Greetings, I too link to Henry Dove. But since he was born in 1723 in Germany, and Henricus Dubois is born in NY around 1710, I have my doubts about this link--despite the fact that everyone on ancestry.com makes this connection.

Should you ever find confirmation, please let me know

Hello Tom, I too am in that family John c. Dove jr was my great grandfather. I have gotten back to Nicholas Dove Born 1740. Actually I have got his dad also just no birth. He came from England I believe. I did find a travel card on him but cant get anymore because I dont have access to the England part. If I can help in any way please let me know. I also would be interested in anything you have. I have just started this and only have names and kids at this point. Glad to meet you... Me (Mel Dove), Nelson, Harvey Lafayette, John Harvey, Benjamin, Richard C, Benjamin.
I believe your line goes through Curtis Bunion and Margaret Scott. He was the son of Benjamin and Mary Roberts. His father was William WHO is the brother of my Bejamin. William's father was Richard C. I admit I could be far wrong, since I have no children under Curtis Bunion. Let me know how bad wrong I am. I would love to fill in your line.

Looking for the enslaved DOVE boys… William, Basel/Bazil and Osborne

I have hit a Brick Wall, can you help!

William Dove born about 1830...Is listed at age 17 aboard the slave brig General Pinckney. The Slave Manifest lists the brig as leaving Baltimore MD for New Orleans 19 Jan 1847.

This is the only information I have on William.

Listed with William was Basel Dove age 15 and Osborne Dove age 11. I have found Basel/Bazil and Osborne on the 1870¸ 1880, and 1900 censuses in Mississippi.

• Who owned them in Maryland?
• Where were they from 1847 to 1870?
• Where did they go/who purchased them when they disembarked in 1847 @ New Orleans?

I would really appreciate hearing from you if you have any information or suggestions which can help me possibly fill in the blanks.

What was your grandmother's name? Grandmother was Gertrude Curtis Dove (Robert's wife)Not sure when but the got a divorce and grandma married William Horn. grandma passed in 2002.
When was she born / died?
Do you know of any brothers or sisters for Robert? I don't have any of their name but I'm told he had sister. he was born in Kansas City, Massur. in 1925 and he ? was laid to rest in Washington in 1977.at least that is what my Aunt thinks.
Where is "Washington City"? I know they lived in texas for a while because I think that is where some of the other kids where born.

There are still too many Robert Moore's to sift through without more details.

You said your mom was born in Oakland, CA. Did the family stay in California (Robert and his wife)

William Alexander Dove is buried in Old Pisgah Cemetary outside of Marthaville, Louisiana. His son James Pickney Dove is buried in Marthaville Cemetary and one of his sons Roscoe Leonard Dove is buried in Beulah Cemetary outside of Marthaville, Louisiana and most of his children are buried at Memory Lawn Cemetary in Natchitoches, Louisiana.
William would be my great great grandfather.

you are so right ... my father said we were English, only because he hated the Irish .... he didn't really know where the name Dove came from. .... I understand our clan came up thru Tenn. and settled in Eastern and Southern KY? my father was born and raised in Summerside, Ky. ... as you know Summerside is close to the Tenn. border..all the tracing I have done referes to our clan coming from Ireland..

dont freak me out at all BIll ! .... but all the info i have gotten referes to the sur-name Dove starting in Scotland/Ireland ? ... McDuff, Duffy, ... some say it started in England? there were many different clans of Dove's and migrated widely but where the name origanated no one knows for sure .

My name is Catherine and I saw your ancestry post when I was working on my Christmas card list and checking on addresses for old friends of ours.

I am not sure that I have the information you are seeking but it's worth a try.

When we lived in California, there was a dear lady who went to church with us named Sybil Dove. She had a British accent and as best as I know never married or had children. My girls and I adopted her along with a couple older ladies at church since we lived so far from their actual grandparents.

Could this be your Sybil Dove? I'm not sure but when I am doing genealogy research I find it is much harder when I get to my grandmother's family on back as they were all British and Irish and researching across the pond seems to make it all much harder.

I'm Bruce Swanson. My mother was Joan Dove, granddaughter of Wm F Dove. I can't find a picture of Wm, and I'm wondering if you have one. My uncle has provided a picture of James Dove Sr. It is in the media section of my tree. We also found an unusual connection of the Gangnagels. Susan, Caroline, and Elise as well as Fritz settled in Warren after the Civil War. I have a 1878 Glade, Pa map that shows the homes of the Gangnagels.
