Hi George -

Thanks for the info. Since that post in 2001, I dug up more info on Charles Bulfinch and was able to locate and made contact with Maybelle and Charles's daughter, Shirley, who is still alive (at least as of a year or so ago). Her sister, Jeane Bulfinch is deceased and had married an Ed Kelley and then Virgil/Vergil? Bell.

Mike Smith

Thanks for your mention of Maybelle Draudt and Charles S. Bulfinch. The "S." I believe to be for his Mother's Maiden name "Saling", but can't prove it. Charles S. Bulfinch was born June 7, 1897 in Weston, Umatilla County, Oregon. I think he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps 06 June 1917 and was stationed at Mare Island, Solano County, California; then Naval Yard, San Diego, California; and then on to Iona Island, New York (where ever that is)it had to be close to where he would have met Maybelle?. The best I can find out is that Charles and Maybelle had two children Jean and Shirley born 1920-1925.

Re: Draut surname research in the United States

DRAUT is among the surname variations we include in the TROUT-DNA Research Project. Our site includes many search engines and links to research sites of possible interest. While none of our members currently use the DRAUT spelling of their surname, a number of us (including myself) have encountered the DRAUT variation in our lines in the 1700's. My line, for instance, was spelled TRAUT, TRAUDT, and DRAUT in various deeds and church records in the mid-late 1700's in York County, PA (Line #3 Paul TRAUT in our study.)

We invite you to use our website in your DRAUT research and would be interested in adding early DRAUT lines that you might recommend.

Our site can be found at:

Best regards,
Craig H.
Re: Draut surname research in the United States

Most of my information is family legend/legacy. I have only a little hard proof of the following data but perhaps this will help. At least this information appears to be new to this Draut message board.

Wilhelm Draut emigrated to the US in April, 1855 with his wife Katherina/e Kroll. I have a very official looking German document date 7 Apr 1855 but as I do not read/speak German I'm not exactly sure what it is or what other information it might contain. It does clearly show the surname as Draut. It references Hessen, Enzheim and Darmstadt and appears that he either was from Enzheim or left through/via Enzheim. It came to me through my grandparent's genealogy research from the 1960's, both of whom are dead now.

Wilhelm and Katherina/e had a daughter, Katherina/e who married Frederick Lichtenberger in Baden Baden, Germany. I am unsure of when Katherina/e and Frederick emigrated but they ended up in the New York City area.

I have just a very brief mention of another daughter to Wilhelm and Katherina/e named Sophie who appeared to have died as a a toddler around 1857-1859.

Wilhelm and Katherina/e had a son, Gustave, born in New York in 1864. Gustave and his descendents spelled his surname Drout, supposedly because there was a language barrier when Wilhelm and Katherina/e (who only spoke German) arrived in New York.

Family legend also has it that other brothers of Wihelm emigrated but took the spelling Draudt. I have yet to really develop much information on this line.

I have almost more holes than I have information. Any information you might have to fill in the holes would be much appreciated.

Thanks.

I am researching a Draut family from Bourscheid, Luxembourg, some of whom moved to Chicago early in the 1900s. Would like to share information, especially family connections in Luxembourg. One Corneille Draut married a Marie DuPont, also from Luxembourg, probably Eschweiler, daughter of Mathias Dupont.

"TROUT-DNA Research Project" up and running!

Serveral serious TROUT researchers have recently joined together to establish a "TROUT-DNA Research Project" to sort and/or connect the various early TROUT, TROUTT, TRAUT, TRAUDT, and DRAUT family lines in America, as well as hopefully confirm the various lines back to SW Germany and perhaps some lines to England.

>>If you think you may be interested, please visit our web page at:

http://www.familytreedna.com/public/TROUT%5FDNA%5FResearch%5...

>>If you have already studied project concept and would like to join now:

1. Go to http://www.familytreedna.com/surname_det.asp?Group=Trout&amp...

2. Fill out “Trout Project Join Request” and submit.

3. I will then send you a “Join Code” to use in receiving the reduced group rate when ordering your DNA test kit. This code will also then automatically associate your test with our research project.

4. Once you actually order your test kit, you then are automatically entered as a TROUT-DNA Research Project member.

(Based on the group rate we are now receiving from our source company, a 12-marker test is only $99 instead of the $159 charged for persons who are not members of a family research project.)

Or, if you prefer, contact me directly by email for more information.

CraigTrout@aol.com
David - we've communicated by email before. This msg is for anyone else who may be looking in. I'm collecting information on the Draut families especially in the Ohio, Kentucky, Indiana areas. I've copied lots of info off the Web and am pursuing other avenues.

Draut in America

Hello David,
quite the undertaking you have there. I can offer a couple of pieces to your puzzle:
Cornel Draut emmigrated from Eschweiler Wilz, Luxemburg around 1920. Lived in the greater Chicago
area and married Marie J. DuPont. They had one son, Leo J. Draut (1931-1999). He had three daughters
and two sons. If you are following mainly the Draut name, I can tell you that one son Richard C. Draut
(1957-) lives in CA, and the other son Donald J. Draut (1962-) now lives in Germany. Richard C. has one son
Patrick. I have no sons. I haven't taken the time (yet) to look into the earlier years in Luxemburg.
I do know that most of the Drauts here in Germany are concentrated up near the Benelux boarders.
Good luck on your endeaver. If I can be of
any further assistance let me know.

Draut surname research in the United States

I am putting together the family history of the Draut lines in the US and it looks like all of the Drauts come from either Germany or France in the early 1800's. I believe the US lines tie together in the Hessen area of Germany. Please contact me so I can include your line in the project. I hope to eventually publish the lines in book form for all the Drauts.
