Duffell, Mercy Isobel bn 1901, William Albert bn1898, Edward James bn 1896.

These three children were born in London and were taken into care by Dr Barnado's and sent to Canada. Edward 1907 age 11 on The Dominion, William age 9 in 1909 - died 1914., Mercy age 9 in 1910 on The Sicilian, later married Donald Wood.

These children were my grandmother's siblings. Any information on them would be lovely. Large family tree with sources awaits.

HI IF anyone is still looking at this. I am Duffell and come from Kingston. My father Edward ( TeD ) was born in 1915 and his father john was in the first world war and died in 1917. I think his father was Thomas .My Dad told me about the link to Belgium and also that there were two duffell families in Kinston the fairfield duffells ( us ) and the coal duffell - this is born out by the 1901 census.
i think Thomassas father was also Thomas and they were all born in in Kingston.

I am looking for information about this family. Thomas Duffill (b Bromsgrove Worcs) a tailor, married Sarah Read in Herstmonceux in 1836. Their son John was born in 1837 in Battle, and by the time their daughter Hannah was born in 1840 they were living in Camden Town (London) I have eventually found them on the 1841 census I think. Thomas still living in London and Hannah living with a Ollive (sic) family in Salehurst. She is recorded as Duffell here, and I have found a possible death for Sarah Duffell in 1840 in Ticehurst. Still cant find John in 1841. I dont know what bought Thomas to Sussex - was Sarah from there ? By 1851 the family is in Dudley and Thomas is remarried. We know he married 3 times (not wasting anytime between wife 2 and 3 where there were young children, though he seems to have waited 9 years before remarrying after Sarah's death. They emigrated to the US in the 1860s

Do any of these names mean anything to anyone else ?

to bpitman_1 - Back in March 2006 you were looking for relatives of yours ref George Duffell and his father Abraham Duffell. You mentioned that George had a brother William born 1858 - but he also had a brother James b. 1866, and Harry b. 1871 and a sister Ellen b. 1869. My husband Peter Duffell is the grandson of the Harry Duffell b. 1871. My husband is Peter Colin Duffell, from Redhill, Surrey his parents were Harry W.H. Duffell, 1901-82 and Bertha, 1901-57 of Redhill, Surrey. Harry WH's father was Harry Duffell, 1871-1902, and Sally of Meadvale, Surrey. Harry's father was Abraham Duffell, b. 1829 and wife Hannah of Brockham, Surrey.Are you related to this family - please do let us know.

I thought i would let you no i have also chased my family history back to James + Mary also.

James also had a son called john who had a son henry who had a son william who had a son John who had a son Trevor who then had a son called Graham who is me.

As far as i can tell all of the above come from Dorking,Surrey.

Got a Jane Duffell in my tree on my mothers side from Kingston on Thames. Her Dad James his dad Richard borh 1825 Kingston, then Richard 1796, Richard 1772 married a Elizabeth born 1772, Reed Duffell married Jane born 1733C

Richard DUFFULL advanced money to William DUFFELL to purchase block of land here in Christchurch N Z. There must have been some connection. Ellen DUFFELL, d/o William & Jane Elizabeth (BURRELL) married James PRATT 27 Sept 1864. William & Jane arrived in Canterbury in 1850. I have not as yet managed to establish a connection between this family and my ancestors DUFFELL/DUFFULL who left England 1856. Having a reunion of descendants this weekend.

Seems that Thomas was married twice. His first wife was Susan who was born in Kentucky in 1843 and she died but by 1880 he was married to a woman by the name of Elizabeth born in Tn in 1844.
I have the first child, Annie born in 1861, John in 1865, and Mary J Patton 1866.

I am very interested in connecting with anyone familiar with this family. We are tied to the Duffells thru the marriage of at least one descendant, Joseph Henry "Doc" Duffell 1835-1909 who md Susan Jane Wallace 1839-1908, and possibly also thru "Rody" or Rhoda Duffell who md, I think, John Edward Wallace. It is particularly the latter couple I would like to sort out, since there are two men who could have been her husband as we see it. Enoch and Martha and family are found in 1850 and 1860 in Wayne Co. MO in close proximity to my ancestors. Will be happy to exchange info.

My great grandfather was George Duffell born in Nutfield Surrey in 1863. His bother was william born in 1858 and their father was Abraham born in Brockham Kent in 1829. George went on to marry Harriet Lambert and ran a grocers shop in Forest Hill Lewisham Kent. They had my Grandmother Winifred who died in 1994 at the age of 100. Have you got any further information about the family pre 1800's

My great great great grandmother was Jane Charlotte Duffell born in 1819 in Kingston.

Her parents were John Duffell born 1795 in Kingston and Hannah Morffew born 1799 in Kingston.

These were their children -
William James born 1818, JANE CHARLOTTE born 1819, John Frederick 1821, Hannah Harriett born 1823, Henry 1824, Sarah 1827, Thomas 1829, Maria 1831, Charles Edwin 1833, George 1835, Caroline Elizabeth 1837 and Fanny 1841. All born in Kingston.

I was researching my family as well, and branced off onto the Duffel's. I see there is a Mollie, John, and Annie PATTON who live with Thomas and Susan. It says they are step children, but whose?! It doesn't seem like they are Susan's, but not sure. Also, do you happen to know how and if Merideth's fit in with the Duffells? Thanks!!!

I have Thomas marrying Harriet HARDING 1814. Children born Billingshurst Sussex. Richard 1817 (mine)Lucy 1819,James 1822, Luke 1824 Henry 1826, Eliza 1828, & Harriet 1831.
Richard married Mary GUDSELL and they emigrated to New Zealand 1856.

Thomas T married Susan Elizabeth and their children are:
William Gifford, Robert Pickney, James Monroe, Mary L, Thomas J, and Jubilee.

William died 2 Oct 1892 at Papanui Christchurch NZ, buried at Sefton (North of Christchurch) 6 Dec 1884. Possibly should be 6 Oct??

I am working on my husbands genealogy. We have a Thomas T. Duffel married to a Susan Elizabeth but with no known last name. She was born ca.Jan. 1843. I have a list of their children.

Am looking for a particular Duffell family that lived in McLennan County, TX in the early 1900s. I do not know the first name of Mr. Duffell, but he was married to Georgia Virginia Ledbetter, who was born about 1873 in Lee County MS. Georgia Virginia Ledbetter Duffell is listed on the 1920 census for McLennan County as widowed, and living with her sister and brother-in-law, Dr. Isaac and Sarah Elizabeth Langston.

Don't expect I have much further information than Brian other than Henry married Ann Fairall in Reigate 9 October 1841 and Edward married Maria Finch in Reigate 20 May 1855.

As for one generation back, I only have the parents names, Thomas Duffell and Elizabeth Brown married 24 November 1801

William Duffell is my great-great grandfather. Actually died on 2 October 1892 in Papanui, New Zealand. Had brothers James, Thomas, Henry, Edward and sisters Lucy and Hannah but don't think any of them also went out to NZ

I've a John Duffell, who'd have been born c.1820 from Surrey. Married a Caroline and had Sarah, John & William.

I'm descended from Sarah, born in Dorking, c.1851, who married Henry Rapley and settled in Holmwood/Capel area.

Hello Brian,

It looks like someone has already done some work on Richard as there is an Ancestral File on www.familysearch.org (IGI). There are no brothers listed by the name of William - but that doesn't mean to say they weren't cousins.

Interestingly Brian they all lived within a 10 mile radius of where I now live, so perhaps I might find that my own Surrey DUFFELL's actualy came from "down the road"!!

I do also know that some of my "modern" Surrey DUFFELL relatives emigrated to NZ and AUS in the late 19th / early 20th Century.
