I am Joy’s brother in-law (Richard) and I am fielding the messages on the Board for her as she was hurt and is not able to use her computer for a limited time.

Joy and I have been working for some time together with a large group of family members to correct the invalid information that is on the Web and the missing information from the American Indian’s in the family.
Hi Durrett researchers I'm helping to research the surname for my niece's father-in-law. I have a Samuel Durrett born in 1888 in the district of Gloucester. I believe that his mother's maiden name was STOKES but I'm searching for her given names. Samuel married an Ada Payne born around 1884 in Cirencester, England. I believe that Ada's mother's maiden name was ROSE.So I am asking for assistance to find the given names for Samuel and Ada's mothers given names, and any further information on these names. Thank you.
Tish

There is so much mis-information in this post that I don't know where to begin....sorry to be harsh, and possibly you have more frequent updated and correct information. I will apologize in advance if this is the case. For others:

The Woods-McAfee regarding wife as Mary Van Hook is totally incorrect and after personally reviewing this publication (?) there was no mention of their marriage in this document what-so-ever. that seems to be quoted frequently.

Francois Parrain de Durette took Oath of Naturalization in London. He stated his father was Paul Parrain de Durette and that his mother wa Antonio, born in France. There are two marriage License Allegations one in March 1699 and one in March 1700. Both state he was 30. = Born 1670. (2 different women) He then shows up in Jersey as a Rector in 1724 or 25. He is NOT the same Francis as bought land in 1724 in Virginia. Can't be in two places at once. He could be some of our Durrett's father, but no proof one way or the other.

Louis Duret was physician in 1500's...I can't seem to get back before 1700, let alone another 200 years.... Note in any of these publications, there is not any information about who those ancestors were for those 200 years.
Would someone please provide souces and documentation?

The 3 brothers is also urban legend and without quoted source. Once published and once quoted has seemed to become "true". There is not one shred of evidence of these Durrett's in early Virginia as being brothers, though most of us do believe they are related somehow. We are doing DNA testing with KNOWN descendants and proven paperwork to establish lines. We are looking for more Durrett males, but to check out current results, please see www.worldfamilies.net/surnames/durrett/results

Francis and Bartholomew were closely related. cousins maybe

Hope some of this helps.
May I inquire which Richard you are referring to?
Richard that m/Sarah Hampton (homestead off Preddy's Creek, aka Wakefield Plantation near Earlysville. He was son of John and Mary as proven through a lawsuit.
Richard that m/Sarah Marshall, father unknown
Bartholomew, brother's and father unknown, though he did
have a very close relationship with Francis, which has been proven through DNA. He also was a relation somehow to John and Mary (son Richard that m/Sarah Hampton. )

Dinah (Durrett) Beattie

We have a group of 45 Durrett Researchers that have informaton on the early Virginia Durrett's. We have also started DNA research with over 20 male Durrett's from known branches.

I would like to invite anyone who has hit a brick wall or wants find their early Durrett ancestor to paricipate in Family Tree DNA's Holiday Sale.

This offer is for Durrett males who have not already participated in our DNA project and who wants to determine who their early Durrett ancestors were. By participating in the Durrett DNA Project you can possibly break down your brick wall and hopefully find your direct line back to Colonial Virginia.

We also need Durrett males who live in England and France to participate in our DNA project. We know that the Duret’s (original spelling) came from France, however, we cannot connect back to France or England until we find Durrett males from these countries who are willing to participate in our project. I would like to encourage those who live in a foreign country to participate in our project.

We desperately need Durrett males i.e., father, brother, uncle or cousin to participate. We do have scholarships available to defray the cost if anyone is interested. This is on a first come first-serve basis.

By doing a DNA test, you might find that your Durrett family connects to one of the following Durrett lines. The more people we have tested the closer we come to Solving the Durrett Mystery.

The following lines have been tested
Bartholomew-
Joel Durrett -Achilles-George (removed to Kentucky)
Joel Durrett-Achilles-Anderson (removed to Texas)
Joel Durrett-John (removed to Kentucky)
William Durrett-Francis-Simon-William Dawson-Luther (removed to Tennessee)
William Durrett-Francis-Simon-William Dawson-Francis (removed to Tennessee)
----
Benjamin Benedict-removed to who came to Marion County, Oregon
---
John Durrett from Bedford County, Virginia -Richard-Richard-John (Virginia)
---
Richard Durrett-Capt William-Richard (removed to Missouri)
Richard Durrett-Capt William-Henry (removed to Kentucky)
---
Franklin H Durrett-William Darius-William Thomas
---
Francis-Thomas-Joseph Francis-Andrew Jackson
Francis-Francis III-William-Robert

To place an order go to:

https://www.familytreedna.com/order-form.aspx?ty=121&Gro...=

Please contact me before you place your order, so that I can help you participate in this scholarship.

We now have proof through DNA testing that Bartholomew is not from the same line/branch as Richard Durrett who married Sarah Marshall.

Our desire to finally learn where these early Durrett men belong and what families they belong, too. To do this we need more Durrett men to do DNA testing. By going to the link below you will see what Durrett lines have been tested.

Go to http://www.worldfamilies.net/surnames/durrett/results

Look at the Yellow color Francis Durret and lt green color is Bartholomew Durrett are one branch

And Orange color is another branch which includes
Richard Durrett b. c 1712 Spotsylvania County m.
Virginia Durrett

On the 1900 census, I have a Virginia Durrett living with my great great grandparents (Henry and Mahala Miller). It list Virginia as a sister-in-law to Henry. It also shows her as being widowed, married in 1857 and was married for 43 years. She was born around 1842. I'm wondering who she was married to, if she is Mahala's sister or Henry's brothers wife. Any information would be great.

Hi Alvie

What are John Frederick Dorman doubts of this relationship?

Richard Durrett Jr. who married Elizabeth Davis did NOT marry Sarah Hampton. Richard Durrett's father married Sarah Hampton. So which Richard Durrett are you taking about?

There are more than one Richard Durrett's in the Durrett Family all born or died around the same time period. So please put the date of birth (When and Where) and death (When and where) of the Richard you are looking for. So that I can be sure I have the right Richard.

Richard Durrett JR's father Richard Durrett Sr. died 8 Oct 1784 in Albemarle County, Virginia married Sarah Hampton.

Then their is Richard Durrett Sr who died 4 Jul 1767 in Spotsylvania County, Virginia and he married Sarah Marshall. They to had a son Richard, too. But I don't know who this Richard married.

Which one of Richard Durrett JR's and Elizabeth Davis children does the person you are helping connect to?

Are you trying to connect to the Hampton's or the Durrett's?

You can email me at jmdgenealogy AT yahoo.com

Thank you.

Joy Durrett
I am helping someone try to get membership into the Jamestowne Society through the Durrett/Hampton connection. I see lots of statements that Richard Durrett married Sarah Hampton, dzughter of William Hampton of Caroline County, VA but no one can offer any sort of proof of this connection.
The Jamestowne Society will only accept documents. Even John Frederick Dorman, the dean of VA research puts forth some doubts of this kinship.
Any help is appreciated.
Alvie L. Davidson
Lakeland, FL

My great grandfather's name was Raymond "Dock" Durrett (1833-1957). His father was Anderson H. Durrett (1833). The other headstone I found says Anderson H. Durrett, Jr. (1857-1887). I'm assuming he was AH Durrett's son. I do know that Raymond Durrett was the youngest of several children of AH Durrett, Sr. Was just curious if AH Durrett, Jr. ever married or had any kids. He was only 30 years old when he died.
