Hi,
I am looking for anyone who has information or connections to Curt/Kurt O. Drechsel, born August 22, 1901. He immigrated to Columbus in the early 1920's. His brother Richard Otto Drechsel had immigrated a few years eariler & listed a Max Pestel as his Uncle in Columbus, Ohio. Any information would be greatly appreciated!!
It's Kim again, I think I figured out who your "branch' is. my pc is down, so I have no access to familytreemaker. i think you're branch originated in Penn., and ended up in either WV or Va. I would be very interested in comparing info. I sent to Germany for records of the Drechsel's. I have some interesting info, that i would be willing to share. please email me at frugalmom1@juno.com kim

Hi, Thanks for your email. I don't know if you're in the same Drexel(Drechsel) line as I am. Ludwig Theodor Drechsel and his wife, Maria Agnes Heinze Drechsel came from Germany to Penn., USA about 1857 - Maria and the children came in 1857, I don't know when Theodor came. They came from the Goerlitz area of Saxony. I hope you do tie in, I haven;t had much success finding others in this tree. Maria came with Ludwig Herman and a daughter, Maria. Several more children were born in Penn. Apparently, the name was changed in the US.

I know you posted this five years ago, but I'm just now getting into the genealogy game. Hopefully you'll get a notification about my reply, but you've probably figured out the answer by now.

I'm also a great-great-grand-descendant of LT Drexel. From what I've heard through other family members, his father Theodore came over from Dresden where his name was spelled either Drechsel or Dreschel (it's spelled both ways multiple times in the family bible, which my grandmother is in possession of).

If you're interested, I wouldn't mind sharing my tree with you. I actually have a photo of him and his wife, Jennie Perrien Harris, which you might be interested in.

I've been trying to fill in information of his current living descendants, so I'd love to hear from you on any of that. Feel free to message me directly and we can get this ball rolling!

Hi,I'm from Ohio also, but my Drechsel's(Drexel's) came from Germany and settled in Schuylkill co, Penn in the 1850's. There seem to be so few Drechsel's, I'm wondering if yours are connected. I recently found that my Drechsel's came from the country of Prussia and the town of Goerlitz. Have you found any more info on your Drechsel's yet. By the way, mine seemed to have changed to Drexel when they came to the states. Please reply

Photo was taken in Duluth, MN, and she is wearing a fancy dress, hat and muff.

I found Martha with her family in the 1900 census for Otter Tail Co., MN, and in 1910, in the Spokane, WA census, with parents Charles and Sidonia Drechsel. 1900 census shows her date of birth November, 1898.

Get back to me at margerice@prodigy.net if you are related to Martha Drechsel.

Hello Everyone. This is a tough one: I am trying to determine the parents of my ancestor, Christopher Hager. He was born in MD circa 1797, and showed up in Coshocton OH in 1830, then moved twice to Rich. county and I think Morrow. His wife was Rachel, born 1798, also in MD. 3 of their children were Charles, William, and daughter Mazy, (married Henry B. Slaughter) but there were more. Can anyone help? Thanks!

Steve,
the information you have about the name Drechsel was very interesting, because my brother and I work in carpentry and building construction. I also work as a home inspector, others in my family the "Drechsels" have chosen mechanical fields to work in.
The earliest known Drechsel my family has traced back is Conrad Drechsel born in Germany in the 1820s, it is unknown when he immmigrated to USA, but he lived in Dubois Co., IN married a Maggie Hemmeilin who was also born in Germany around the 1830s.

Would you have any information about Conrad or Maggie's descendants, how about records of immigration on the Germans that immigrated around the mid-1800s.
Rich

Rita-
My maternal grandparents are Drechsels. They came from a little east of Bavaria, in Saxony, principally from the little towns of Drebach (also Drehbach), Venusberg, and Griessbach. The closest town of any size is Zschopau, with Chemnitz a little ways away. All Drechsels may not be related, since the name means "wood turner", or someone who operated a Drehmachine (wood lathe). Other variations are Drechsler, Traxler, and the Anglicized Drexel. I have my information available on GEDCOM, I will be happy to share it with you. Just e-mail me: Steve Smith ssmithfam@deseretonline.com

Regards,

Steve
