There was an Elizabeth Drayton of Taunton who achieved some notoriety for giving birth at 10 years old in 1858. Not sure if she is related, but if she was 31 at the time of marriage, the chances are good. There is more information on Elizabeth Drayton at http://books.google.com/books?id=h2EsAAAAYAAJ&pg=PA49&am...

Hello,

My name is Ashley Rudolph and I have Draytons in my family. I was also told that all Draytons were practically related.

I have tried to jog my grandmother's (Ruby Duncan) memory. The only thing she can remember is that her brother' sister ((Myrtice or Merdis Hays) married a man named Ivory Drayton. They had children Jean or Gean Drayton and Peter Drayton. Peter may married an Annie Drayton. If this helps, please let me know.

My name is Porsha Drayton. My last name originates from my father, Edward Drayton. I don't have much information about his side of the family because he left us when i was seven and i have no contact with him. i do know that he was born on sullivan's island in South Carolina. i dont know whether they were from the west indies or not but it could be possible that they sailed here and ended up on an island and that island happened to be sullivan's island. i hope that i somewhat helped you. if not, im sorry and i wish you luck in your future discoveries.

You might consider getting in touch with Toni Carrier, director of www.lowcountryafricana.net. She has extensive records of Draytons in the Lowcountry - including descendants of those who worked on the Drayton plantations. I have records of 54 African American Draytons who served in the United States Colored Troops in the Civil War. Angela Walton-Raji is based in Washington DC and being an experienced genealogist, she has access to records at the National Archives, including Civil War Pension files which show an amazing amount of information on an individual and others in his family and acquaintance. Please get in touch.

I have a relative James Drayton Colwell that I cannot find parental information on. I would almost be willing to bet that his middle name was a surname of his mother. He ended up in Arkansas in 1880's. If you have any Drayton/Colwell connections from South Carolina, please let me know.
Looking for any information on mulatto Amarintha Drayton. Daniel D. McAlpin lists her as his mother in the Freedman's records and father as William (McAlpin?). In 1870 she is living in the household of Madeam Sophie E. McAlpin. She died in 1871 and was a cook. I think all were born in or near Savannah. The McAlpin's taking the surname from Scotsman Henry McAlpin of the Hermitage plantation. Henry also lived in Charleston.
Greetings,

I am assisting my wife with some research on the Drayton South Carolina / Arkansas Connection. Does anyone recall hearing stories of family memebers moving to Arkansas around the late 1890s or early 1900s? Rance Drayton shows up in Arkansas on the 1930 census reports and she can document the family history from Rance while in Arkansas but not before that time.

Other name connected with Rance are Rose Lee Bonner which was his wife and Rose Lee Bonner parents are Dan Bonner and Frances Smith.

Also, if you know of any Draytons in Arkansas - no matter where you are - I'm sure my wife would like to hear your story no matter how small the detail. As a side note, my mom did not know anything about her family but she knew that an "e" was dropped from her name going from Goode to Good. That one piece of information help me go back to 1807. Again, any stories or any information dealing with Rance,Arkansas or any other Drayton inforamtion will be helpful making the connection to SC and then moving forward with her search.

Thank You,
Rod Wafer
Wafer by Birth -Drayton in Spirit

Our grandfather's name in Christopher Drayton and he married Edna Sherwood......correct me or add where necessary.

I am looking for some clues on my ancestry. I am looking for a Husband and Wife Drayton that lived in South Carolina but were originally from Ireland. They would have left out of South Carolina somewhere around 1811 or 1812 with a wagon train. The headmaster of the train's last name would have been Dean. Sometime during the travel an epidemic of yellow fever or typhoid would have broken out and the Drayton parents would have died but their infant son Charles Drayton lived. He was informally adopted by the Headmaster Dean. The first acount I can find of Charles Drayton (Dean) is in 1850 in Alabama. Please help!

I'm not sure of the meaning. I do not have any other documents. His social security # did not turn up anything but with today's technology, I can try again. He lived in Brooklyn, NY and not sure when he arrived but my mother knew him in the 1930's. He did service in the National Guard during WWII. He died in Brooklyn circa 1966. Can there be any connection?

Was Catharine Lovett (b. c 1445 Astwell, Northamptonshire, England) the dtr. of Thomas Lovett and Anne de Drayton? Their dtr. Catharine m. Giles Poulton whose dtr. m. Euseby Isham. Our family also descends from Catharine de Drayton m. Sir Henry Greene (1310-1370). This line descends to Isham and Vere.
The Isham connects to the Randolphs of Virginia.
Can anyone confirm the parents of Catharine Lovett? If her mother IS Anne de Drayton...this is the same line as that of Catharine de Drayton.
Any information would be appreciated.
For more info on these lines-go to my website: pixleyblair.tribalpages.com
