I am actively searching for the Dimmock history, which also goes back to Nicholas Dimmoch. I had just one date for him with that being 1220. Your dates of 1150 to 1245 sound better to me. I have read that the Dimmoch's came to England with King William I (Conqueror) and received land from him for their service. The location for where they settled in England appears to be around the Scrivelsby area . I am now trying to trace the family back by looking at all of King Williams daughters to see who they married.

Hi, I don't think Nicholas de Dimmoch was Henry Dymokes father. Nicholas was born about 1145/1150 as he was mentioned in the Pipe Rolls of 1169 as owning about 1 hide (100 acres) in Gloucester. Nicholas would have been born over 100 years before Henry. (could have been his ancestor?) Caroline

I have been searching for several years for a mother and daughter in the USA who are looking for relatives of their Dymock ancestor in Scotland. He had come to the USA via Canada and from what I can read in this thread, those looking for relatives in the USA and looking for the same person. The mother's maiden name is Dymock.

Please, if you could send your information (names, dates, places, etc) to me directly, I'll try to see if we can get everyone together. In the meantime I will be going over my past correspondence and try to get all the bits and pieces of information together.

Sarah McCray
Dymock Message Board Administrator
saramac@windstream.net

Had a typo in my previous message.
In 1880, Caroline is now going by the "McIntosh" surname, NOT McIntyre.

Also, does anyone have any information on what happened to William Dymock (b. abt 1855 in Ohio to George Dymock and his first wife). He came to Utah with his father and was living in the St. Johns, Tooele County, Utah household with his father George Dymock and wife Caroline in the 1870 census at age 15. Did he marry and have any children?

Re: George Dymock

My son-in-law, Ryan Dymock, is descended from this same George Dymock. I've been trying to help him with his research.
George Dymock had a son William Dymock, aged 15 in the 1870 Census, born in Ohio (according to that census). In 1870, George Dymock is married to Caroline in St. Johns, Tooele County, Utah. His son, William Dymock, (from his first marriage) is with them. Others in the household are Caroline's children from her two previous marriages and also George E. Dymock, aged 1, who is the son of George Dymock and Caroline.
By the time of the 1880 census, George has abandoned the family and the only ones left in the household are Caroline (now back to her previous surname of McIntyre) and her son George Dymock, aged 10, (who the census takers have listed as "McIntosh".)
We are interested in utilizing the new DNA testing for genealogical purposes, to see if any men with the Dymock surname (or variant spelling of it) might be willing to participate and see if we can find a connection to a Dymock ancestry by matching DNA with another Dymock family. I wills start a new thread and see if anyone is interested in establishing a Dymock Y DNA project at FamilyTreeDNA.
My son-in-law is a candidate for this project, as he carries the Dymock surname and the Y chromosome that the mysterious and missing George Dymock passed down to George E. Dymock (b. abt 1869) and he in turn passed it down to his male offspring, and so forth, down the the present day.
I can be emailed directly at:
clarkRN@msn.com
Thank you,
Laraine Clark

Ian,

Thank you, Thank you! Any information would be appreciated.

My 3g-grandfather Robert Dymock was married in a village called Carnwath, according to the IGI at familysearch.org.

Robert Dymock (b.1803 d. 1876 ONT Canada)
m. Ellen Newbigging (b 1803 d. 1892 ONT Canada) in 1829 in Carnwath, Co. Lanark, Scotland.

I believe they left Carnwath between 1837-1842 and moved to Kilmeny. Then immigrated to Elgin County, Ontario Canada from Scotland in 1852. Robert's grandson William, my g-grandfather, immigrated to the US in 1907. William changed the spelling from Dymock to Dimeck when he married my g-grandmother, Catherine Walsh in 1910.

I have additional information on Robert Dymock's descendants at http://www.mydead.com/
(Look under "People")

Best Regards,
Cheryl Strange-Laetsch
Grass Lake, MI

Hello! Your DYMOCK names look very similar to mine. Lots of Hellen's, Nellie's, and William's. My DYMOCK line immigrated from Scotland to Canada in 1852. Some members immigrated to Detroit in the early 1900's. My gg-grandfather was William Dymock, b 1888. He immigrated to Detroit in c1910 and changed his surname spelling to DIMECK.

Please contact me if you are interested in exchanging information.
