James Nelson DYE, 1880 Pleasants Co., WV

I'm looking for information on James Nelson Dye. I believe his surname at birth was not Dye. In the birth registar for Pleasants Co., WV, page 68, entry #187, shows a James N. Wells born on 4 March 1880 to Nancy J. Wells. The space for a father's name is lined thru and the birth was reported by the mother Nancy Wells. This is the only place the name James N. Wells is found. When Nancy married H.(Hiram) N. Fast on 22 July 1882 she used the name Nancy J. Wells. Other information found in the Wirt County WV marriage registry book, entry #36 for 1882 shows she was a single woman, born in Wirt County and currently residing in the county. I have eliminated the second Nancy Wells who appeared in Pleasants Co. during this time as the mother. I believe James to be the illegitimate son of Nancy and possibly fathered by one of the many Dye males in Pleasants Co. at the time. Oral family history says his father did when James was very young but no death is found in West Virginia. Does anyone have a clue as to James' father?

I have been doing this for along time also, but I have a Sarah Dye that lived in North Farnham Parish VA and had an illegimate son Thomas Dye in 1721. I feel her father was a THOMAS Dye who was a neighbor of CHARLES BARBER SR.
But I have no proof, so I was wondering if this was the same SARAH Dye you list as Martin Dye's daughter or if it is the SAME THOMAS DYE, I have never seen proof of any child except ARTHUR AND his son AVERY.
My grandmother was Ellen Beatrice Dye and grandfather was George Walter Whitely. Havent gotten far on the Whitely side other than Georges parents were Robert and Sadie and had 4 children together but must have divorced and Sadie remarried to a Thomas Shea and had 3 more children. I got more on the Dye side but havent come across any evidence of Cherokee descent as of yet. I also have heard through the family grapevine of there being Cherokee heritage on that side of the family. I guess check my tree on what I have so far and let me know if you can add anymore.
