Did they live? Is this family related to Harriet SARGENT + Samuel Marshall PERRY, both born OH, married in Coles Co. IL 1868?

Downey from Wales (late 1800s - present)

I am searching for my grandmother's family. Her parents are John Downey (b 1870-1876) and Catherine Sullivan -possibly O'Sullivan. My grandmother, Honora (Nora) Downey was the youngest of 9 children. She was born in 1909. The names of some of her siblings are Julia, Bartholemew, John, Margaret, and Mary. A few of the girls came to the states via New York in the late 1920's and went to work for a well-to-do family in Pennsylvania before moving to Detroit, MI in the early 1930's. There, she married Francis O'Reilly from Co. Cavan, Ireland. They had 5 children.

I'd like to know if I have cousins still in Wales from Grandma's
other siblings. Any information is greatly appreciated.

I have the following information and trying to piece it together to see if this is correct: The 1850 census for Tallapoosa County, AL shows William (age 9) and John (age 11) Downey at the home of George Redin. George Washington Redin (1804 SC - 1853 Choctaw Co., AL) was married to Martha Goree-Downey in Aug. 1845. Martha Goree married a James Downey, on Sept. 23, 1835, (I beleive in Montgomery) also in Alabama Records Vol. 106, Autauga Co. Ala. Does this agree with anyone else's findings? This has been a 5 year brick wall for me. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Isabelle/Elizabeth Taylor Downey

I am seeking information regarding my great-great grandmother, Isabelle/Elizabeth/Eliza Taylor Downey.

I have very little information on her. Here is what I have:

She married Foster Downey in New Brunswick Canada. Foster was the son of Gilbert. Together Foster and Isabelle/Elizabeth/Eliza had four children: Gilbert, Isabelle, Roby/Robie, and John Frank Waldo. They all moved to Cambridge, MA after the death of Foster around 1883 in Kars Parish, Downeyville. He is buried in Belleisle Bay Orange Cemetery, New Brunswick, Canada.

Once they got to Massachusetts, I cannot trace Isabelle/Elizabeth/Eliza nor her daughter Isabelle. I can, however, trace Gilbert, Roby, and John.

Gilbert moved to the West Coast and worked as a carpenter in California and Washington. Roby married Howard Longmire of Nova Scotia (my great-grandparents) and John stayed in the Arlington, MA area to be near Roby.
My mother, Evelyn Christine Downey, was b. in 1917 in or near Kingsville, TX. Her father was Jack Downey; mother was Grace Margaret Carter. I can't find my mother's birth certificate or a marriage certificate for her parents. Maybe they were never married? Can someone please help me? The Carters, Grace and her parents John Quincy Carter and Elizabeth Carter, and her sister Leona Amanda "Josie" Carter Whitley were in Kingsville in 1916-1917, and probably belonged to a Baptist Church, as they were staunch Baptists (maybe Southern Baptists). Please help. I live in AZ and my mother died in 1975 before telling me what had happened to her father. Her mother remarried, to Roscoe Mills, and died in 1929 in AZ.

I am looking for information on Bernard James Downey or John J. Downey out of St. Louis, MO. Bernard is the Father, and John is the son. Bernard was married to Mary (maiden name possibly O'Brien) and they can be found on the 1900 & 1920 Census. In 1900, they lived on Pahin Street, and in 1920, they lived on Nashville Avenue. However, I cannot find them at all on the 1910 Census and cannot locate Bernard or Mary on the 1930 Census. On the 1920 Census, there is another child listed, Francis. His first name was Thomas, but he is listed only as Francis. John and Thomas can both be found on the 1930 Census with their families, however, I can't seem to find Bernard or Mary.

Also, I would like information about the 1910 Census and where Thomas Francis fits into it all. He was born in 1908.

I would love to have any information at all about this family. Any and all help would be appreciated. Thanks so much.

We have been taking photographs of the graves of the Indiana servicemen buried here and have been uniting them (at no charge) with their family members in Indiana and across the United States. To receive the photo of your family member, neighbor or friend all you need is a working email address. We do not send them to regular mailing addresses due to the costs. Please help us find the families of the men that might still be living. Our project is only successful because of teamwork and your contributions are noted on our website. If you wish to help us we will be pleased to add your name to our ACKNOWLEDGMENT page on the website. The obituaries usually did not appear till to three months after the death date.

If you are not a genealogist you can help by just picking up the telephone directory and find someone with the same last name and give them a call. It has worked many times for us.

Zenas5@yahoo.com

Sincerely,

Dave and Apple Dwiggins
San Pablo City, Philippines

Hi. My name is Kathleen Higgin. I am searching for any information about Thomas Downey. He died in the Whitby - Brooklin area on January 22, 1928 at the age of 87 years. His first wife was Ellen Hodges who died in 1902. His second wife was Mary Elizabeth Maw (nee Waring) (my great great grandmother). They must have married sometime between 1903 and 1911. Mary Elizabeth Maw (nee Waring) died on September 18, 1917. Both are buried at Groveside Cemetery in Brooklin, Ontario. Any bit of information if know would be very much appreciated. Thanks very much.

Kathleen Higgin

Looking for information on and descendents of Edward Downey and Ann Harkins married Sept 24, 1846 Peel County Canada West. Edward and Ann had at least one son Edward, born circa 1856. Witnesses to the marriage were John Harkins and Michael Downy (fathers or brothers to both?) Since Edward was born 10 years after the marriage there are more than likely siblings before him but I have not been able to find any information. Can anyone out there help me?

Abraham Downey, Jr. date of death

Abraham Downey, Jr., b. abt 1786 in Surry Co., NC is most often cited as having died Aug 20, 1835. I believe this is incorrect and may be the actual date of death for his father, Abraham Downey, died aft 1830, but have no original source of information to document this.

Here's why I suspect the commonly used date of Aug 20, 1835 for Abraham Downey, Jr.

1. His will is recorded 1855 Warren Co., KY (Bk 27 Pg 318).
Not consistent with date of death in 1835
2. He has daughters listed in the will with married names who were born in 1830 & 1831. Not possible in a will written bef 1835
3. The date Aug 20, 1835 id consistent with the date of death commonly used for his father, Abraham Downey who died aft 1830. If this information is taken from a grave stone without a birth date, perhaps the marker may be incorrectly assumed to be that of "Jr".

In the 1850 Simpson Co., KY census, (his widow) Martha is living next to Daniel (Jr.'s nephew) & Malinda (Evans) Morris Jr. If this is accurate, it would indicate "Jr." died at the latest, bef. 1850.

1836 Simpson Co., KY tax records show "Martha" with land on Gasper River. One could reasonably assume only Martha is shown because "Jr." is deceased. This confused the issue again because it would make "Jr.'s" death occur bef 1836.

The delimma is which data is wrong, date of death or the will and tax records. If anyone has original source information for gravestones (for Sr. & Jr.), copy of the will, tax records, etc., or can offer assistance, I would sincerely appreciate your help.

Thank you,
Jearl D.

I am looking for information about the Downey family in St. Louis on, before and after 1908. I believe I have traced my Grandfather's parents (which has been no easy deed) to the 1910 census. However, I am unsure. My Grandfather's name was Thomas Francis (Frances) Downey. He went by the name of Francis. He married Genevieve Gertrude Jewett.

His brother's name is possibly John. Father is listed as Bernard. Mother as Mary. Bernard and Mary both list their parents as being born in Ireland. I am desperately seeking some kind of verification that this would be my great grandparents. I can't seem to get past my grandfather.......any help would be appreciated, or any ideas of where to go from here.

Here again, I would have to hunt those records, but I just remembered I have the pages in my picture file.
I'll get back to you. Rosie
