Re: Mississippi Earnest

My grandfather was Jesse Lee Earnest. He and his family are from Chickasaw County. A fire destroyed many of the records at the courthouse. i do know that he was born 'on the boat' relocating from Germany. The original spelling of our name is Ernst. A few vowels were added when he was born. I would like any information about any possible relations in MS or AL. I am new to this, so any information would be appreciated. Thanks.

My 4th G Grandfather, Jacob Earnest/Ernst descends from Indian Eve. I do not have proof of which child of Indian Eve he descends from but it may be Jacob. I have seen trees out there that show a Jacob with a son named Jacob and no additonal information on him. I suspect this may be my Jacob.
Anyway you can find him on the 1850 Census living in Southampton Twp, Somerset Co, PA. I have a copy of his will and I descend from his daughter Christina (Lina) (she married Moses BITTNER) I am trying to find who his Jacob's sibilings were and prove his parents.I have recently purchsed the book sold by the Bedford Co. Historical & Genological Society, They Planted a Tree in the Wilderness by Thomas C. Imler.
Maria

I am puzzled. In the 1850 census records that I have found, J. C. Earnest is in Neshoba County, MS with Delphia (not Dorcas) and M. A.C. age 6 and Ann, age 3. Elizabeth Earnest is living next door. This is my husband's line also and an older aunt who would have been the granddaughter of Arminta Earnest Hunt told me that Arminta's parents died and she went to live with an aunt. She was in the household of John Chamblee in Leake Co. Does anyone have a copy of a marriage record of J. C. Earnest? It will probably be in Kemper Co. or Neshoba Co.

Hi, just found this message on the board. I'm from Susan Elizabeth Tatum's daddy line, and I was filling in some of our other families. Just wondering about John R. Earnest side also, do you know where these people are buried. I know some are buried in Liberty Cemetery in Dallas County, Missouri, but it didn't say anything about J.R , Mary E. and do you know who Maude C. married.
Their sister Mary E. Earnest is buried in Harmony Cemetery, Dallas county, Missouri.

Thanks in advance, Cindy Sue

I'm from Rev.
Do you have any information on jacob being in the leather business?? I see that a person of the same name was first issued permission to use a lot in the new town (1810ish) of Clinton, Jones Co., Georgia. (the town of Clinton was first to be called something else but finally changed to Clinton). It was common for someone to come from Edgefield, S.C. into the new lands of Georgia. I believe this is why you do not have any other info on Jacob. Moving out on the Georgia frontier at this time is hard to trace. Jacob sold the Tanyard land almost as soon as he got it (about 1810 or earlier) to a John Cooke. Neither of these men seemed to have been the builders of the Tannery there. This seemed to have been acomplished by John Jones. All these men may have known each other back in S.C. This was quite common on the Ga. Frontier. It was also quite common that these settlers were from Va. Jacob may have lived in Baldwin Co., Ga. or Jones. Co., Ga.

If anyone is still watching this list I am looking for information on a Telitha Earnest from Alabama who Married a John Parker also I think from Alabama. I do not have the birth years and only have her Death year of 1909. The death certificate says she died of Jaundice and I believe she had Malaria. John and Telitha had at least 4 children Tandy Jack, Martha, Christopher Columbus, and James Martin Parker. James Martin "Mart" was my great grandfather, he was murdered sometime in the summer of 1919 or 1920, according to my grandmother his daughter who was about 7 at the time. Any help at all locating any of these people would be greatly appreciated.

My Christopher Columbus is a Parker, but they may be related I will look at them in the census. Names like these as I am sure you have found were common and I hope I can find him in a census together with Telitha listed as a sister, she was born in Alabama in 1841, if I connect them I will let you know. Could you please list the record you found him in first to give me a starting point. Thank you

I don't know if we are related, but I am of the Earnest family of Mississippi. My father was JC Earnest, his father and grandfather both were George Green Earnest. My grandfather was married to Liddie Walker and they had 7 children. Amon, T G (Thomas George), J C (James Clifton), Waddie, Lovie, Lorene & Lillian all of Mississippi. My sister and I live in california and are also looking for relatives. My family moved to California in 1956. You can contact me at stanley.hopkins@comcast.net or the other email that shows on your system if this is any use to you or maybe you can help us with our search.

I have some confusion about the Earnest family. I know that I am related to a Martha Malinda Earnest born 1830 in Monroe County, Tennessee. Parents are John Wesley Earnest (1796) and Nancy Anne Ramsey married about 1820.

The confusion begins here:

1) John Wesley Earnest married Mary Payne in 1819, Serre Dubose in 1819 and Nancy Ramsey abt 1820. I am not sure of the first two marriages.

2) I have John Wesley Earnest born in 1796 to Lawrence Earnest and Rebecca North or to Felix Earnest and Sara North.

3) I think John Wesley is son of Lawrence, son of Henry, and son of Felix.

Any information you can provide on my wing of the family would be useful.

Thanks

Jeff Weiss
jconradw@aol.com

I am trying to find out if there is a connection between James Wilson (1742-1798), the signer of the Constitution, and my grandfather, Thomas William Earnest. The furthest back my records go are his parents, John William Earnest and Mary Aletta Highfill. As far as I can tell through research, the best avenue would be through James' wife, Rachael Bird. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!
