know that the family history community is about helping others. So, please, please help.

Please email me at irpappyroot2@yahoo.com

Thank you

Darryl J.
Sorry folks but I think you are both wrong, most of the Irish who went first to Scotland before moving on to the many other countries underwent a name change. Dugan and Duggan entries that appeared in early church records were later recorded as Dougan. Keane became Cain, Lenihan became Lenaghan not to mention the many who had a Mc or Mac stuck on the front like Mac Dougan. It pays to check out all the different spellings for what is now Duggan. Kindest regards, Paddy

I just came across this post. My husband's family tree has Dougans. I've been researching them only the past few months. I must have an error in my tree as I have Thomas Dougan getting married to Mary Kerr in North Carolina. I have his parents as a Thomas Dougan (no date of birth, death 1776) and Eleanor ? I have Thomas the 2nd being born in 1746 and James being born in 1754. I would appreciate any help you can give.

Robin

Do you have any earlier information? I have been reading about a name change and coming from Ireland. My e-mail address is shamrock172@verizon.net. We live in southern Indiana. So far it is Michael, Elvis, Ross, John, Samuel Jr. and Samuel Sr. married to Mary Dickey. can you help me find more information?

James Alexander DOUGAN
My Name is Darryl Jon ROOT,

I have hit a brick wall with my great grandfather. I am now begging and pleading for help. I have posted this information back in September and had no replies.

Thank you

Darryl J.
