Thanks,
Arthur Drury and Rosa Guilkey are probably buried in Hamilton or Marion county some where. Rosa remarried so she survived two husbands. Arthur who died 1905, and George Billhymer who died 1918. Without access to Indiana death certificates or burials they cannot be documented.

Thanks,

The 1918 epidemic could be the answer. It could have taken the whole family. It could have affected the burials and the locations. Arthur Drury however died in 1905. George Billhymer died, age 36, 1918, and Rosa and family should be where he is, but where?

The death at Noblesville, Indiana, in October 1918 makes me wonder if this man's death was a result of the influenza epidemic that year.

My Drury line has a James Arthur Drury married to a Rosa Guilkey March 8, 1892, Nobelsville, Indiana. They had children Corinna born, Dec 1892, Ruby born, Feb 1895 and Vern born Dec 1897. They are listed in the 1900 Hamilton County census. Then disappear. I suspect a second marriage of Rosa. Indiana marriage index list a Rose Ella Guilkey, born Nov 14, 1878, father Samuel, mother Olive France. Groom, George Edward Billhymer of Nobelsville Indiana. They married Jan 7, 1907. James Arthur Drury died in 1905. 1910 Marion County census list a Edward and Rose Billhymer with children Unknown Billhymer, Jerreld, and Kathryn Billhymer. Then no trace of this family. The only clue is the Indiana death index which states George E. Billhymer death in Nobelsville, Indiana on Oct 9, 1918. Do you have any information what happened to Rosa and family of James Arthur Drury or Rosa and family of George Billhymer. I have yet to find a death for any or a cemetery. Thanks, Marshall Drury

Re: Mrs M. C. Drury of London alive in 1829

Re the message I posted on the 4th Sept 2010 3:39pm -
I have discovered more information about Mrs M.C. Drury who in 1829 lived in The Strand, London.

Mrs Drury's full name was Margaretta Charlotte the widow of William Drury, his will was proved in 1818 Jan 13th.
Mrs Drury's will was proved 1836 May 5th. At the time of her death she was living at 9, Upper Charles Street, Northampton Square, Middlesex.

William Drury was a goldsmith and they also made swords. The work address was 32 The Strand London. Their sons William and George also went into the family business.

Their trading history possibly started in 1770 by Dru Drury on the corner of Villers Street, Strand. Dru Drury died the 15th Jan 1803.
Thank you, Jill

John - a long shot hoping you will be able to read this after so long! Do you know where John Henry Drury's ancestors came from - and the Sizer family? My g. grandfather was (Charles) Sizer Drury, a house decorator, in Hull, Yorkshire. A prominent building firm in Hull at the time was Sizer's. I have not managed to track the name Sizer to a maternal relative, although it occurs as his cousin's name also. My g grandfather came from Norfolk and travelled to Hull in the 1860's to find work - it was an agricultural depression. Hoping for a reply,

Diana

Karen,

The 1880 NY Census has an 18 year old Leonard Drury working as a farm laborer in Rutland, Jefferson Co, NY at the Crouch family residence. His birthplace is listed as Canada as are his parents.

There is a marriage record for 19JUN1897 in Frontenac, Kingston, Ont for 36 year old Leonard Drury, son of William Drury and Orphie Pearson, to 19 year old Emily Hurst, daughter of William Hurst and Jane Lee.

The 1871 Canadian Census has William Drury 43 with Orpha Drury 35, William 14, Frederick 13, Mary 11, Leonard 9, Ann 7, and Harriett 4 in Rideau Ward, Kingston, ONT. William is listed as born ONT 1828 of Irish origin and his wife as born in England.

The 1881 Canadian Census has William 24 with wife Mary 24, father William 53, Leonard 17, and Hattie 14.

The 1891 Canadian census has Orphie from England with son Leonard 28 (farm laborer) and Lulu 14.

The 1911 Canadian census has Orpha 74, son Leonard 40, and grandaughter Lottie Billups, 35. (Obviously Leonard's age is wrong as he was 48, and Lulu has become Lottie.)

Orpha died 18MAR1918 in Frontenac.

In a Billups family tree, William Sr. (Leonard's father) is listed as married to Orphie Pearson, dau of Leonard Pearson and Elizabeth Goldsworth. William (died 1888) is son of John Henry Drury (1808-)and Eliza. John Henry's parents are listed as George and Alice with George born 1762 Huntingdonshire, ENG and died Great Grandsen, Huntingdon. John Henry was born in Great Grandsen. (Don't know where the irish origin recorded in 1871 comes from.)

Hope this helps.

Michael Drury (this is not my line)

FYI, Elizabeth Heysham was the daughter of James and Elizabeth Heysham. James Heysham married Elizabeth Dobney on 26 April 1816 at Christ Church Greyfriars Newgate, London.

"James Heysham of this Parish Bachelor & Elizabeth Dobney of the Same Parish Spinster were married in this Church by Banns the Twenty Sixth Day of April in the Year One Thousand Eight Hundred and Sixteen" - from "London, England, Marriage and Banns, 1754-1921"

This couple had a child, Elizabeth, who was baptized on 8 September 1816 [5 months after her parents wedding]. James Heysham's occupation was given as Cooper. Elizabeth Heysham married Daniel Drury on 3 November 1833 in St. Giles, Camberwell, Southwark, Surrey. It's fairly clear this was Elizabeth Dobney's daughter because one of the witnesses was Mary Ann Dobney, perhaps her aunt.

Henry Drury, carpenter, London, 1639

I recently came across this reference in the "Calender of State Papers, Domestic Series, in the reign of Charles I, 1639-1640."

Mar 19. Warrant of the Commissioners for Saltpetre and Gunpowder to Robert Smith, to bring before them Henry Drury, carpenter, living at the Hermitage Dock in Saint Catherine's, and Robert Chesland, wine cooper, owner of the said dock, living in Rood's Lane.

The question is whether this Henry Drury is our Hugh Drury, who was a carpenter in Sudbury, MA in 1640. I believe that Hugh is the same as George Drury who came in 1635 on the Abigail. However, this could be George's brother or Hugh's father. Hugh does not appear on any records before 1640.

Any information about this Henry or Robert Chesland is very important in trying to track down how George/Hugh crossed to America. Hermitage Dock is in the Stepney area that I have long suspected Hugh came from. It was a common location for carpenters who worked on ships.

Michael Drury

I have solid information that Frank was not Amasa's son. I show that Almina remaried sometime between 1850 and 1860, to a (James)Slater. I am not sure of his first name. The 1860 US Census has Almina listed as a Slater, listed as a widow. She has 3 children living with her, Sarah and George Drury and Frank Slater. The 1870 census lists her as a Drury again, and list Frank as the same. I think this may have been an error, as the 1880 census has Frank listed as a Slater again.

I also found another Annie Gaughan for 6/10/1886 arrival in PA on the Lord Gough. And I am not experienced enough to know which one I should go with. You asked about her parents. The names listed on the death certificate are Philip Goughnan or Goughran hard to read and mothers name is Margaret Reilly. Both birthplaces for them is Ireland. I didn't see either with our Annie/Anna. So, with your experience what are your thoughts on which one to go with S.S. Ohio or the S.S. Lord Gough?

Thanks again!
Michele
I'd enter her info as follows:

Birth: between Jan 1865 and 15 Jul 1875 and then show all three sources

Arrival date: Between 1880 and 1890 and then show the the 1900 and 1910 census as sources.

Marriage date: 1891 and show both sources

Now- about the arrival date...
I've listed a link to a passenger list below. Everything pretty well matches what we know except that it doesn't list an age. This could be your Anna

http://search.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/sse.dll?rank=1&new=1&...
Hi Andy!

Thanks so much for posting. I have to say right off, this is new ground. No one has done anything/research/family tree on my mothers side/her mother side of the family. There is nothing out there on Ancestry. No links no nothing. Which is ok. I just have to be super careful and want to make sure I get this right and being new to this I am not sure on how to do/look for things. I know zero about Anna/Annie. Family lore from my Nana, she said that the day she came over from Ireland, is the same day she married. Well, that doesn't tell me much. I can guess about a lot of stuff. Her first child Michael was born in 1891 here in Philadelphia, PA. So I know I have to work backwards. And all I know is really what I posted before about census stuff. I sent off for her marriage certificate hoping for more info. On her marriage info from the Philadelphia Oprhans Court her name is Annie Geuoghran. That really is all I know. So, which dates do you go by on this census? And then on immgr? If lore is true she landed in PA. If not it could be anywhere. How do you know you have the right person for sure? Sorry if I am asking a lot of questions! Thanks so much for answering!

Hi Michele

The golden rule is that you only put a specific date in your family tree if you have independent, primary source documentation. For a birth, this would be a birth certificate or a baptism register with the date of birth recorded. For an immigration, you would need to see the immigration papers.

For events where this documentation is lacking, you should enter "c1880" (or whatever format your FH software uses) or "between 1865 and 1868" etc. Your source citations and notes will explain the discrepancy.

Hope this helps

Caroline

HI,
I need some help here. New to this and well struggling a bit. I am working on finding the immgr. papers for my gg grandmother who came to this country from Ireland. So, I have three different dates of birth for her here are the details:

Anna Drury, Philadelphia, PA, husband James
1) 1910 census says 42 yrs old would make her yr of birth 1868, and immgr. is listed as 1890 on this one
2)1900 census says yr born 1865 and immgr. yr 1880 (llooked like 1890 and changed)# of yrs in US 20. So going with 1880 here.
3) death certificate says date of birth July 15th, 1875 died 10-4-1917

So, which date of birth do you go by, and which date for immgr? How best do I search for her? Her madien name on the marriage certificate is Annie Geuoghran. What comes up is Gaughan.

Much Much Thanks for any and all help.
Michele

Hello

My name is Brian Drury... My dad is from Frechpark as well... He was born in 1930. He had 2 other brothers Bartley and Francis. He was the son of Michael Drury and Winifred Forde.

I am wondering Mary Josphine was related to my Grandfather Michael... Do you have any more info you could share?
