My Great Great Grandfather was Hubbard and Priscilla Ramsey.
My Great Grandfather was Robert Charles Ramsey and his son was my grandfather John William Ramsey. I was wondering wher you might have gotten the names of all of the children of Hubbard and Priscilla. I have only been able to find two. I went to the Cumberland Cemmetery in Mississipi and found Hubbard and Pricilla's names on the Church records. I also can not find where Robert Charles and his wife Nancy Corley were buried. I noticed alot of Earnest on the same coummunity page where the Ramsey family lived. How are you related?

...i know this is a reply to an old post...but, in case of future researchers...i have added to find a grave the following Earnest graves that i found the tombstones for in Merriman Cemetery in Ranger, Eastland Co.,Texas

Dr. M.O. Earnest B: 2 Mar 1870 D: 23 Sep 1907
(from your post i assume the O is for Ott)

Ada Earnest B: 28 Aug 1992 D: 29 Jan 1918 wife of Dr. M.O. Earnest - (from other research this is Dr M.O's second wife Ada Hannah Bollinger d/o Daniel Benjamin Bollinger and Sarah Elizabeth (Clubb) Bollinger)

Zoe (Hazard) Earnest B: 26 Mar 1878 D: 24 Aug 1902 wife of Dr. M.O. Earnest (from death date we can infer this is Dr M.O's first wife)

Dr. Thomas J Earnest B: 21 Jun 1862 D: 13 Jul 1932

Cora Earnest B:14 Oct 1878 D:4 Nov 1910 wife of Dr Thomas Earnest

Notes from other research:

on Herman M Earnest B:3 Aug 1905 D: 28 Nov 1949 death certificate (Dallas, Dallas Co.,Tx) his mother is listed as Cora Duncan and father Thomas Earnest

on Dr Thomas Earnest's death certificate (Spur,Dickens Co.,Tx) he has remarried after Cora's death to an Ethyl (madien name unknown)

Kay thank you for the clue that Dr M.O.'s name is Ott, and that his and Thomas's Father is Henry Clay Earnest and Mother Mary Melton...i will start researching that now...

...Michael Hoover...

I am also a decendant of Indian Eve through Johannas Earnest, oldest son of George and Elizabeth Samuel Earnest. Johannas' father was Henry Earnest. He was killed by Indians at Fort Bedford, Pa. in the autumn of 1777, his wife was Eve Earnest who was captured at that time along with the babies Henry and 2 yr.old Mike. George, Johannas, Mary, and Jacob escaped.

There is a book entitled "Indian Eve and her Descendants" written by Mrs. Emma A.M.Replogle, published in 1911 by J.L.Rupert from Huntingdon, Pa. There are also books available at the Messiah Church where Indian Eve is buried in Bedford, Pa., the phone # is 814-623-0390.

Please, let me hear from you.

Suzi Good Castellano
Hello!
I cannot help you with the Earnest side of the family, But, I think I am related to Mary Aletta Highfill Earnest. If it is the correct Mary Aletta Highfill, Her mothers name was Laura Richey and her fathers name was John W. Highfill. She supposedly was first married to a Charles W. Wallace in 1921 and supposedly had one son by him. She was the only daughter of my Aunt Laura who had one brother Walter Richey who married Anna Marie Richter in Calhoun County Illinois. Laura died when Mary Aletta was a toddler and she was raised by her grandparents Walter and Anna Richey. I cannot find where or when she married John William Earnest or what happened to Charles Wallace. Did he die or did she divorce him? But, I believe she has to be the same Mary Aletta Highfill, because she is the only one that comes up when I search and Aletta is not a common name.

Your postings could shed light on this mystery. My late great Grandmother Elizabeth ( Earnest ) Rodeheaver was from the Johnstown , Pennsylvania area and was a child witness to the 1889 Flood. The name is the same and thus the potential connection. Find out if there is any connection to Elizabeth ( Earnest ) Rodeheaver in your records.
brucerodeheaver1@yahoo.com

When searching the internet for Love Life adoptees I noticed you had Lisa Wessinger listed as a LL adoptee. My husband and I adopted our daughter through LL and recently reunited with her birthmother. Would you please let Lisa know that I have a facebook group for LL adoptees, birthmothers, adoptive parents, and their families? It is for those who are searching, those who have already reunited, those who are waiting to be found, and those who simply would like to connect with others who have also been touched by Love Life. I also have LL contact info if Lisa wishes to initiate a search for her birthmother. She can email me at this address or find me on facebook by typing in Karen Hutchinson Mozingo. I would love to talk to her if she is interested, but if she is not I will respect her wish to not be contacted. Thanks so much in advance.

It's been 3 years, and I haven't found much that is new, except I have been able to find my grandfather's great-grandfather, William S. Earnest (1851-1932). Married to Louise J. Fine (1852-1937). Now, I'm also trying to find info on William's dad, Thomas Earnest. I have no birth or death years, but it's safe to assume he was born during or before 1830, since he had a son in 1851. William lived in Hawk Point, MO. There is at least 1 census that indicates Thomas was alive in 1870.

I do have that information and tree from the web on Eva Catharina Hillebartin. None of the trees out there show down to my Jacob Ernst of Somerset Co PA died 1874 and who his parents were. Therefore I have a dead-end at his line.
I do have a copy of a piece of paper that the Bedford Co Historical Society/library had in there collection and has my Jacob's name on it and that of his daughters including Christina Ernst whom married Moses Bittner my 2nd G Grandmother. So someone had some information at some point.
Maria E. Brower

You might be the link that I have been searching on the Shull family line.

My ex-mother-in-law, Martha Jane Shull Horner Benna, of Bedford, Pa claims her Shull family is related to the Mitchell family (New Paris) and they somehow descend from the Indians. Martha is 87 now and doesn't remember how the connection or where the connection is.

I never heard her say they were related to Indian Eve, but it wouldn't surprise me.

Are you related to the Hillegass families from the Schellsburg area? They are related to Eve through her brother's family.

Yes, the name of the book is Weird Hauntings, True Tales of Ghostly Places compiled by Joanne Austin Indian Eve is on page 168-170. I bought it before we went to PA and took it to show to my family in PA. Try and search in Google and you can read the pages. It also gives the directions to the cemetery on p. 170. We were at the cemetery during the day and didn't see any ghosts. I have volunteered at our historical society's Firehouse #1 Museum for the last 5 years and it is said to be the most ghostly place in Nevada City, CA. I guess ghosts don't appear to me.

Sandra,
I live in California-was born and raised here. My daughter and I were in Bedford and Somerset Counties last September when we visited Indian Eve's grave and the churchyard. I probably won't be able to get back for several more years. I have never met any other desendents of Indian Eve.
I would appreciate any information you may have on my Jacob Ernst, and who his father might be it would be eternally appreciated.
Do you know there is a book about ghosts that has Indian Eve in it?
Maria

Hi Maria,

Tom Imler has Eve as an Imler, this is not true. My presentation will talk about who the real Indian Eve really was.

Hope you can make it.

Sandra Kring Leonard

I descend from Indian Eve through her daughter, Mary. I am giving a presentation on Indian Eve on August 19, 2010 at the Blair County Historical Society at 7:00 p.m. This is in Hollidaysburg, PA.

I gave this presentation to the Bedford County Historical Society and many who descend from Eve came and we all chatted afterwards.

I don't know where you live, but if you are near Hollidaysburg, it might be worth you while to come to the presentation. You might meet others who also descend from your Jacob Earnest there.

Sandra Kring Leonard
