My apologies as I realize this post is more than 2 years old, but I have recently started researching my husband's genealogy. My husband is the great great grandson of Joshua Duble and Sarah Phifer. Not sure if I understand the ramifications of your post. If Joshua's mother's name was Amy Duble, and she is the daughter of Micahel Duble SR, does that mean that she was not married at the time of Joshua's birth? is that why the father's name is blank?

Joshua Duble, born 5 MAY 1802 in Burlington County, NJ, died 19 NOV 1894 in Camden County, NJ, was not a son of Michael Duble Sr. This was confirmed by Y-DNA testing.
Joshua's death record stated that his mother was Amy Duble (daughter of Michael Duble Sr.), but his father's name was left blank. The only known marriage for Amy Duble took place in 1810 in Gloucester County, NJ, when she married Joshua Eldridge.

Michael Duble Sr. married 1767 in Burlington Co., NJ, Y-DNA test

So far, two male descendants of Michael Duble Sr. with the surname Duble (or variant, like Dubell) have done Y-DNA testing. One is a descendant of John Duble and one is a descendant of Michael Duble Jr., both sons of Michael Duble Sr. We still need at least one descendant each of James and Joshua Duble to test, the other two sons of Michael Duble Sr. Please contact me if you are possibly interested in testing. Y-DNA testing helps to verify one's paper trail documentation. Also, hopefully, eventually, we will match up with someone still living in Michael Duble Sr.'s homeland, Germany (see last paragraph).
I will be happy to discuss the Y-DNA results with any cousin who is interested. Also, even if you are not a descendant of the above Michael Duble Sr., but you are a male and have the same last name or a variant, like Dubell, Dubel, Deubel, Tuble, Teubel, etc., don't hesitate to get in touch with me about the possibility of doing Y-DNA testing. Who knows, we may end up having a more distant common ancestor?
Last, I recently located Rachel Duble Cramer, daughter of Michael Duble Sr., in the the 1880 federal census. She was a young 91 years old then, and it was recorded in this census that Rachel was born in NJ, her mom (this would be Martha Clutch) was born in NJ, and her dad (this would be Michael Duble Sr.) was born in GERMANY. This is the first solid evidence I have found of Michael's origin.
Frank Dawes, fldawes13@verizon.net

I have just found out that William Duble is buried in the Promise City cemetery, instead of the Rush Cemetery. I have obtained his funeral home record from the Wolf Funeral Home (now Randolph Funeral Home) in Corydon, Iowa. It states on there that he is buried in the Promise City Cemetery, although he is not listed in the Promise City cemetery burial records. His death date is recorded as June 22, 1915. If anyone has further information, it would be greatly appreciated.

Susan,

Thanks so much for the information! I think I have found where William is buried, but not positive about it. I visited the Wayne County genealogical library in Corydon recently and they told me that if William died while at the county home, it's more than likely that he's buried in Rush Cemetery, just west of Corydon, since that's where many of the county home residents were buried. But, they also told me that the problem is, that many of those graves are not marked. And, finding proof of the burials will be difficult.

And, I am also looking for any information of William's son Charles. Charles married Ida Mae Cox, a sister of my grandfather, Fred Cox. Nancy Jane Coffman Cox Duble was living with Fred when she died in 1931. She is buried in New York Cemtery.

What is your connection to the Duble family? You may contact me privately at: brcox1950@mchsi.com

I would love to have any information you may have on the Duble's. And, I would love to share anything I have on the Duble's with you, as well.

Hi Bonnie - It's been awhile since I last wrote to the board. Don't do much research these days but thought I would pass on some info I found some time ago about Nancy and William. I've narrowed William's death date to between 1915 and 1920 and I'm guessing Iowa. In 1915 - William is living in a county home in Benton twp., Wayne Co., IA; Nancy is living in Union twp., Wayne Co., IA. And here's something very interesting: William states he's widowed and Nancy states she's divorced. This information comes from the Iowa State Census Collection 1836-1925. In 1920 IA Census - Nancy is living with her brother, William Coffman, in Union twp. and she states she is widowed. In 1925 and 1930, she's living with son, Fred Cox, in Wright twp., Wayne Co., IA. Nancy died in 1931 at Millerton, Wayne Co., IA and buried in New York Cem, Union twp., Wayne Co., IA. I haven't a clue as to where William is buried - maybe in the New York Cem? He might be buried where his 1st wife Elizabeth Lasley Duble is: Promise City Cem - South Fork twp., Wayne Co., IA. I hope this information is helpful to you.
Sincerely, Susan

According to my family history there were 3 DuBell brothers (2 changed to Duble on emmigration) that came from Alsace-Lorraine in France/Germany sometime before 1800.

The earliest Duble I have found so far is James Duble, wife Hannah from the Cedarbook section of Atco, NJ. James born 1825, Hannah born 1827. James was a farmer. He is my great-great-great grandfather.

Children were Simeon, Elwood, William, Lucy, Edward, Florence, and Mary Medora.

Email me back to share info if you think this info matches what you have.

Best regards,

Karen Duble Stover

Hi Deanna,

We must be relatives somehow. I have a bit of info for you on Ida Duble. She was the sister to my great grandfather, James Ripley Duble. Their siblings were Emma, Lawrence, Mary, Roscoe, and Albert. They are from the Cedarbrook section of Atco, NJ in Camden County. I believe she was born there.

Ida's parents are William Lippincott Duble and Mary Linck (or possibly Miller)
Wm was born in 1849 and died in 1926. He was a carpenter. his siblings were Simeon, Elwood, Lucy, Edward, Florence, and Mary Medora.

Mary was born in 1850 and died in 1911. They are buried in the Atco Cemetery in Atco, NJ. They are the first Dubles buried there.

They are listed in the 1910 Census for Camden County, NJ.

William's parents are James and Hannah Duble of Hamilton Twp, Atlantic Co, NJ in 1860 and Berlin, Waterford Twp, Camden Co, NJ as of 1870. This info is from the census records of 1860 and 70.

James was a farmer.

I am still trying to go further back but online records for New Jersey are elusive. I live near Camden Co, NJ so I plan to go to the historical society for more info. Email me privately so we can keep each other posted of further developments on the tree.

My family tradition speaks of 3 brothers named DuBell who emigrated from Alsace-Lorraine in France/Germany. The story goes that 2 of the brothers changed name to Duble at this time. I have yet to proove this yet and don't know when this took place.

Happy hunting,

Karen Stover

Hi Karen, I live in Bridgeton, New Jersey which is only about a half hour from Williamstown. My in-laws live in Williamstown. I basically grew up in Franklinville, so I'm pretty familiar with the general area if you'd like me to check out something for you. Take care, Sarah

Hi Gloria, I don't know how much help I can be to you. I didn't grow up in Bridgeton. I just happened to end up in an area that alot of my ancestors lived in. Karen and my connection goes way back to my Great-great grandmothers aunt.
However, if you want to supply names and birth dates I'll find out what I can. Also, I do have access to the Bridgeton, Salem and Millville phone books which could be helpful. Let me know what you're looking for, and we'll see what we can find. Sincerely, Sarah

Re: Ann Duble,Rebecca Rockhill

I don't know Ann's maiden name, but she was married to James Duble/Dubel/Dubell on 11 NOV 1834 in Burlington County, NJ, and she is identified as Mrs. Ann Rockhill on the marriage record, so this was at least her second marriage. In John Dubel's will of 1852 (John is the father of James Dubel), he stated that his son James was deceased and had 5 living children. In the 1850 federal census, Ann Doble, age 43, is a head of household in Mansfield Township, Burlington County, NJ, with probable daughter Rebecca Rockhill (by her first marriage) and children William H. Doble and Mariah Doble. In the 1860 census, Ann Duble, age 54, is living with Aaron Haley and his wife Rachel A. Haley, age 39, in Mansfield Township, Burlington County, NJ. In the 1880 census, Ann Dubel, age 56 (obviously an incorrect age), sister-in-law, and Rebecca Rockhill, age 51, niece, are living in the household of Abbagail F. Aaronson, age 70, in Mansfield Township, Burlington County, NJ. I found a listing for Ann Duble in the Genealogical Magazine of NJ, stating that she was born on 5 MAY 1806 and died 14 MAR 1889, and is buried in Mansfield Township, Burlington County, NJ. You should be able to send off for her death record, and perhaps her parents are identified on it. I can be reached at fldawes@gte.net for any further questions.

Charles - I'm curious about your Charles Francis Duble. I have a Charles Duble in my tree who is the twin of a Thomas Duble. My mom says there is a Duble in our tree who went by the name of Frank. Maybe there is a connection? Please email me and we can compare notes. I don't get to the boards very often so please contact me privately. Thanks in advance.
My name is Charles Duble Jr, im afraid I have very little information about the family, earliest duble we know of is Charles Francis Duble.

You might have an easier time if you changed the spelling to "Eldridge." Amy was obviously named after her aunt, Amy Duble, who married Joshua Eldridge. I believe these two families were Quaker and have been trying unsuccessfully to locate the meeting house records for the Hopewell/Winslow area.

Karen Henry
