Hi Jess

I sent you an email... we are in fact, related! My Nana- Kathryn (Kitty) Dunleavy Bibaud was your grandfather Budd's younger sister! I have a photo that ID's your grandfather from about 1933... it is on my family tree. There is an unidentified woman in the photo... perhaps you can take a look to see if it maybe your grandmother?

Here is what I have discovered about the Dunleavy family since my original post on the message board:

The Dunleavy family (Scranton, PA):

John Dunleavy (not much info on him)
Catherine (Cassie) Francis Dunleavy (1882-1965)

Their children:
Thomas Francis (used his mother's maiden name) b 1901
John (Jack) Dunleavy b 1903
Ruth Dunleavy Jones b 1906
Irene Dunleavy Hoover b 1909
William (Budd) b 1912
Kathryn (Kitty) b 1912
Joseph b 1924?

You are correct about Aunt Irene living in Idaho... she and Uncle Charlie lived there for many years. Joe also resided out there as well, I believe.

Please respond to my email or here at the message board. I would love to share info!

Hi Kathleen!, My Great great grandparents were John Dunleavy and Cassie Francis. From what I know their children where Ruth, Irene (Kitty), Joseph, and my great grandfather William (Budd) who was born in 1912. I'm from Scranton, PA by the way. Not sure if we're related or if this info will help but!, Ruth Jones had a daughter Shirley and son Robert. William had two sons William and Thomas. My dad said Irene lived in Idaho. We're not too sure if Joseph ever married and he lived in Scranton for a little while. My email address is dunleavy@susqu.edu if you have any information you would like to share or if I can help anymore! :)

I am also related to John Dunlavey, which would be my great-great-grandfather. My grandfather's name was Thomas Clarence Dunlavey Jr. from Dayton, Ohio. He was a retired police officer. I believe that John lived on 10 Bolton St. in Dayton. I heard from my father that they came from county Clare, Ireland. That is about as much information as I have. I know that I have cousins on the Dunlavey side, but I do not know any of them. Please reply! Chuck Dunlavey

I don't think so, from first glance, but the last name, Flynn, and England sounds promising. I have never been able to locate the marriage license of my g-grandparents and have often wondered if, when Christopher, was booted off his land in West Dromore, County Sligo, he didn't go to England. There is a gap of just a few years and he is then shown living on South Hill St., Ballina, married - to Catherine Flynn - and the beginnings of a family of 10.

I will keep looking myself - I am convinced that we are all related, somehow.

My very dear friend is a Dunleavy the gggranddaughter of Patrick and Winifred Flynn Dunleavy. Patrick was born in Ballina about 1834. Patrick was Winifred's second husband as she had been married to a "Mahady". I first find this family in Leeds, Yorkshire, England in 1861 with a son John born in England in about 1858. Patrick and Winifred were married in england in 1857. IN 1861 Patrick's mother lives in the House - her name was Sarah. By 1865 they are in the US having originally settled in Plymouth Meeting/Conshohocken, PA and then moving to Philadelphia, PA.

Does any of this fit in with you family tree?

Carolyn, thanks so much for the quick response. I live in Alexandria, VA (Fairfax County). My dad left Wilke-Barre after his stint in the Korean War and went to Buffalo, NY as an air traffic controller. He was the youngest of 6 and died at 53 so I don't have a wealth of information from his side of the family. I know from the 1930's census that my great grandfather James was living with my Gram and my grandfather and my aunts and uncles but then the trail runs cold. My aunts uncles named Austin, Mae, Margaret, John Jr. James then my dad, Joseph Francis. Only Austin is still living. I can't believe how many "Marys" "Maes" "Margarets" "Michaels" keep popping up in my family tree.

Hi, my name is Carolyn Cline Skaritza and I am sure that we are related in some way. My mother's name was Mary Agnes Dunlavey Cline born (December 16, 1905) and raised in the Scranton/Laceyville/Wilks Barre, PA area. Her mother was Grace McCabe Dunlavey and her father was Leo Patrick Dunlavey and they both lived in the same area in PA. Leo, his sister, Mae, and I believe their mother arrived here on The City of Richmond ship from County Mayo Ireland in the late 1800's. Leo's elder sister, Agnes, had emigrated to PA several years before. I do not have a lot of history on the Dunlavey side of the family as my mother never really knew her father and my mother was an only child. The only relatioship my mother had on the Dunlavey side was through her Aunt Mae, the sister of her father. The same Leo and Mae who emigrated here together from County Mayo.

I located my cousin, Kathleen through this same post. Her grandmother was my Great Aunt Mae. She was Nana to Kathleen and Aunt Mae to me and my mother. I don't know if you have already contacted her, but she can provide a great deal more information on the Dunlaveys than I. I know that she won't mind if I give you her e-mail. Contact me (Carolyn)at cjskaritza@gmail.com.

Where are you living? Kathleen and I discovered that we live just one county away from each other here in Virginia.
I look forward to hearing from you! Carolyn

Hello, I am starting to research my family. My grandmother was Mary Dunleavy, born July 31, 1893 in Wilkes-Barre, PA (Luzerne County). Her father was James and he was likely born in 1866. I've always understood that they were from County Mayo. My Gran married John J. Kittrick and she lived until December, 1980. Could her family be part of yours?

Looking for descendants of Patrick Dunleavy, Mail Coach Road, Sligo who had children with names Joseph, Gregory, Mary Anne, Christine. We only recently found out that some other members of the family emigrated to Canada and U.S.A. or possibly Scotland. Patrick's wife's name was Sarah from Belfast City who was approximately 1823. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Looking for info on my great grandfather and grandmother, John and Catherine Dunleavy. My grandmother was their youngest daughter, Kathryn Dunleavy Bibaud. Her sisters were Ruth Dunleavy Jones and Irene Dunleavy Hoover. Brothers are Thomas, John and Joseph. I found a 1910 census with John and Catherine on it, then another from 1930 that lists Catherine as head of household, married, but no John listed. Just wondering if anyone has any info on this branch of the Dunleavy family... trying to find out what happened to John and what Catherine's maiden name was (one census has her parents born in Wales).

I think that I was told once, about 10 years or so ago, that Anthony Dunleavy is a relative of my g-grandfather, Christopher Dunleavy but the information was vague. Apparently all the Dunleavys of West Dromore, County Sligo, lost their rented land to the horrid Lord Palmerston, during the famine. Many left for England, where I'm thinking my g-parents married b/c I can't find a record of their marriage in Ireland. By 1863 the g-grandparents had returned to Ireland but b/c they had no land many settled in the closest city that being Ballina, County Mayo. My grandmother was born and raised there, until they left for America. The person giving me the information said that many of the Sligo relocated to Mayo Dunleavys then traveled to Lackawanna and Luzerne Counties, PA. This wonderfully wise gentleman, Mick Dunleavy, had so much information on my family it was amazing and he said that he is of the Anthony Dunleavy branch but that we were all related. Sadly, I haven't heard from the gentleman in years (he even had records from Schyuylkill County, PA, where an aunt and her family had relocated to!~
