You are correct that William S Eaves and Bartlet Yancey Eaves are brothers and sons of Graves Eaves II. However, with the EFNA DNA testing we now have proof that Burrell Eaves, David/Davis Eaves and Thomas Eaves are also sons of Graves Eaves II. Rhoday Eaves, and Buckner Eaves are RELATED to each other BUT NOT TO Graves Eaves II. We have had DNA testing done on descendents of both Rhody and Buckner and there DNA does not match to any of the descendents of Graves Eaves II. We are currently working to try and find the common ancestor of Buckner and Rhody.

Hopefully with the traditional research that we are doing and the DNA testing we will eventally find the common ancestor for those two.

My 4th great grandparents were William S. and Susannah Hampton Eaves. According to my records William (born 1750) and Bartlett Yancy (born 1765) were brothers and children of Graves Eaves II born 1718/1724 in Northumberland County, Virginian, and died 1810/1812 age 92 in Rutherford County, North Carolina, and Nancy (Martha?) Yancy born 1729/1736 in Hanover County, Virginia, and died 1810/1820 age 81 in Rutherford County, North Carolina.

William and Bartlett's other siblings were; Rhody (1753), Burrell (1754), Elizabeth Nancy (1756), Graves (1758), Jesse (1759), Jonathon (1761), Buckner (1763), Davidson (Davis) (1767), and Solomon (1775).

Again according to my records, Bartlett Eaves was born in Granville County, North Carolina, in 1765, and died after 1831 in Perry County, Alabama. In 1790 he is listed in the Rutherford County Census and purchased land there on Nov. 2, 1792. He is also listed there in the 1800 Census. In the 1830 Census he is in Marengo County, Alabama, along with Abel Lewis and Jesse Eaves. Then it appears that he is in Perry County, Alabama, with his wife Charity Berryman Lewis, born 1769 in Georgia, and she died between 1843 and 1850 in Perry County, Alabama, at the age of 74. She was the daughter of Abel and Charity Berryman Lewis. Bartlett and Charity were married about 1783 in Rutherford County, North Carolina, and had the following children; Nancy (1784-1802), Graves (Perry?) 1786-1836), Talbott (1788-1800), Abel Lewis (1789-1854), Howard Harvey (1790-1865), Bartlett Yancy (1792-1848), Jesse Berryman (1798-1858), William Burrell (Burwell?) 1798-1858), and Charity (1800-1879).

Much of this information was given to me by Glenna Kinard and Glenda Jensen back in about 1999. I do have much more on the Eaves Family if you a interested.

Please let me hear from you.

Rufus Buie
rufusbuie@tds.net

Hello Kelly,
My name is Ronnelle Eaves Blankenship. I was a first cousin to Cheryl Eaves Briggs. Did you know that she passed away? My father was a brother to Cheryl's mother Betty. I was named for Cheryl's grandmother, Ila Mae, (my first name is Nila) and so was another of our cousins (first name Ila).

I have been working on Ancestry for about a year and a half. Aunt Betty's family is the last one I am entering, because they always lived so far away. I came upon the posting that "Cheddy" did back in 2004 and your conversations with her at this site. You may have had other communication with her through e-mail. I was so surprised that she was not aware of the situation with her father until she was eighteen. I can tell you that we were more aware of her father's employment. From what my parents told me, he did not work for TVA.

I am not sure if you are still active with Ancestry; however, if you are, I would like to exchange some information with you.

Roni

Yes I am a direct descendant of St. Clair Eaves.

Here is a full write up on him...just scroll down the page. Its from the history of kentucky book.

http://www.tngenweb.org/giles/history/bios/anderson.html

Read this and it may clear up some things. Are you saying that all the "John S." names were "smith"? Are you sure? My grandfather's brother's name was John St. Clair Eaves.

The write up says St Clair was the son of George W. Eaves. How do you know his middle name was "Washington"? Here is a write up on George Eaves:

http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~kygenweb/kybiog/muhlenberg...

In the above it says John S Eaves Sr. is from Brunswick county, VA.

I think George had a brother (or son?) named "charles" who was a judge and John S is mentioned here too:

http://files.usgwarchives.org/ky/muhlenberg/history/1913/ahi...

Either way I can see that John S Eaves Sr (1783) was from Brunswick county and Rutherford, NC). I also note that my Grandfather (William Mcnary Eaves) lived in "Graves County" Ky.

I might be making assumptions but when I read through this web page it spells it out for me....
I believe that John S Eaves Sr. moved to Ky in 1805 and was the son of Graves Eaves II or William Eaves (Graves Eaves son).

What do you think? I was considering getting the DNA test.
http://www.evere.co.uk/eavespage/files/jeaves.htm

Based on information that I have, St. Clair Eaves line goes as follows

St. Clair Eaves
George Washington Eaves
John Smith Eaves Jr.
John Smith Eaves Sr.

So far I have not been able to connect John Smtih Eaves Sr to William Eaves & Susanna Hampton.

Also I am confused on the question as to why St Clair persists in Ky/Va Eaves line???? There are several Eaves that left NC and some went to TN, some to SC, GA, AL, MS and on to TX and LA.

Are you related to this EAVES line?

Elaine

The first mention of a John "S" Eaves (which I assume is St.Clair) is the son of Susanna Hampton and William Eaves (middle name?). The first Eaves is Williams Father, Jon.

Anyone have an idea? There has been a John St. Clair ever since until my Grandfather William Mcnary Eaves had no son.

It just seems rather significant...and a part of lost family history.

I'm looking for any information on William Eaves, engraver - printer, in New York from 1851 to late 1860's. There's a listing on Ancestry.com re an 1859 Bible belonging to William Eaves and Jane Holmes of Birmingham, England and later in Connecticut. This is the Eaves I'm doing research on and would love to locate that bible and possibly purchase it. Does anyone know where it is?

Please contact me regarding any information you have on Robert "Jack" Eaves. I cannot find him anywhere. My grandmother is Helen Irene Eaves. She is one of the daughters of Stephen Early Eaves and his second wife, Rosa Lee Smith. The whole reason I started the ancestry thing is for my grandmother. When she was born, her father was in his 50's and only lived til she was 19. She never really knew her "half siblings" she met General B. aka "GB" once when she was 5 or 6. Her and her brother Stephen Willie Eaves knew there were 2 boys, GB and Robert but since I have been unable to find any info on Robert I assumed she was just foggy with her memory. They always speculated a girl, and turns out there was... Maggie D. Eaves. Is this your grandmother? She might not have ever even known she had half siblings but she did... 1 brother (Stephen) and 2 sisters (Leola and Helen). Please please get in touch with me, my email is lindseyleighw@gmail.com my grandmother would love to know more about her half siblings and potentially her father Stephen as well. She never knew him well or his side of the family.

My brother-in-law has had DNA testing and we have found that we are part of the Gaves Eaves family. His grandfather left home at age nine as his "father" did not want him. Obviously, his father was not his biological father. He lived on various farms and raised himself in the area around Calhoun County, Alabama.

Rita,

Kind of a late reponse here (12 years), but I did finally get this sorted out. My grandfather Julius was born 1895 as Judson J. Eaves in Haralson County, GA, and later moved to Calhoun County, AL (Gwin Street in Oxford). I have no idea why the name change, but my father (Judson's son in law) confirmed it.

Once I got that figured out, everything fell into place.

His great-grandfather Ledford Bailey Eaves lived in NC before migrating to GA.

Mark

Pardon me getting back to you after 11 years! I finally learned that Judson Julius Eaves was his full name - and he did live in Harelson County, GA and Calhoun County, Alabama. According to the census records, his children were Elsie, Agnes, Janie, Vell, Julian, Porter, Celest, and Cleo.

I seem to vaguely recall an Aunt Cleo, but can't really be sure, as its been so long. Joyce Eaves was my mother and I remember all of her brothers Lamar, Harold, Curtis, and Julian I think. We used to go down every year.

I'm sure there must be some relation between our families - because they were in NC before Georgia. And my mother used to talk of a land grant from the King of England way back when.
