Pierre Dufour Jr's Marriage Date

Hello all,
I am looking for a marriage date via certificate or newspaper for Pierre Dufour b 1754 to Pierre Dufour Dit Bonvivant and his wife Marie Charlotte Gloria. I believe Pierre Jr. married late in life but previous to his daughter Catherine's birth on Sept 15, 1805. His family would have been present at Fort Detroit when it was surrendered to the English. I believe his wife was a native woman. The name Pierre is quite common which has limited my search capabilities.

My mother, Rose Dufour Johnson, is John Henry Dufour's daughter. John Henry Dufour is my grandfather, Shirley Plumbo is my aunt and John Dufour is my uncle, I believe he died before I was born. My mom has told me many stories about your dad, John over the years, she loved him very much and her, Shirley and John were very close siblings.

Renee Johnson Wolff
eener0601@yahoo.com

Amelia Dufour b 1800

I Am looking for information about Amelia Dufour who immigrated to New Orleans with her husband Giuseppe(Joseph) Biamonte. They came in 1832 with their 2 daughters Marie Antoinette and Aimee(Jeanne C). Evidently Amelia(Aumee) died soon after arrival. The family history indicates that she was from the house Of Bernadotte therefore related to the King of Sweden. Giuseppe was a schoolmate of Napolean III. He fought with the group of Carboneri in Italy and was exiled to France..I think the Bordeaux region where he married Amelia. They came to New Orleans in 1832.I think she died after a year in New Orleans, but I cant find anything about her. Giuseppe died in 1858.Julie Dameron
tyebasil@aol.com

Re: DUFOUR/DUFORCE Peter Detroit River Area

You can find reference to his daughter Catherine in the Metis records kept by the French until 1800 or so. It also mentions a sister of the same father being born/baptized. I believe she was one of four children born from Peter Henry Dufour b:13 May 1754. My estimation of four children comes from independent research that indicated 4 children of the same Indian mother "Sophie Couvillon" under the patriarchal name Dufor(t) which I believe is a misspelling or incorrect transcribing of a signature.

The metis directory can be found online here: http://www.telusplanet.net/public/dgarneau/metis-c.htm

and the research sample of a related name is here: http://www.bouvette.com/family/DUFAULT_Therese_1784/searchin...

Granddad's brothers were Valery, Leo, etc. Possibly we are related ..

Carole (Dufour) Driscoll
Hello, I recently started my search of the DuFour family name. I saw this post...I have a gg-grandmother Philomeme (Viau) DuFour. I do not have a date of which she was born, but it would be around the 1850's. If you are still active on ancestry.com would you help me verify if this is the same Philomene?

Thanks,
Emily

Gilberte Dufour 1927-2010

Bangor Daily News, Bangor Maine
MADAWASKA - Gilberte Florence (Doucette) Dufour, 82, left us Jan. 27, 2010, from hospice care at High View Manor, Madawaska. She was born March 12, 1927, in Grand Isle, the daughter of Annie (Cyr) and Leonard Doucette. Gilberte was a longtime and active member of Daughters of Isabella, St. Thomas Circle No. 546 and American Legion Auxiliary, Post 147. To help with family finances and to satisfy her social needs, she worked part time as a waitress at Roland's Rendez-Vous and as a laborer at Vollman's/Jade East. She was well known and respected in her community as a charitable woman who donated her time and talents to help those less fortunate than she. Gilberte's sense of humor was skillfully woven into her talents as a singer, musician and raconteur; her laugh was infectious. She was a skilled bowler, participating in a women's bowling league. Her artistic craftsmanship was evidenced in her work with ceramics, plastic canvas needlework, knitting, sewing and crocheting. Gilberte loved children. She donated countless artistic creations annually to classrooms of children at the elementary school during the holiday season. She was a childcare provider for a few working moms. She had an unshakable faith in God and was an active member of her church. Gilberte had compassion for the elderly and the sick. She and her husband, Louis, spent innumerable afternoons musically entertaining the elderly and the physically disabled at local residential health care facilities. Never having owned a car, they could be seen walking everywhere, stopping along the way to visit friends and those who were homebound. Gilberte is survived by her husband of nearly 63 years, Louis of Madawaska; daughters, Cecile of Madawaska, Pauline and Charlotte of Edmundston, New Brunswick; sons, Charles of Belfast and Jean-Paul of Toronto; grandson, Mark of Montreal; granddaughters, Cindy of Quebec City, Denyse and Karen of Edmundston, New Brunswick, and Nikkol of Toronto; great-grandson, Vincent of Edmundston, New Brunswick; sisters, Jeanette of Rumford, Sister Georgeanne of Biddeford, Lillian of Hartford, Conn., Alphena and Geraldine of Hamden, Conn.; brother, Roger and his wife, Lucille, of Glastonbury, Conn.; countless nieces, nephews and in-laws. Gilberte was predeceased by her parents; two stillborn children, Joseph I and Joseph II; sisters, Christine and Lena; and brothers, Alphie and Edmond. A funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 30, at St. Thomas Aquinas Church, Madawaska. Family and friends may call 6-8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 29, and noon until the time of service Saturday at Daigle Funeral Home. Interment will be held later in the spring at the parish cemetery.

I have a lot of information about the family and descendents of another daughter. Mary Eliza DuFour married Aaron A Ferguson whose family originally came by ship in 1849 to San Francisco from Louisiana. His father died enroute before they reached Panama. His mother continued across Panama, caught a ship to San Francisco and arrived in 1849. Aaron, the oldest, headed to the gold country, eventually settled in Dutch Flat where he was the proprietor of the opera house/skating rink. (see website www.museumca.org/golrush/tales-new12.html) This is where he and his wife Mary Eliza (my dad says her mother was a professional harpist from Germany) lived and had a number of children, several of whom died at a very young age, and one of which was my great grandmother -- Lucy Lucretia Rule who died in Stockton in 1967. Fast forward -- one of her daughters was Marseillete Rule (my grandmother) who married Frederick Albert Wagner. They lived in Stockton, San Francisco, Oakland, and eventally in Livermore, CA where they established a business that is still going today. I have quite a bit of information about the other descendents of Mary Eliza DuFour. I'm very excited about finding out more about Antoine and others in the family.

Need information on several people

I am looking for a Ruth Cline or Ruth Simmons Graser. She was married the first time to a Dufour. Her second marriage was to Theordore Graser. My problem is Ruth Simmons information is the same as the Ruth Cline, per date of birth, date of death. My father was Harry Francis Graser. So there is a problem. They (she) both married Graser's and personal information is the same. I can't find anything on Simmons on my family tree though. In the Frederick, Maryland paper in 1943 stated there was a Ruth Graser who put through a complaint of absolute divorce against my father. As you can see this is quite a problem. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

Several years ago there was a Dufour family reunion sponsored by The Madawaska Historical Society, Library Building, Main Street, Madawaska, Maine 04756. I would suggest you contact them. Ten small pamphlets of Dufour family lineage were published on 11"x17" paper, then a bound volume about 3/4" thick was printed. I am not descended from any of the Dufours in Maine, but we share the same ancestry in Quebec.

Hope this helps!
Maureen DuFour

Hello,
Several years ago there was a Dufour family reunion sponsored by the Madawaska Historical Society, Library Building, Main St., Madawaska, Maine 04756. They published ten thin pamphlets on 11"x17" paper, then a bound volume about 3/4" thick. All on the Dufours who had migrated from the St. John's River Valley in Quebec to the Madawaska region. In a simple tree chart in their reunion booklet, is listed Cyrille (1825 - 1864) son of David Dufour (1776-1842) mrd. 1799 St. Basille, N.B. Charlotte Poitier (1785-1837) dau. of Paul & Judith Thibodeau. David had a brother Joseph (1773-8134) mrd Rose Anna Theriault (1781-1809) dau. of Joseph & Madelaine Thibodeau.

David and Joseph were the sons of Joseph Dufour (military courier) mrd. 26 Oct 1772 at Kamouraska Josephte Autin, dau of Jean & Veronique Charet.

Joseph's father was Joseph mrd first 29 Oct 1732 at Baie St. Paul, P.Q. Marie Anne Tremblay, dau of Pierre and Marie Roussin. (You and I have this ancestry in common.)

This Joseph was the son of Robert-Gabriel Dufour mrd 2d 23 Aug 1703 Louise Gagne, dau of Ignace & Barbe Dodier.

Robert's parents were Francois Dufour and Francoise Morin from St. Jacques de Lisieux, Normandie, France.

Hope this helps!
Maureen DuFour

Re: Looking for grandfather's family - DuFour

Hello Aspen,
On 28 Feb 1980 I received a letter from Beverly & Joseph Dufour, 48 Wright St., Saratoga, NY 12866. She wrote, "My husband was very interested in your letter, although we are not related to you. My husband was born in Rouses Point, NY and attended a small school called Mooers Central School. He is the oldest of three, Joseph, Michael and Sherrie. His mother's name was Thelma LaFave Dufour and now Rabideau. His father was Author Anthony Dufour Jr. Author had five brothers, Robert, Joseph, Walter, Richard, and Paul. We are not sure of sisters. His grandparents were Author Anthony Dufour Sr. and Sabra Buchanan Dufour. Joe was very interested because he knows some of your relatives. I guess it's either your father or brother. Joe works out of Local 773 Plumbers and Welders in Glens Falls (NY)."

Last night I was going through some old correspondence in my DuFour file and came across the letter, so when I saw your query, I immediately connected the names. Hope this is of some use to you.

Maureen DuFour
