I am researching the Bugge or Bugg family and the furthest back I have got is to William Bugg born 1819 in Colchester Essex England. My own grandfather William Alfred Bugg was born 1879 in Rochford Essex England.

I have reviewed the Record book from St. Peter's Parish in New Kent County. Based on other times "w" is used, it is clearly "Mathew", not "Mathen". Please see the attached examples. It is not a popular girls name, but it is used as a girls name in 0.25% of the people named Mathew.

Mark, I am related to Martha by one of her sisters, Leah Catherine, who married Rufus Clayton, who had a son named Will, who had a girl named Bethel (my mother). The Nancy listed on the tombstone with Martha, was her mother (I think). Martha's father, I think, was David Guthery. I would be happy to share all of my information with you, if you are interested.
Barbara,
I am the great grandson of Martha Dumas (Martha Jane Guthery). I have some pictures and information in my tree. At the foot end of the grave is a marker for JD Guthery. I assume the Guthery family lived in the area. I believe the headstone was created with the left side open for Martha's husband (AES Dumas). However, AES remarried about 6 months later, and the Guthery family used the headstone for Nancy. Do you know anything about the Guthery family (Nance, JD, or Martha's parents)?
Mark Dumas

My mother's maiden name is Dumas and her direct line goes back to Jeremie Dumas Sr and Susanne Faure. I have the John Wilson books because my mother assisted in some of the research. I don't know how correct these books are; but, I do know how much time and some of the people that worked on gathering information. I printed off the posts on this site from Nov 1999 to 18 Aug 2011. Here is what I have on the post on 8 Nov 1999 from Linda C. Dumas stating what she typed was infor. from Judie Winderweedle ---- Jeremiah Dumas born 1817 in GA died in Union County, AR, not Union Parish, LA. He married Rena in Monroe Co., GA; Rena was born in LA and died in Union Co., AR. Stacia Pamelia Dumas was born in Uion Co., AR. Rena did die giving birth to Stacia and her twin brother who also died with Rena. Jeremiah and his wife Jane Pate had a son named David born 1857. Jeremiah had a 3rd wife July Ann Smith born abt. 1842 in AL and died 1863; they married 1 Jan 1863 in Union Co., AR; they had a daughter Lydia Stephens Dumas born 12 Dec 1863 in LA and died 20 Aug 1937 in TX. ----- jacquelynstuart posted on 8 Nov 1999 asking who were the parents of Jeremiah Dumas born 1817 in GA which is the same Jeremiah discussed above. His parents are Benjamin Franklin Dumas II born 1783 NC and died 1 Mar 1838 in GA and Martha Ussery born abt 1778 NC and died abt 1838 GA. Benjamin Franklin Dumas II was the son of Benjamin Franklin Dumas I and Susannah Hutchins. Benjamin Franklin Dumas I was the son of David Dumas I and Sarah Moorman. David Dumas I was the son of Benjamin Dumas I and Frances Clark. Benjamin Dumas I was the son of Jerome "Jeremiah" Dumas and Unity Lucy Smith. Jerome Dumas was son of Jeremie Dumas Sr. and Susanne Faure. Their 6th child, Count Louis Dumas Sr. was born abt. 1684/1685 in Holland, Netherlands.--- Referring to post of 3 Aug 2002 by Linda Cox concerning the ancestors of Benjamin Dumas III. In Generation No.1, it reads to me that Benjamin Dumas III born 1775 married Sarah Atkins about 1779??? The post could have meant Sarah was born abt. 1779?? Further down in that post under Notes for Sarah Atkins it shows her 9 children; then it states children of Benjamin Dumas and Sarah Atkins are: Moses, David, Benjamin Franklin and John. Why the 9 children then the 4 children?? I show the parents of Moses Dumas Sr. and Benjamin Franklin Dumas V (I show II, not V), born 1787 in NC to be Benjamin Franklin Dumas I and Susannah Hutchins. I show the parents of David Dumas II born 1781 (he died abt 1814/1815)to be Benjamin Dumas II and Jemima McLendon. I show John Dumas as the son of Benjamin Dumas III and Sarah Atkins as stated.----The post of 19 Jun 2011 by thecallingrox06 - here are my comments. Jeremie Dumas married Susannah Faure whose son, Dr. Jerome/Jeremiah Dumas married Unity Lucy Smith whose son, Benjamin Dumas Sr. married Frances Clark whose son, David Dumas I, married Sarah Moorman whose son Benjamin Franklin Dumas I married Susannah Hutchins. Benjamin Franklin II born 1783 in AR married Martha Ussery. Benjamin Franklin Dumas I and Susannah Hutchins had sons named David Dumas II born abt 1781 NC, Benjamin Franklin Dumas II born 1783 AR, and Moses Dumas born 1787 NC. The person (thecallingrox06) that sent this post stated 4 generations after Moses Dumas to her grandpa. Who is the grandpa?? --- The post of 17 Jul 2011 by lcdumas - my comments -- Benjamin Dumas I married Susannah Hutchins and had 3 sons, David Dumas II b. 1785, Benjamin Franklin Dumas V (I have II) b 1783 m. Martha Ussery and Moses Dumas born 19 Sept. 1787 married Frances Hendly who have 12 children. Benjamin Franklin Dumas II and Moses are siblings.
I agree with the post that stated there are too many Benjamin's and David's in the Dumas ancestry. I would also add Jeremiah's. The post of 18 Aug 2011 by lcdumas -- my comments--I have Benjamin Franklin Dumas II where you show V. I have Benjamin Franklin Dumas I where you have Jr. -- I admire Linda C. Dumas working on her late first husband's line. This is a very confusing line because of such repeatitive names without the I/Sr., II/Jr., III, etc. We just continue to correspond and do the best we can. Thank you all for the information I gathered from your posts. This post is long and probably very confusing. I apologize in advance if it does not seem to make sense. I will be very appreciative of any comments/assistance, etc. Thank you.

Sorry it has taken me an age to get back to you. Moses Dumas is indeed a sibling of Benjamin Franklin Dumas V. There are a couple of Dumas line books. I believe I copied mine when I was in Salt Lake City doing genealogical research. Both books concur on the information I have. I have the children of Benjamin Franklin Dumas, Jr. and Susannah Hutchins as David Dumas II b. 1781, Benjamin Franklin Dumas V b. 24 August 1783, and Moses Dumas b. 19 September 1787. As far as the number V, it appears that many people named their sons Benjamin Franklin Dumas, and that V doesn't necessarily follow IV. Go figure.
This was my late first husband's line, and I am still actively researching his tree, so if I can help you, let me know.

Linda C. Dumas
I typed in Google "usgenweb ga benjamin dumas" to find the website that abponder recommended on this website. The information at usgenweb is conflicting with mine and many of the names don't match up with what I have in my family tree.
I did, however, find many relatives that YOU named in my own tree. I found (in order): Jeremie (Jean?) Dumas, Susannah Faure, Jeremiah Dumas, Unity Smith, Benjamin Franklin Dumas Sr, Frances Clark, David Dumas, Sarah Moorman, Benjamin F Dumas Jr, and Susannah Hutchins.
The only conflicting info with your tree and my tree is that I don't see a 3rd Benjamin F Dumas (the one that married Martha Ussery). In MY tree, Benjamin & Susannah Hutchins have MOSES DUMAS and my line continues four more generations to my grandpa.
Could it be the 3rd Benjamin isn't in my tree as a direct descendant of mine because he is a SIBLING of MOSES Dumas??? You could be a descendant of Benjamin and I of Moses. Confusing! lol
Just wondering where I could find that book? And is it just that book that you got this information or anywhere else? It's nice to meet someone I'm distantly related to! :)

Hmmm, it shouldn't, but let me give you some more info and maybe adding some information will help. Wilfred's siblings were Naome b. 1903, Alice 1905, Leona 1908 and Roland 1910 as of the 1910 census of Woonsocket, RI.

Antoine died 2 Mar 1944 in Woonsocket.

Antoine's father was Cyprien Dumas b. 1832 in St. Claire, Quebec, mother Marie Tyson b. 1836

Cyprien's aprents were Antoine and Marie Langlois, both born 1805 in Quebec. Antoine's parents were Joseph Dumas b. 1765 in Montmagny and Genevieve Chavagnel (Javanel)

You should be able to tap into someone elses tree this far back. There are lots of people connected to the Dumas family from Canada.

Mass. Death Index lists Wilfred's birth date as 8 Aug 1907.
Death is 26 Sep 1999. I suspect Wilfred is the nephew to my second great-grandfather Jean Dumas of Quebec City who also emigrated to RI. Jean's brother, Wilfred's father, was Antoine Dumas born 1868 in Quebec City who was married to Marie Marcoux, born 1880 in Canada. If you log into Ancestry.com I have a pretty extensive tree for the Dumas family.

Danielle

The farthest back I've ever known is my great grandfather Wilfred J Dumas, born about 1902 in Lincol,RI, died about 2000 in Northampton,MA. He was married to Isabel K Templeton, they had a son John Theodore Dumas (Sr. my dad is Jr.) on 7/12/1932. Also a daughter, but don't know her birthday, name is Betty.

I was also curious about my mother's father. Albert Frank Robichaud, born 15 August 1929 in Cambridge,MA. He married Lorraine M Rochon. He died about 1970 at only 41 years old. I believe his father was Frank E. Robichaud born about 1901, married to Angelina M Crepeau.

Thanks for any help getting started on my search.

I am well aware of the fact that Noe (Noah)and Eveline had a son named George. But this George you are referring to was a very young child who died in infancy. I was referring to children who lived to adulthood. Noah and Eveline had no son, George who lived to adulthood.

To clarify - my past messages are referring to a George G. Dumas. This George lived to adulthood, married Mabel Capstraw and had children. It is this specific George that others are linking to Noah and Eveline's family tree. They are listing him in their family trees as a son of Noe and Eveline, which he was not. George G. Dumas (husb. of Mabel) was in fact the son of Louis Dumas and his wife, Adeline "Addie" Gokey.

I am researching my family history and came upon your post.
My grandmother was Ellabel Dumas (Shea) (Calvanese) as she was married more than once. Her daughter Barbara is my mother. My grandmother who was referred to as "Pat" by her friends was born in VT and died in Springfield Ma. back in the 90's. Are we speaking about the same person and if so were you aware of her passing? If this is true then you are my mothers sister and my aunt....correct? If so is there any information about this part of our family history you can share with me? John
