Dudley from Castleford Yorkshire

Hi, Can anyone help expand on this. My grandmother was Sarah Jane Dudley (born 14/03/1909) of Castleford, West Yorkshire, England and was the oldest one of 13 children. I don't know the other children (her brothers or sisters) ?

Her father was Samuel Dudley (born 1883) and her mother was Elizabeth Jones (born 1887).

Her grandfather was Edwin [Edward] Dudley (born 1852) and her grandmother was Sarah Parkes (born 1851).

Her great grandfather was Thomas Dudley (born 1824) and her great grandmother was Elizabeth (born 1824 ish)

Her great great grandfather was Joseph Dudley i think and born about 1791. I think some of the above might have come from Worcestershire.

Can anyone help with these Dudley's ?

I've hit a dead end with my ancestor Milton L. Cheek 1872-1936. His name is sometimes misspelled as Wilton or his middle name Luttie (possibly Luther)has been used.
Researching the Szymanski and Dudley connection

What I’m looking for is siblings, parents, and other relatives. I’m also trying to find the home towns my grandparents’ and great-grandparents are from. Doing research, whether it’s myself or getting help from the kindness of other people, I find last names and birthdates are different which makes this research all the more difficult.
My great-grandparents first:
Both great grandparents are from Poland (as far as I know). According to their gravesites; Felix Szymanski was born in 1887 and died 1939. Sophie (maiden name Smolenska (ie)) Szymanski was born in 1889 and died in 1959. I don’t know the exact months or days they died.
Now I have seen variations of the names Felix, Feliks and last name variations Szymanski, Simanski, Shumansky, and Semanski. Also, the birth dates are always different.
The Szymanski’s had 6 kids with 2 dying in early childhood (one child died in a drowning and the other died eating unripe green apples). I have seen census information that someone sent me on the Szymanski’s kids. They are Felix Jr. (b 1911), Helena(b 1914) (real date 1/23/13), Sophie (b 1917) and Alace (Alice) (b 1919). All born in New Haven, CT.
Helen is my grandmother!
Helen C. Szymanski married Joseph F. Dudley---I do not know their marriage date.
(I think) Elijah Luther Dudley and (Maggie) Margaret Hinch are Joseph F. Dudley’s parents (my great grandparents).
To my understanding Margaret (Maggie) Hinch was of Cherokee Indian.
I would like information pertaining to census records, birthdates, and former lived places (especially concerning my Polish great grandparents). I would like to know of any brother’s and sister’s my (Polish) great grandparents had.
Thanks for any information,
Best regards,
Avril Lynn Dudley
"One Dozen Pre-Revolutionary War Families..." by P. W. Fisher

The full title is, "One Dozen Pre-Revolutionary War Families of Eastern North Carolina and Some of Their Descendants". Do any of you Dudley researchers have any feedback about this book? It was published in 1958 by the New Bern Historical Society Foundation in New Bern, NC. Family histories include: Dudley, Pelletier, Hunter, Dennis, Weeks, Watson, Morton, Mann, and Bell.

In the Dudley history, I am trying to track the children of William Dudley(4), he was the child of Christopher Dudley(3), William Dudley(2), Edward Dudley(1).

Christopher Dudley(3)died in Onslow Co., NC in 1744. Children:
Edward(4)d. 1745 in Craven Co.;
Thomas(4), d. 1753 in Carteret Co.;
Christopher(4), d. New Hanover Co.;
**William(4), d.1772 in Onslow Co.;
John(4), d.1748 in Onslow Co.;
Ann(4), married Moses Houston.

**William(4) named children William(5), Edward(5), Stephen(5), Catherine(5) and Rebecca(5). Need any information about these children of William(4).

I can do lookups from this book if anyone would like. For American Dudleys it starts with Edward Dudley born in Bristol England and went to Virginia in 1637. It also gives some genealogy of the Dudley family in England.

Agatha Dudley (1756 - 1796) Will

Notes: Agatha Dudley is my 4th great grandmother. According to my present research, she was born in Caroline County, Virginia in 1756 to Christopher Dudley and Elizabeth Daniel. She was the fifth child out of eight. Her oldest brother, mentioned in this will, was Christopher Dudley. Christopher was born in 1749 in Virginia and died around 1828 in New Hanover, North Carolina. At the time she wrote this will, Agatha was living in Wilmington which is in New Hanover County in North Carolina. Thus it would be logical that this brother and sister would be reasonably close.
At the age of 32, Agatha Dudley married Daniel McMurphy (or MacMurphy) on 24 July 1788. This union yielded at least 5 children, but the only one surviving beyond the first year was their daughter, Agatha Dudley McMurphy. She was born 28 Aug 1794 in Wilmington, New Hanover, North Carolina. Daniel McMurphy died April 12, 1796 before his daughter was two years old. Agatha McMurphy died a few months later in October, 1796. It is assumed that she is buried in St. James’ Episcopal Church Cemetery in Wilmington. It is not known what happened to their daughter, Agatha, but she may have gone to live with her uncle, Christopher Dudley or she may have gone to live with the executor of the will.
Agatha Dudley McMurphy (the daughter) married John Beck Wright, son of James Wright and Charity Beck, on May 21, 1778 in St. James Church in Wilmington. She was 24. They moved to Duplin County, a short distance north of Wilmington. This union produced 6 children including twin boys. Two of the children died in infancy and John Beck Wright died Jan.13, 1831 at the age of 31. He left Agatha with the responsibility of caring for 4 boys under the age of 6. Fortunately, her father-in-law, James Wright was a wealthy planter and lived nearby and he was very considerate of this family in his own will. After the boys were gown, they would all, including Agatha, travel to Texas to make their home in Carolina, Falls County. Agatha died there on May 9, 1852 at the age of 57.
At the present time, the witnesses and executor to this will are unknown to me. Perhaps Jos. G. Wight was a relative of James Wright. The name of the executor is not clear. It appears to be Hadonias Traton, but it might be Straton or Tratons.
-------------------------------
Will of Agatha (Dudley) McMurphy
Dated: 25 Oct 1796

In the name of God Amen. I Agatha MacMurphy at present of the town of Wilmington being weak in body but of a sound and disposing mind and memory do make and ordain this to be my last Will and Testament. After the payment of all my just debts, I give bequeath and devise unto my beloved daughter Agatha Dudley MacMurphy all my estate real personal and mined to (her his heirs) (?) executor Hadonias Tratons, but in case my said daughter, Agatha should die before she attains the age of Twenty years without issue then & in that case I give bequeath & devise all my estate real personal & mined to my brother – Christopher Dudley his heirs executor Hadonias Tratons, whom I constitute and appoint executor to this my last Will & Testament hereby revoking & making void all former Wills & Testaments. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand & seal this Twenty fifth day of October in the year one thousand seven hundred & ninety-six.

Signed Sealed & published as
the last Will & Testament of
Agatha MacMurphy in
Witness of
Jos.
DUDLEYs in Ontario (ca 1850s) - Especially Matildas born 1822

I am interested in any DUDLEY in Ontario in the 19th Century and especially any information concerning a Matilda DUDLEY born “Anywhere” about 1822. At this point Matilda is a “brick wall” for me. I have collected quite a bit of information on DUDLEYs in Ontario during the mid 19th century period and would be glad to share what I have. Unfortunately little has been much help as yet in connecting up with my Matilda and I have reached the stage of looking for possible parents and syblings.

My Matilda DUDLEY (b about 29 Dec 1822 – d 26 Mar 1899, Cooksville) married William COX (b 12 Mar 1824, likely Somerset, England – d 8 Jan 1902, Cooksville) likely in Ontario about 1851. They were living in Cookville (Toronto Twp., Peel Co) by 1857 where William was the baker for many years. They had a family of at least eight children and daughter’s married BRUNSKLL, ROSS, STEWART and WOODS all in the Toronto Twp., area.

As I said any DUDLEYs in Ontario would be of interest to be at this point.
Harris, Abbott, Dudley, Daughtrey, Georgia, England, Florida, Indiana

I am trying to lcoate information on the following families. I have been told they also resided in Polk, Hillsborough and Marion Counties but I have not found them there so far.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

Ida May (possibly Harris), b May 1870 in Georgia, per 1900 Florida Alachua County census, married an Abbott and had a son, James F Abbott, born February 1893 in Florida. On James information it ststes his father was born in Georgia.

There is a marriage record in Levy, Florida for:
Abbott, A and Harris, Ida October 17, 1889.

In the 1900 census she has married Charles H Dudley, b April 1860 in England. They had a daughter Lottie/lettie/Lattie born in Florida about 1901.
Dudley was naturalized in 1865.
It might be a co-oincidence but in the 1880 census in Clark Indiana, there is a Charles Dudley, born abt 1860, England is listed as a prisoner in the Indiana State Prison working as a machinist.

In 1910 she is living in Williston, Levy county, Florida being married to William Major(s) Daughtrey. They have a daughter Willie May Daughtrey b in Florida about 1905/1906. James Abbott and Lottie.lettie/Lattie are in the household as step children. Daughtrey is born abt 1847 in Tennessee.

In 1920, she is still in Williston, Levy , Florida with William Daughtrey. Willie May is the only child in the household.

In 1923 William Major Daughtrey dies in Levy County, Florida per Florida death index.
On Ancestry.com I found a Civil War Pension for William M and a widow's pension for Ida May under his name. He served in Tennessee.
Alas, they also happen to be one of the many not listed on the Florida Memory site.
He filed Feb3, 1896 and she filed for a widow's pension on Aug 27, 1923.
In 1930 Ida May is living in Palmetto. Manatee County, Florida. She has a boarder by the name of Ed O'Roark.

After this I have no information.

If this is MY Ida May Harris she had a sister named Sarah E Harris who married Thomas Cain Turner. Their parents were (according to Sarah's death certificate, William M Harris and Roberta unknown. She is listed as being from Griffin Ga. Most of this family's DC's have errors in them though so I do not know if that is correct information or not.

Other names that might be connected to this family are: Wilson, Crawford, Suggs, Ward, Turner, Hicks, Tillis.

Thank you in advance,
Lisa
I am looking for any information on Oscar Festus Dudley (b.3/10/1893,d. 7/65), my grandfather, or Oscar Fitzhugh Dudley (b?, d?), his father. I understand that Oscar Fitzhugh was 1/2 Cherokee,
but I am new to this and don't know where or how to look. Oscar Festus was married to Berdie or Birdie Chapal Dudley (b?, d. 1953?). Oscar Fitzhugh was married to a full-blood
Cherokee named "Victory" or "Bird". My parents were divorced in 1959 and, I have had very little contact with my paternal side of the family since then. My father
is Kenneth Ray Dudley, Sr., of Nacogdoches, Texas.
If anyone can help me with information on these gentlemen, or my grandmother, I would appreciate it.

Thanks,
Vickii Bendit

Hi, I have a website dedicated to the Dudley family from Bedfordshire, but with links to Aus, USA, France, NZ. I often get enquries relating to other Dudley families, from the USA or different parts of the UK.

Does anyone have their own Dudley website or know of any Dudley websites that I could promote on my own site and add links to. I get about 300 hits a month to my site so should be able to forward some enquries onto you.

Thanks, Claire http://www.ourgenesonline.com

DUDLEY, GAIL, QUISENBERRY, BUSH

As you know the LDS records show a royal connection to the Dudley branch of the Quisenberry family and I have been looking into it. I wrote to the clerk in Spotsylvania County Virginia ( P.O. Box 96, Spotslvania, Virginia 22553-0096) regarding records and thewy told me the following -

probate for: Robert Dudley -d. 27 Dec 1776 - they claim nothing found
Matthew Gail -they claim nothing found
Joyce {Dudley} Quisenberry -died ca. 1795, Joyce {Gail} Dudley died ca. 1780 -they claim they have not got enough staff or time to look. They also would not look for the marriage record of Robert Dudley to Joyce Gail ca. 1745/6

I am sending to the Clerk in Middlesex County Virginia a request for the following:

Probate: William Dudley -died 15 Jan 1760
James Dudley -died April 1771
Ann (Fleet) Dudley -died 1 April 1722
Will Dudley -will probated July 1766
Marriage: James Dudley to Ann Fleet ca. 1677
William Dudley to Judith Johnson 27 April 1727

I will let you know what they have to say. I really need some sort of record to document Robert and Joyce {Gail} Dudley as the parents of Joyce {Dudley} Qiusienberry -the wife of Aaron Quisenberry. Aaron and Joyce {Dudley} Quisenberry were the grandparents of Jane{Quisenberry} Bush .

Anyone have records or info?

Ambrose Dudley (1760-1844) Researchers Beware

I have noticed several instances where Ambrose Dudley's
father is identified as Robert Dudley and the mother as Elizabeth Ransom Dudley. As of this date, I have not seen documentation for this assertion. It has not been proven at this point. Unless you have documentation such as Bible records, legal transactions which identify father-son relationships, old letters or something similar, please do not perpetuate this misinformation. Ambrose Dudley's father's name is unknown although his mother's first name was Elizabeth.
The family trees posted on Ancestry and other sites are wonderful tools, but they should be used as guides and their information verified. Just because information is included in a World Tree does not make it correct. There must be documentation beyond that inclusion.
Ambrose Dudley of NC, SC, Christian Co./Todd Co. KY, and Carroll Co., TN DID have a mother named Elizabeth, but her maiden name is unknown. Oral tradition thinks her maiden name may have been Benefield and it was/is supposedly Bible record she died as Elizabeth Blakeney. I have found no documentation to support the Benefield and Blakeney assertions.

Nathan Neighbors married Cynthia ? about 1819. Some online trees have listed her as Cynthia Dudley. Nathan's Cynthia would have been in Coffee County, Tennessee, in 1840 and relocated to Wayne County, Missouri, between 1842 and 1850. She was born about 1797. Nathan was born in SC so I suspect a marriage near the SC/GA border. Thank you.

In 1910, Joe and
Amanda were living with his son,
Melton Nicholas Dudley and his wife Effie
Elizabeth (Ashby)Dudley. (daughter of Hutson
Ashby). Joseph is my brickwall, and has been
for many years. On census of 1910,Joe is
listed as 61, born in Georgia and his parents
both, born in Tenn. Joe died sometime after
1910 census in Texas. Even a tiny clue would
be appreciated, as to Parents, Siblings etc.
email address:cbonner5@flash.net
Thanks,
Charlotte

William L. DUDLEY Biography, CT to WI to CT to WI

From "History of La Crosse County, Wisconsin", 1881, p. 821.

Town of Hamilton

WILLIAM L. DUDLEY, farmer, Sec. 9; P. O. West Salem; born at Guilford, New Haven Co., Conn. He came to the city of La Crosse, November, 1856. He came into La Crosse Valley the following spring; returned to Connecticut in April, but came back in July, of that year, and bought where he now lives. He brought out his family in October following; bought his first 200 acres of Mr. Lindley Murray, which he afterward increased to 500 acres. His wife was Miss Phebe Ives, born in New Haven Co. They have two sons and two daughters - Carrie (now Mrs. Aldrich), Walter W., Wilber I. and Jennie L. (now Mrs. Henry D. Griswold). Mr. Dudley is one of the most prominent of the early settlers of the La Crosse Valley. He has always been prominently identified both with church and educational interests. He is a leading member of the Congregational Church at West Salem.

[I am not related to this family and have no further information. I'm posting this as a service and hope it helps!]

DUDLEY was born in Lincoln county, Mo. , May 12th, 1848. Died, of heart trouble, Feb. 11th, 1913. He had been in poor health for a couple of years and for fifteen days his suffering was intense, but he made no complaint. He lived a meek, quiet life and was ready to meet his Maker. When he could no longer read his Bible, loving friends read to him. He is survived by a wife, formerly, Miss Ella STARKEY, and five children, Mrs. W.M.
