James Drummond & Janet Begg Scotland to Ontario, Michigan, Illinois, & Wisconsin

My GG Grandmother was Helen/Ellen Drummond who married Matthew Todd and had children in Scotland. In the 1850's they emigrated to Fergus, Ontario.

I found her Brother and family apparently emigrated about the same time. This was James Drummond, his wife Janet Begg and children. They did have a child, Stewart Drummond, about 1855 in Toronto. James Drummond (& Sons James & Alexander) were tinsmiths and moved around some. I think James may have been in Michigan in 1860, Illinois in 1870, and died in Wisconsin in 1890. I have found marriages and information for some of the children.

I know a Son, James, a tinsmith, had been in Michigan, in Texas and Kansas. Another Son, Alexander Drummond settled in Evanston, Illinois where he was a tinsmith and hardware merchant. Alexander died in 1916 in Evanston, Illinois.

Would be interested in connecting with descendents for these Drummond's.

Alexander Drummond & Helen/Ellen Anderson in London, Middlesex, Ontario

I'm hoping to connect with descendents of Helen/Ellen Anderson and Alexander Drummond. They married in 1850 in Scotland, and I think went to Ontario about 1853. Alexander was a tinsmith, and the family moved around. They were in Michigan in 1860, and by 1881 settled in London, Middlesex, Ontario where Alexander died in 1907, and Helen/Ellen died in 1913. They had a daughter in Scotland several other children in Ontario and/or US, and at least one child in Fergus, Ontario. I believe my GG Grandmother was related to Helen, and they lived in Fergus. Would be interesting to compare notes with family of Alexander and Helen/Ellen.

I have other Drummond's I'm interested in, but will start a separate thread for them.

Hi all

looking for any possible information on Elizabeth Drummond and family born 8.4.1787 Comrie, Perthshire, Scotland.

She married Duncan McGregor 22.1.1804 or thereabouts and they had the following children - Malcolm 1808, Isabel 1810, Peter 1813, James 1815, Duncan 1819.

I'd be quite interested to find out why there is a Drummond street in Comrie, and what the connection is with my Elizabeth, if anyone knows....

You are correct, Malonzo Drummond was born as Alonzo, a common family name which is believed to stem from a period of exile in Spain. He changed his name to Malonzo to have the same initials as his wife, MJD, supposedly so they could both endorse each other's checks.

I am a direct descendant of William LEWIS, the immigrant camera maker, who was May Jane's father.

I have a large file of descendats of William LEWIS, including Mary Jane's line of DRUMMONDS. I also have a lot of information on the family businesses. I am willing to share. Please contact me

John Drummond married Margaret Greig in 1789 in Brechin, Scotland. Am looking for information regarding their offspring, and/or their ancestors. Have no parents' names for either of them, but do know that Margaret's father died before they married. I have children's names and birth dates but no documentation. A son, Robert, and another Robert, and their families went from Scotland to Canada about 1849. If you are researching these, my ancestors, would appreciate hearing from you. Jo

Mark G (Greene) Drummond was my great (grand) Uncle. My mother remembers him! He was not disowned (or do you have info about that?)

He served our country, and was stationed in the Philippines where he met and fell in love with a Philippino woman named Magdalena. They wed and had a daughter named Jiniaad Bernice Drummond (I have a family photo of her).

Tragically, Magdalena was killed when a US soldier saw her on foot walking with groceries and gave her a lift. The jeep flipped over and she was killed.

Mark went back to live near Drummond relatives in Coalinger California. I do not know if he died in California or Philippines. I have been trying to find out what happened to Jiniaad but have no knowledge yet.

Of interest is the fact that Mark was rounded up and captured in the Philippines and detained for months as a POW. However, he was held in a library! He told my mother that he got a lot of reading done!

I have never known a single Drummond to have had an ounce of meanness or prejudice. They were kind, smart, and have an unbelievable military history dating back to Captain Wm T Drummond (my GG grandpa) who served in the civil war, was also a POW (and made an escape!).

Let me know if you need more info. I would love to hear what you know, and if you have any family Drummond photos?

I know John Drummond m. Katherine Love 10 Dec 1791 in St Andrew's Parish in Brunswick Co. I haven't found a birth date or parents for him. I suspect he is related to Grieve Drummond, b. Feb 1777 in Grangepans, West Lothian, Scotland, perhaps a brother or cousin. Grieve m. Elizabeth Starke 16 Jan 1823 in Lawrenceville, Brunswick Co.. Grieve had a brother John C. b. 16 Jan in Carriden, West Lothian.

Anything you could add would be nost helpful. I have an up dated file on the Drummond clan if you wish.

I am researching the family of John Drummond of Brunswick, VA,. His son James, b. 1799 went to GA where he m. Elizabeth Green Davenport in Morgan Co. and then relocated to Jackson Co.FL. Much of the family relocated to TX.

Captain William THOMSON Drummond (1834, Greene County Ohio) was son of Samuel Drummond (1804-Yellow Springs,Greene County Ohio) and Ruth Beeth. Samuel was son of George Drummond (1775- Scotland) and Rosanna Thomson (1768-Donegal, Ireland). That is where Captain William THOMSON Drummond got his middle name (from his Grandma).
George's (1775) parents were Alexander Drummond and Christian Mackie. George was born in Old Meldrum, Anerdeensire, Scotland, and died in Ohio in 1828.
I am a direct descendent. Captain Wm T Drummond was my great great grandfather. Let me know if you want further info. Robin

There is a family tree (several actually) that have Janet Gordon (11 Oct 1801 - 18 Sept 1857) married to Alexander Drummond (b. circa 1801)

Her parents were John Gordon and Jean Petery.I was looking for a Charles Gordon and he has the same parents (perhaps or perhaps not)

Andrew Drummond, Glasgow 1800s, poems and hymns

I have a small, expensively made, book, Poems and Hymns on Moral and Gospal Themes, published in Glasgow, 1891 by Begg, Kennedy & Harper. The Author, Andrew Drummond, inscribed a copy to my great-grandmother, Louisa Drummond.
Louisa had married in 1856 and came to Michigan USA by 1858.

A photo of the author is pasted onto a page, which seems to be included for that purpose. He has white hair and beard, and appears to be fairly elderly, perhaps 60s or 70s.

The book is dedicated to the late James Gourlay, Esq, a Magistrate of Glasgow. I believe he is the banker 1804-1872.
Rev. Hugh MacMillan, 1833-1903 minister of Free St. Peter's Glasgow wrote the introduction. Both would have been close associates of Andrew at some point.
A poem in the book mentions the author's daughter Jessie.

My interest is in finding if there is a family relationship
between Andrew and my ggg-grandfather, and dead end, John Drummond, who was born in Lanark around 1806. He was a tailor in London by the late-1820s. Louisa was his eldest child of 14, daughter of John and Louisa Custance.

Can anyone connect Andrew Drummond to my John Drummond.
I suspect John had a second wife, Mary Peach, and more chldren.
Children's names I have are: Louisa, Alfred George, Mary, Grace Ruth, Lizzie and Walter Scott.

Was it common c.1850 to name your child after the local lord / MP ?

My GGrandfather and his brother both have unknown fathers. However, my GGrandfather, (John Adolphus Drummond) and his brother, (Frederick Charles Drummond) seem to have been named after Lord Adolphus Frederick Charles William Vane-Tempest who was the local MP for that area.

Hoping someone can shed some light on this

Hi Grant. I have no other information in the British Isles on Joseph (MacGregor) Drummond other than his birth in 1803 in Muthill except for a passing mention of him in Northern Ireland. He emigrated from Northern Ireland around 1845. He is my husband's immigrant ancestor and he settled in Rhode Island in New England.

I was hoping someone out there might have information.

What I have is a Joseph MacGregor/Drummond b. 17 Dec 1805 to John MacGregor/Drummond b. 11 Apr 1764 and Elizabeth Gardiner b. 8 Aug 1761. All born Muthill. I also have all of Joseph's siblings if this is the right Joseph??? I have nothing further on Joseph though.

FOSTER, Judy Dianne (Drummond) age 67, of New Carlisle, Ohio, passed away on July 26, 2011.

Judy was born in Hillsboro, Ohio to the late Charles and June (Judy) Drummond.
She graduated in 1962 from McClain High School in Greenfield, Ohio and in 1966 from The Ohio State University where she received a degree in music.
Judy is best remembered for her patience, her love of music and singing.
Judy will be deeply missed by her husband, Rev. Stephen J. Foster of 45 years of marriage together; her loving children, son Mark S. Foster, (his wife, Tammy) of Granville, Ohio and daughter Julie K. Foster of Powell, Ohio; her grandchildren, Grant, Evan, and Reed Foster. Also surviving is her sister, Charlene (Drummond) Massey (her husband, Frank) of Dayton, Ohio; Stephen's family including his mother, Mary E. Foster, whom Judy called "Mom"; John (Bev) Foster, and David (Lorraine) Foster; and many other friends and family.

A gathering of family and friends will be held from 5-8 p.m. Thursday in the LITTLETON & RUE FUNERAL HOME.

Judy's funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday in Zion Lutheran Church with Rev. Suzanne Dillahunt, assistant to the Bishop and Rev. Peter Kruse officiating.
Burial will be in Ferncliff Cemetery, Springfield, Ohio.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Zion Lutheran Church, 1500 Broadway St., Springfield, OH 45504 or First Lutheran Church, 116 E. Main St., Donnelsville, OH 45319. You may express condolences to the family at www.littletonandrue.com

I have a photo of Simpson and Allie Drummond, appears to be during the 1920's, and they may have lived in either Illinois or Tennessee. I checked the Scottish records, and there are 50 recorded
marriages between Drummond and Wilson in the period 1855 to 1920. Your grandfather's middle name is perhaps more likely to link to one of these than to the c1815 marriage of my wife's ancestors. But one never knows.

John Drummond born 1754 Kinross; he married Margaret Paterson. His sons were Henry born Kinross 1777, William born 1781 Kinross and daughters Mary born 1779 and Elizabeth born 1784 in Kinross.
Mary married John Bruce in Markinch 1802 and died Dysart 1847. Elizabeth married James Cook and died Star,Kennoway 1864.

John & Marjory emmigrated to New Zealand arriving 1855 at Nelson. Peter remained in Scotland along with his brother John b.1830 and sister Margaret b.1833.
