1. JAMES M2 Drake (DAVID1) was born Abt. 1809 in Orange, North Carolina, and died February 07, 1874 in Ellejoy, Blount, Tennessee, USA. He married JANE SUSANNAH CHILDRESS in Caswell, NC, daughter of ABRAHAM CHILDERS and SUSANNA CHILDRESS. She was born Abt. 1809 in Halifax, Virginia, USA, and died July 10, 1875 in Eusebia, Blount, Tennessee,.

DRAKE - My great great grandfather was James Madison Drake, born in 1809 in Orange County, NC. In Caswell County, NC he married a Jane Susannah Childress, who was born in 1809 in Halifax County, VA. They started their family in Nash County, NC and later moved to Lee County, VA in 1840. The Childress family of VA moved to Knox County in the last ten years of the eighteenth century. In the 1850’s several of the James Drake children journeyed into Blount and Sevier Counties and began families. In the late 1860’s, James and Jane Drake moved to Ellejoy and were on the 1870 census as residents of Blount County along with their oldest son William Hines Drake and his wife, the former Elizabeth Davis. James died on 7 February 1874 and Jane died on 10 July 1875. William H.’s old residence was at Trundle’s Cross Road, just off the old Sevierville to Knoxville highway. Elizabeth Davis Drake died in 1890 and her passing was much lamented by her church which may have met at the Childress Academy. This data is from notes left by my uncle, James H. DRAKE before his passing. Now my problem. I cannot find any record of James and Jane Drake being buried in either of the three adjacent counties. I have the Blount County cemetery record, and the Sevier record was checked. So now where do I go? Because of the standing in the church of William H. DRAKE and Elizabeth Davis in this area, I can’t imagine letting his father and mother being buried in unmarked graves. Either James, or William H. gave the Eusebia Presbyterian Church land for their cemetery. Does anyone in the Historical Society have any ideas where James M. and Jane S. DRAKE are buried? Their first six children were born in Nash County, NC. The were the following:

Susannah J. Drake, born March 7, 1831.

Rebecca Drake, born 1834.

William Hines Drake, born Oct. 26, 1835. (**) (During the Civil War he used a horse team to haul salt from Saltville, VA to Blount County, TN for anyone who needed it regardless of their loyalty to either side. Most of the Bount County and east Tennessee were Northern sympathizers. William if anything was a rebel sympathizer and had to work very hard after the war to retain his right to vote).

Next to him is Ardith Drake born 22 Apr 1926 and died 01 Jun 1926. The marker only says 1926. Don't know who's child she is. Harry J. “Bob” Drake, age 75 of Bossier City, La., passed away at his home Mar. 30, 2007.
Harry was born Mar. 14, 1932, at Sargent. He married Barbara A. Dory Jan. 28, 1953, in Broken Bow.
He was a U.S. Air Force veteran and served in the Korean and Vietnam wars. His military career took him and his family worldwide to places such as Hawaii, France, Morocco, Thailand and Vietnam.
In his life he enjoyed his family, horses, shooting guns, traveling, gambling, and playing dice and cards.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara of Bossier City, La.; daughter, Mona of Hannibal, Mo.; son, Harry J. and daughter-in-law Wanda of Lincoln; daughter, Peg of Shreveport, La.; son, Justin and fiance, Ginger Ramsey of Bossier City, La.; nine grandchildren; and brothers, Vernon Carland and Duane “Red” Glenn.
He was preceded in death by one daughter, Hannah; parents, Harry E. Drake and Velma Glenn, and one sister, Verna Fahnestock.
At Harry’s request there will be no formal services; with cremation by Aulds Funeral Home in Shreveport, La., and burial at Moulton Cemetery in Almeria.
Memorials may be made to a cancer organization or hospice of your choice.

Following from a letter from Melvin CLARK to Marty Weeks:

John’s wife was named Nancy Jessie Drake, and she was known by her middle name. This picture was probably taken sometime after Jessie died, when John moved from Maxwell, to live with his daughter and family in North Platte.

I don’t know for sure when Jessie died, but think it was after World War II ended and before 1949.
