I'm looking for information on Harry K Easter (b. 30 Sept 1899 in Clay City, Indiana). His father (Thomas Melville Easter) died the same year he was born. His mother remarried to Edgar Wallace. I found him on a 1920 census living with his mother and Edgar. But can't find him since then. Looking for some information on this relationship. Thanks!

Okay, I've found information that Margaretta Easter's father is John Easter who was born in 1801 or 1802. I found this 1850 Census that Margaretta has a brother John: https://familysearch.org/pal%3a/MM9.3.1/TH-267-12387-167812-.... I'm thinking this may be the same John Jr.?

Can't remember my sign in info as eeaster 150 but for what it's worth, I did the African Ancestry DNA test on the paternal side of my father, Theodore Easter. The results govern the men of the family. In other words - my father, his father before him, his father before him etc...

While most DNA tests do not come up with a clear group of people or location, this was a rare VERY clear match to the Ewondo people of the Yaounde area of Cameroon in West Africa.
Would be very interesting for other A/A Easters from Emporia to do their DNA test and see if they get the same results. FYI - Only men can be tested for paternal DNA and maternal. Women many only test the maternal side.

A lot of the Easter's aren't Easter's but are Oster's. Most of the PA, MD, OH, IN, IL IA and some WV Easter's are descended from Johan Wilhelm Oster that arrived in Philadelphia in Nov 1740 from Germany. They began americanizing the name to the English Easter in the late 1700's and early 1800's due to anti-German immigrant prejudice. Not all of the Oster's did this, but my line did. I actually have to maintain two DB's to keep the real British Easter's separate from my German sound-a-like ancestors.

Thank you for responding to my query. Charity Easter was my gggrandmother. Thomas Easter, her husband, was born in Virginia sometime between 1823-1828. This would be too early for it to be your grandfather. They married about 1845. Place unknown. They had their first child, Reuben Easter, in 1846. They came from Missouri with the Peters Colony to Texas as early settlers obtaining 160 acres of land in Grapevine, Tarrant, Texas. The name "Espen" is a misread of the census and is actually Easter written in old script. I would be so happy if you have any information on either Thomas or Charity. I don't have her maiden name. She may have been Indian. Not proven.

Obituary: Philip Sheridan Easter, Buena Vista, Ohio (1867-1942)

I’m posting this obituary in case someone may need it. I do not know the family and have no other information on this family.

The Portsmouth Times, Portsmouth, Ohio
Sunday, March 29, 1942
P. S. Easter
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 3 p.m. at Buena Vista Methodist Church for Philip Sheridan Easter, 75, retired Buena Vista postmaster, who passed away Saturday shortly afternoon in Mercy hospital after a 10 day illness. The last rites will be in charge of Rev. Linton Mattox of Pedro, former Buena Vista pastor. Burial will be in the family ? at Sandy Springs under the direction of Kress. Mr. Easter, taken ill suddenly on his birthday, March 17, was critically ill from the start with complications and a heart condition. He was in a coma part of the time at the hospital. Philip Sheridan Easter was born in 1867 at Levanna, Brown County. Soon thereafter the family moved to near Rome in Adams County and a couple of years later to Sandy Springs, where Mr. Easter spent the remainder of his life. His parents were William D. and Margaret Jones Easter. The father served throughout the Civil War and fought under Generals Sherman and Sheridan but preferred General Sheridan and named the son for him. Mr. Easter served as postmaster at Buena Vista for 25 years and was retired about two years ago on a pension. Although he gave up the postoffice duties Mr. Easter retained his general store business and remained on the job there until he was stricken. For some years Mr. Easter served as clerk of the township school board. He had been a member of Buena Vista Methodist church since a boy and served the church at a trustee. He also was a charter member of the I.O.O.F. lodge there and remained a member until it was disbanded several years ago, when he transferred to Scioto lodge, Portsmouth. He held a life membership for being a member more than 50 years. If he had a hobby, it was being a baseball fan. He was an ardent rooter for the Cincinnati Reds. Mr. Easter was from a family of five boys and three girls. Four brothers and two sisters preceded him in death. His wife, Mrs. Sophia Boehm Easter, passed away Sept. 8, 1933. Surviving are the following children; Mrs. Sadie E. Miller, 503 Waller Street, Mrs. Anna R. Harrison of Anderson, Ind., Harry D. Easter, 1514 Third Street, Ernest W. Easter of Buena Vista; a step-daughter, Frances Hensel, of Arcadia, Ind., and a sister, Mrs. Ella M. Ryan, of Market Street. A son, Edward, died in infancy and a son, Walter J. Easter, died Dec. 31, 1939. Thirteen grandchildren also survive. The body will be at the home of the son, Ernest Easter, of Buena Vista, where the father had made his home for some years.

Note: parts of the obit were hard to read.

There are MANY African American "Easter's". As a matter of fact...we just had our Golden Jubilee-50th Anniversary this past July. If you go to www.easterfamilyreunion.com you will be able to see over 100+ Easter's, their locations as well as pull down the Easter family tree. I think you will find it enlightening.

Mishajuana Easter-Selamo
