Thanks! Let me see if I have this right: Josiah Earp (1761)>Phillip (1797)> Singleton (1824)> John S. (1846)who had a brother, another Phillip Hawker (1860)>Singleton A.?
Good grief! I thought most of the confusion was between my great great grandfather John S. Erp who lived and died in Illinois and the John S. Earp who died in Phelps, Missouri. My John S. Erp and his descendants are left off most Earp family trees and as a relative newcomer to family history I was seriously confused for some time. Do you know the origin of the much used name "Singleton"? Thanks again. Pam

Actually, one line goes like this...Josiah (1761), Philip Hawker (abt 1797), Singleton (abt 1824), Philip Hawker (1860) brother to the John you listed, Singleton A. (1886). So the name continued for some time.

There are TWO men named Singleton Earp and each had a son named John S.! Phillip Earp did have a son named Singleton (born in 1824) and this Singleton had a son named John S. Earp. Phillip's brother, also named Singleton (born 1802)named one of his sons John S. Earp. The two lines look like this: Josiah>Phillip>Singleton>John S. AND the other line goes Josiah>Singleton(1802)>John S. Erp (1846).
It will take several months to transcribe all the states.

1st you need to state a time period.

Then a DOB + birthplace.

Then WHO did she marry ???????????
Need 1st names of any children......

My email is judy . Earp at gmail . com judy.earp@gmail.com Please contact me off board.
Yes, the Sutherland's Hotel is where the Lamar Trust Bank is now.
My mother's family (Gardner) is related to the Medlins. I don't think the Sutherland's were though, although if both families were there at the same time, it's possible.

You are right, I forgot how they spelled "Isenhower" without the E in front. I moved away from Lamar in 1981, and now I live in Independence, Mo. I go home quite a bit to see my other family members, and I do now remember the lumberyard burned down a few years ago. I never did know there was a different hotel in Lamar on the NE side of the square, (so I was referring to Traveler's Hotel in error, in my posting as you had stated.) Was the Sutherland Hotel where the Lamar Trust Co. now is? Or, across the street where back in the 70's the Medlin family had a Discount store? I guess you don't remember me. If you are the same Judy Earp, you were friends with my sister, Colleen. I was a year younger than you guys. Your family had several stores also in Lamar, right? Colleen and my mom thought one of your stores was where Lamar Trust is now. Is that correct, or not? On the same side of the square was Medlin-Frieden's Furniture store, which at one time was ran by the Parks' family, (Deana was in my class.) The corner across from the bank on the other side was Medlin Discount Store, (Debbie Medlin was also in my grade in school.) Do you have any information on Urilla Sutherland? We had some Sutherlands in our family tree, but I haven't found much information very far up the line. Where have you heard she was buried? I have heard of two different places. Well, hope you are doing fine!!

You got your hotels mixed up. I believe you are referring to the Traveler's Hotel. The hotel the Sutherlands owned was on the North-East side of the square and was torn down long before the 80's. The traveler's hotel was just off the South-West side of the square.
Isenhower's lumber burned down a couple of years ago. It is not spelled with an "E". I grew up in Lamar, MO.

I haven't been doing any research on Ancestry.com for a few years, however I need to correct a posting I had made that someone brought to my attention. There was a Lumberyard in Lamar by the name of Eisenhower's not Sutherlands's. There are Sutherland Lumberyards all over Missouri, and one around 13 Miles north in Nevada, but I have no knowledge of them being connected to Urilla Sutherland. There was a Hotel in Lamar for many years which was torn down in the early 1980's. I was told it was owned by Urilla Sutherland's family many years ago. I remember going inside it when I was younger. It was the largest building in town, and had a lot of rooms. I remember the dark red carpet which looked like Satin or Velvet and using a restroom upstairs. We often ate breakfast before school, or lunch there in their restaurant. There was also another big dining area. I guess I just got mixed up with the name Sutherland, and I said lumberyard, but meant to say Hotel.

Even if you looked at 'Henry' rather than 'Harry' which is often the case the Commonwealth War Graves Commission have no record for him. There was a Harry Eaton Earp who lived in Atherstone that died but his parents were Thomas and Amelia E. Earp.
Are you unable to find him in census' after the war then?
Katie
x

This tree seems to have him, but with a birth date that contradicts the one you give and no sources:
http://records.ancestry.com/William_Earp_records.ashx?pid=15...

It looks like the right guy, though, you'll probably want to look directly at the census records to see who has the better birth date estimate.

John Earp was James Elbert's grandfather and Edward Earp was James Elbert's 2nd great grandfather, John Earp was James Elbert's 3rd great grandfather, William Ballenger is James Elbert's great grandfather,, Thomas Earpe, his 5th great grandfather, John Earpe his 6th great grandfather. Do you happen to have any information on any of these. I'm just starting to do the Earp Family Tree.
Daniel Earp, Wesley Earp and Elizabeth Earp Henderson

I attend a little church that was founded in 1822 - Ruhamah Methodist Church in Starr, SC in Anderson County, SC. My mother was a Rainey and John Rainey was one of the founders of the church as was a Daniel Earp. Starr is across the river from Hartwell, Ga. ( actually there is a lake there now) THere is a graveyard on the grounds of the church- All of my immediate family are buried there as well as many ancestors. David D. Earp DOB 1795 DOD 1861 is buried there. He was married to a Margaret Phillips. Since most of the gravestones in tha section are just stones it is hard to tell if she is buried there or not.

Wesley Earp is also buried in the graveyard and has a rather tall stone- It is hard to read now but I have read it in the past( anyone know how to clean gravestones) His stone mentions that his funeral was widely attended by many and that Revalation 21:? was what was preached as his funeral. He was a minister at Ruhamah. His wife was Mouning ? . She is not to my knowledged buried there. they had one daughter- because on her tombstone it says- the only child of Mourning and Wesley Earp. Her name was Elizabeth Earp Henderson consort of James Henderson. She died on Dec 31, 1834 at the age of 17 years and 1 day- she died in childbirth or at least complications soon after- I will explain that down a little. It also said that she found religion 11 months prior to her death and another more interesting line is that " she was now far from persecuting tongues" must have been bad if it was put on her tombstone. next to her is buried her son who died at 4 Apr 1835 aged 4 months and 7 days. His name is James Wesley Henderson. Her husband James Henderson is buried at Roberts Pres. Church which is about ten miles up the road from Ruhamah. Ruhamah was where camp meetings were held back in the mid to late 1800's.

Another jsut odd thing- wesley Earp's tombstone has three bullet holes in it. The ferry used to be located somewhere below Ruhamah is located- When Hartwell Lake was built the road was relocated- This ferry crossed the Savannah River which was a wide slow moving river- Anyway a drunk was coming up the road and it was a moonlit night. He thought the tombstone was a man and shot it three times.

I found Stonewall Earp, born about 1893 in Tennessee, in the 1910 US Census. He is son of Henry Claborn Earp, born about 1850 in Coffee Co., Tennessee. Henry Claborn Earp is the son of Jefferson Earp, born about 1804 in Georga. This is my line of Earps. Hope this answers your questions.

The boy looks to be about 12 to 15 years old and the bike seat comes up to his waist. I would think the photo was taken in Nashville, TN because my grandfather (who was born in 1894) was living there when he was that age but it could have been in Selma, AL also. If you think you know who this boy is, please let me know. Sorry I don't have that much information.

I ran across a number of spellings (Traywick, Traweek, etc), so it's definitely changed a lot.

My Earp line, the family of William Earp (ca 1729-ca 1778, an ancestor of Wyatt Earp for what it's worth) is in Maryland rather than North Carolina in the 1760's and 1770's. However, William's brother, Thomas, moved to North Carolina and raised his family in Granville County, which borders Wake County, where Milberry Earpe married John Trawick. The connection may be there, but I can't guarantee it. It might be worth looking into.

Off-topic: I'm curious about the name Trawick, do you know the origin of that family? It sounds Cornish, maybe a variant of "Treweek" or "Trevethick." I've got some Treweek in me on a completely different side of my family.
