Thank you so much for getting back to me. I need to compare a male in my line, with that of Doris Duke. I am trying to prove /disprove our connection to her line. I would love to know when you have your results.

I am in the line and although I do not have DNA testing as of yet, I'm planning on doing so as soon as Ancestry.com gets there's rolling as apparently there is a bit of backlog of requests. :)

Our family splits back at Jesse Duke as my line comes from his brother, Aaron Duke.

I'd be happy to share anything I can with you until the testing is available to me.

I am looking for information regarding Joseph R. Duke, my great- grandfather. He was born in abt 1860 and married Sara Roberts.In the 1900 Census he lived in the Eutah community in Paulding County.My grandmother , Vada Duke Smith, related numerous stories of her cousins the Shipps in Paulding County.

I am looking specifically for Joseph's line.

I am searching for info on Cecil Lawrence Duke. I do not have birth date, death date or any info on him. I know he was married to my grandmother Vida Mae Smith and they had 3 children together-I also know that in 1948 they were living in Tarrant County, Texas. I am so stuck in my search right now-There is no surviving family to ask any info that I know of.

I'm researching the family of Merritt Duke, b 1784 NC, and Winifred Brown Duke, b abt 1785, NC. The information I have indicates they had children Steven, William, Greenberry, Elizabeth, and Caroline. (Possibly also a Rebecca and a Martha.) Merritt's second wife was Lucinda C. Williams Beard, and some of the info I have came from her descendant Mike Duke.

Merit/Merritt and Winifred were married in Wake Co., NC, in 1802. I don't know their parents. I've read a bunch of Duke genealogies and couldn't find Merritt in them.

Please take a look at my public tree called Arman Family Tree and see if you think this is a connection. I'm not sure I have been following the right Greenberry and William Duke.

The Steven Duke b 1806/07 I have on my tree had a land claim next to Merritt's in the 1820s in Alabama, so I'm fairly confident about him. His birthplace is given as Kentucky, so I think the Merritt Duke family went from NC to KY, possibly through SC. Then to AL and finally TN.

Merritt's daughter Elizabeth Duke Conn also named a son Greenberry/ Green Berry.

My great grandmother was Cordelia Savannah Duke, a daughter of John Frederick and Harriet Ellen Bailey Duke. She married Moses Calvin Flovaine(now all spelled Flovin, the only son of Melissa Tilley and John P. Flovaine/Flovain/Flowing. I have posted her profile and the only known picture of her in my public family tree on ancestry.com.

Henry Nelson Duke

I am looking for information on Henry Nelson Duke of SC>GA (1817-1898). I have researched several sites. He is believed to be the son of Lewis P Duke who is believed to be the son of Green Duke. I have found several clues but no real evidence. Lewis had at least 2 other sons, Darling and Enoch that he named in his will(documented). Henry later bought their land(documented). Does any one have information that ties the lineage of Henry>Lewis>Green together.

I am looking for the parents of Fountain Duke, who was born in Hanover Cty, Va in the late 1790's and also lived in Louisa and Goochland counties. He married Judith Nevels Pryor. Fountain Duke died in Goochland Cty,Va prior to 1834. In 1834 Judith and remaining family traveled with Prices, Trices and the Turners to McNairy Cty, TN and then relocated to the Arkansas Cty, Ark area in 1859. Fountain Duke is my great-great-great-great-grandfather.

Ensley Duke b. abt 1825 -> Parents

I am attempting to trace back with some measure of certainty, my family name. I'm pretty sure I'm on the right track, but any help you might give would be fantastic.

I've traced it back as far as Ensley Duke (misspelled Dukes on one of the census I have seen), however, I have been unable to discover any solid documentation of his parents or where he grew up aside that he was born in Fairfield, SC., and that in the 1850 census an elderly Aaron Duke aged 86 b.1766-d.1852, was living with Ensley and his family.

Again, I'd almost assume that Ensley is born to Aaron, but I don't see any records of that anywhere I've looked so far. The thing that gives me pause on the assumption would be Aaron's age at Ensley's birth, that being approximately 61 if dates hold close. If Aaron and his wife at the time were of similar age, this seems to be a stretch, even for modern science, albeit not unheard of. :)

If anyone can point me in the right direction I'd love to hear from you!

Duke-Shipp Family GA to Ark

Looking for any descendants of James Waldrop Duke who moved to Arkansas (Was in Nevada Co. by 1880) from Paulding Co. GA. in the Fall of 1871.

James W moved there with a large group from Paulding Co. GA, other known members of this group are:

James's Mother Margarett (Waldrop) Duke. He husband Edward S. Duke had died in 1862 in Paulding Co.

James' sister Sarah Duke. She never married.

James' sister Susan Duke Shipp, and her husband Joseph Richard Shipp and their first seven children. They moved back in 1872.

Simon Weathington He had been married to Joseph Richard Shipp's sister Eliza Jane, who had died just prior to the move to Arkansas. While in Arkansas, Simon married Joseph Richard's eldest daughter Margaret Amy Shipp. Simon and Amy moved back in 1872 also.

There is vague oral family tradition that other members moved too, but returned. Joseph Richard Shipp's daughter Susan Ann Shipp, (Marr Andrew Jackson McMichen) was about 10 years old when they moved, she later related that her father didn't like it there and moved back. He had not sold his house in Paulding County and had a place to return too.

James Waldrop Duke, his mother, wife and other family members are buried at Mount Moriah Baptist Church, near Hope Ark.

yep that is us, Eddie Mae Duke who was from the Knowles family(I think that's how they spelled it). Thomas William Duke and Eddie Mae had Thomas Jefferson Duke (along with several other children) which had Thomas Jack Duke Sr.(Dad) which had Thomas Jack Duke Jr.(me) which had Thomas James Duke (my son)

As I looked through my tree, I realized I had no other information on Thomas William ( your g grandpa),so I am very glad you contacted me. I did find a Thomas Duke married to an Eddie Duke in the 1910 census. Do you know if that is the correct family. If not, do you know his wife's name. I am pretty good at finding information, but never like to add it until I know it is correct. That is probably why I hadn't put it in yet, as I had no connection to check with.
Let me know if you need more information for your tree, as I have a lot of people in my tree.

You don't have all the wrong information. Actually Mary is my great aunt. I actually have two sets of Dukes in my line. Your line and my great grandma's. I have your grandma as being born in Alabama. Her parents were James Edward and Melinda Jackson. My great grandpa was her brother J.L. Jackson, which married the Mary Duke I am looking for. I will double check my tree and send you all the info I have on your Mary. I guess this means that, with a few removes, we are cousins.

Im not sure where TW Duke was born I think in Harris Co Ga.
I don't know any thing about Mary except whats in here obit in the Columbus Ledger newspaper what i have is either a misprint or a mistake I had her husband as John P Duke but he has a death date as 1863. other info I have says they were married around 1866 so I am somewhat confused on between what I have and the obit (My Great Grandfather )T.W. Duke wasn't born until 1880. Also it said in the obit for Mary that she was married to a John T. Duke. HELP lol

This is my great great grandfather and his wife. They had 8 children. My great grandfather John was their 3rd, he married twice to my knowledge but had most of his children to Catherine (Kate) Carter however they did not marry. Their 4th out of 7 was my grandfather Thomas.
I would love to hear from you as we are trying to trace a line of the family from Alfred John (Bluey) whose wife and child disappeared following his death at a wood yard at Bathurst in 1932.

James Madison Duke born in Pickens SC, died 1892 in Oconee Co. SC, m. 1834 to Lavinia (Jennings, some records say,) Davis, b. 1818 Pickens, SC, d. before 1890.

Apparently James and Lavinia divorced. He went to live with his son, Perry and wife Emily in Franklin, AL. Lavinia lived with son, Warren Cornelius Duke in Pickens or Oconee Co. SC. That's why there are 2 different locations in the census years for James. If you will look closer at the census forms, you will notice that both James and Lavinia are listed as being divorced.

James and Lavinia's children:
Elizabeth Jane Duke, b. 1829, d. 1922
William Anderson Duke, b. 1838, d. 1884
Henry Madison Duke, b. 1840, d. 1868
John Tyler Duke, b. 1842, d. 1909
Mary Caroline Duke, b. 1844, d. 1919
Perry Washington Duke, b. 1845,
Margaret E. Duke, b. 1847, d. 1941
George Franklin Duke, b. 1849, d. 1917
Warren Cornelius Duke, b. 1850, d. 1913
Amanda Duke, b. 1859, d. 1901

Perry Washington Duke is my gg-grandfather. I have further information, i.e specific dates of birth/death/location and marriage. Records of children/their marriages, etc. Willing to share and gain more knowledge about my family.

NOTE: As far as I can tell, this line of David Duke and Elizabeth Miller Duke are not connected to the Major Duke that produced George Washington Duke of the American Tobacco Company and for whom Duke University is named.

My last name is Duke and I have family in East Texas. Do you also have Crawford's in your family? My grandmother was named Roxanne King. My dads name is Bernard. His father was named Sheridan Duke.I didn't get the chance to meet him and I think I spelled his name right.I had an Uncle Phillip out in East Texas but he died in a tragic car accident several years ago. The town that pops up in my head is Jacksonville, I'm sure there are others, I just don't have answers.
