Hello David, I am so happy to hear from you...Looks like your family to me. I am female, married and 75 years old. I wonder if you would like to visit my ancestery page that way you can get information first hand. My G Grandfather Halford D. Gerrard married Alice B. Dumbleton, Henry Dumbleton and Clara Garcia daughter. You will be disapointed because my Dumbletons don't go very far back. I have been doing this Genealogy for so many years. Before computers.. I received aSouth African Country Life Magazine from Karen Crowther with pictures of the family and the Oakhurst House and Fairy Knowe Hotel that was built in 130 years ago by Walter Dumbleton in 1868. We were invited to the family Reunion but couldn't attend thus the mazagine and a nice letter from Karen with information on the Garcia family. My GGGrandfather was the orginal owner but wanted to come to the united states and sold it all to his brother Walter. All is still owned by Dumbletons and Crowthers. Now question. Are these Dumbletons the ones your looking for?? Must be since you mentioned Roderick. When Walter Dumbleto died in 1917 he left his land to his two sons, Harlod took land near the river and he and wife established a small guest house that grew into Fairy Knowe Hotel which is still owned and run by Dumbletons. Roderick inherited the Holiday House Plus a portion of land extending into Wilderness and eventually Oakhurst Estate. I hope this helps you. Here is my e-mail address: lyniepoo@bresnan.net
If we use that to corspond we will get it instantly and not have to wait for a notice. For the family reunion there were 62 that came from England and Canada... hope to hear from you soon.... Marilyn (Lynn) Norton

Hi there
I have seen your email re Henry Dumbleton. My name is Dave Dumbleton and I live in Durban on the East coast of South Africa. I was brought up in Cape Town and my father was Bertram Dumbleton a well known portrait artist. His father was (I think) Douglas Dumbleton and there was a Henry Dumbleton who could have been Douglas's brother. Unfortunately my mother was 45 when I was born an only child so I do not know too much about the family history (I wish I did!) I know my grandfather emigrated from England towards the end ot the 1800's to settle in South Africa and built a home near a town called George in the Eastern Cape.
I had 2 uncles. Roderick who built a house and farmed near George and Harold who built and ran a hotel at a place called The Wilderness on a river near the coast not far from George. Henry could have been their father. The family no longer owns these properties and I have lost touch with them. I am 77 years old now but still fit! I would love to know where your family originates from. Please let me know.
Many thanks and kind regards
Dave Dumbleton
27 June 2011

I am directly descended from Eliza and Samuel Dumbleton, who emigrated to NZ - In particular from their son Mark. I have a lot of knowledge about them in NZ, so do get back in touch.
Regards
Anne

I am related by marriage only. After James died in 1893 his widow had another five children with Mark William Allibone, my grandmother being the middle one. I have found the blacksmith's workshop in Studley where James & Annie were living in 1891, and the row of cottages in Stratford where James died.

Anyone with existing trees that can help would be much appreciated! Pippa

I've investigated the Dumbleton family because my beloved great grandmother was Alice Elnorah Dumbleton, granddaughter of Alpheus Dumbleton. Hiram and George Dumbleton will be found there. To check out my data, go to my genealogy website and click: Self Genealogy > Dumbleton Family > Dumbleton Genealogy. I am researching my husbands family and George could have been a Gr uncle, brother of Marian? Marian was my husbands Grandmother. I keep coming back to Alpheus and Betsey Bisbee. Don't know if I'm going in the right direction.
I'm new to this research and any help is really appreciated.
