Edmund Eccles of Whittingham, died Sep 1803

I am looking for the parents of Edmund Eccles, who was a Husbandman of Whittingham near Goosnargh in Lancashire. He died in 1803, leaving his wife, Sarah nee Kitchen and Ten children: John, b1792, d1816 (mother's name Jane Simpson); Jane, b1794; Hellen, b1795; Mary, b1796; Thomas, b1797; Margaret, b1798; Edmund, b1800; Joseph, b1801; Robert, b1802; Peter, b1804. He married Jane Simpson on 1786 in Chipping and Sarah 'Sally' Kitchen (previously married to James Slater)on 1793 in Goosnargh. The family was of the Catholic faith and I believe he could be related to Thomas Eccles who founded the church at Lee House, Thornley. His first marriage gives his abode as Chipping and I believe he most likely is descended from the Eccles of Birks in Thornley, Lancashire.

James J Eccles

Hello, I posted and been involved with ancestry for many years. I was succesfully able to trace my Eccles name up to 1843/44. From James Edward Eccles to James Joseph Eccles, whom was born in Ireland and as of 1930 census, lived in NJ. I see there is a James J Eccles, one whom died about 1856 and another born between 1842-1845. I am trying to determine if this one, that everyone is discussing here from a 10-12 year old thread is the same as my paternal GGgrandfather. Does anyone have any documents of information? The James J Eccles that I am related to is born Feb 27 1891 in Newark NJ. I see 2 positive James Eccles, same birthday but 2 years apart (1890 and 1891), At first I would assume it must have been same family, but after further investigation, it appears that it was just very coincidental. I have positive records of the one born 1891 and that the 1930 US Census places his father, James Eccles, at his home at age 86. ANy information is very appreciated.

Hi Alistair,

I need your help! I believe I have a connection to the Scottish Eccles but am struggling to make a definitive connection. My Peter Eccles was from Ireland b. 1811. I believe him to be related as a brother to Charles Eccles b. 1795 married to Roseann "Rosey" McClusky who eventually settled in Scotland. I realize that you have not focussed on the Irish line very much but I wondered if you had ever crossed paths with Peter Eccles as described above? Thanks, Tim Eccles in Kansas

Hi Col.

This is a copy of a reply I made to one of your other posts...

Hugh Eccles was my great (x3) grandfather and I've managed to dig up a mountain of data (documents, photos) about him on many of my trips to London on business. Hugh was born ~1827 in Armagh, Ireland, married Elizabeth Saltmarsh and Frank was one of his 6 children.

Frank was born in Westminster, London on 15 June 1858 and died in Sydney on 15 May 1890 (yes, very young), but not before fathering 5 children. Hugh stayed in England, dying in London on 22 January 1887 (retired Superintendent of the Met Police).

Email me at alanrh@me.com (updated address) and I'll send you a copy of all the data I have, including a .gedcom file of that part of my lineage.

Hi Shona
I have just come across an entry in the Ballantrae Marriage OPRs for the death of a William Eccles who died on Tuesday 26 September 1844 in Ballantrae. This is may well be your relative and is probabaly quoted in the Marriage OPR as the death occurred relatively soon after his marriage to Janet Millar in 1838.
I am researching the Eaglesham/Eglesham/Eaglesome family from Ballantae as well as William Davidson a Hand Loom Weaver from Girvan who married Jean/Jane Eglesham/Eaglesome/Eaglesham in 1843. They are are my GG Grandparents and I came across this lone death entry for William Eccles when looking at the OPR entry for their marriage.
Similarly I know that my GG Grandfather, William Davidson, died sometime between 1846 and the 1851 Census, leaving Jean as a widow, probably in Girvan but can find no definite record as death records appear to be non existent for Girvan for this period. However finding your death for William Eccles in this way gives me hope that it may be recorded, perhaps in the Girvan Marriage OPRs.
I hope this information about William Eccles helps you as I know how frustrating it is when death records are not available!!!
Elaine

Ralph Richardson Eccles b1855 in Darwen, Lancashire

Ralph was the son of Richard Eccles and Hannah Richardson and was a stonemason. He married Susannah Marsden in 1876 and they had a daughter, Hannah Ellen in 1877. However by the 1881 census the marriage was over, although there was no divorce, and Susannah and her child had moved back to her parents home while Ralph was living with two of his sisters. He does not appear in any later census or death records and a note in the corner of an old family tree simply says "Left his wife and went to Africa". He does not appear on any passenger list from any port to any country so he must have left the country before 1890. Can anyone enlighten me please?? Jean

One of the witnesses on the marriage record of Charles T. Boyd and Sarah Spidel Lawhorn was a Drake Spidells.Sorry but that's all I currently have info wise. Let me know if you think there is a connection. Just as another weird note - my first married name was Hewitt.

I know your post is over 7 years ago, but I'm hoping you will get this. I am interested in Henry Eccles of Coles Co, IL, since my gr-grandmother, Sarah Ann Drake, was in his household at the age of 14 in 1850. Family story has it that he or some family member was her cousin. (Possibly Elizabeth Ewing.) She supposedly stayed with them after her mother's death, and even after her father's remarriage.
Bill

I believe we are related. My great great grandfather was Edward Coyle married to Rose Callery. He was born in 1841 and I believe Rose was born in 1846. They were married on Nov. 28, 1865 in Cavan. Marriage records just show their fathers names were both Michael. They moved to Scotland. My great grandfather Michael was born in 1868. They lived in Leith. Census records show her brother Philip living with them in Leith. Michael had 3 siblings I am sure of. Margaret, Rose Ann and May. There were others. You show Margaret married to James Callery. Is he related to her mother. Michael married Mary Ann Milligan. My grandfather Edward married Euphemia Barnes Anderson.
You may email me at tomlinj@persona.ca.

Eccles Grandfather

I have every main piece of my roots traced on both sides of my mother and father etc...

The one piece I have been stuck on is my mother's father(My Grandfather)

His Name was Delbert Eccles born in 1895 in Hood River, Oregon. (a bit older than my grandmother who was born in 1919)

His 1st wife was named Anna Eccles(couldn't find the Maiden Name)where he had 4 children.

He then married my grandmother around 1945 and had two children my mother and her brother.

Ancestry shows his WWI and WWI registration records and a 1930 census of his previous family, however the problem I am having is trying to find any of his siblings and/or parents.

Ive been lucky enough to find all of my fathers side through the 1000's and the rest of my mothers side, and this last piece would put the entire map together.

Hi Jill,

I have an old family tree that ties a John Eccles to an Ann Ferris (from Antrim). their children were william (unmarried), Jeanie (Spinster), Robert (Doctor in Liverpool), john and Charles (who married an A. Halliday).

Sadly this is the extent of my records and keen to find more.

I would expect this family to be circa mid 1800's.

Regards,

Adrian

Hi Tony - John Eccles/Jane McCleery are my husband's great grandparents. John was born in 1834 and his father was also called John, so I think it's likely that Mary was sister of the younger John and daughter of the older one. Have you any more information on her or her family?

Hugh Eccles was my great (x3) grandfather and I've managed to dig up a mountain of data (documents, photos) about him on many of my trips to London on business. Hugh was born ~1827 in Armagh, Ireland, married Elizabeth Saltmarsh and Frank was one of his 6 children.

Frank was born in Westminster, London on 15 June 1858 and died in Sydney on 15 May 1890 (yes, very young), but not before fathering 5 children. Hugh stayed in England, dying in London on 22 January 1887 (retired Superintendent of the Met Police).

Email me at alanrh@iinet.net.au and I'll send you a copy of all the data I have, including a .gedcom file of that part of my lineage.
Hi there...I think I might be able to help you out a little bit here. My great-grandmother's brother was John Crook Eccles (b. abt 1890)to Alexander Eccles (1867-1918) and Isabella Crook (b.1867). He married Julia Sarah Thomas (b. 1894) in Holborn, Middlesex in 1918. He was actually born in Blackburn, Lanc. and immigrated to Canada in 1919 as my great-grandmother Agnes Mary Eccles was already living there.

The 2 children, Isabel (b. 1919) and Alexander John Eccles (b.1921) were born in Ontario and Julia didn't like living in Canada so much that when she went back for a visit in 1924, she never came back. (must've been a bad winter lol)

I would love to find out what happened with that side of the family. As far as I know, John Crook Eccles remarried and moved to Ottawa ( I'm still trying to figure all of that out)

I really hope you get this information, or that you already have it. I'm attaching a coupld of pictures for you.

Take care!

Richard Eccles - Philadelphia

Hi...I am hoping someone out there recognizes this fellow.

Richard Eccles:
Date of Birth: 16 Oct 1884 (Most likely in Philadelphia)
He appears to have worked as a machinist and as a carpenter.

In 1904, he married Isabelle Pennman. They had a number of children, only two of whom survived past infancy -
Joseph b. 1909 (Phila.)
Mary b. 1911 (Phila).
Early in their marriage, they lived on Helen St. and later moved to Cheltenham (City Line) Ave. in Oak Lane.
Isabelle also had sister, Jean Pennman Taylor who lived with them for a time when single and died in 1922.(Buried in North Cedar Hills Cemetery.)

In 1927, he married Jennie McEwen McDermott. She had a son, Francis "Fritz" from a previous marriage to my grand uncle - GU died in 1925.
They lived on Cheltenham Ave.

Best I can tell, Mary married a man named William A Anderson, in Philadelphia in 1930.

Joseph, I haven't yet found in 1930...

By WWII, Richard was living on Dungan St. in Philly and working in Nicetown and Mary was living on Lambert St., also in Philly. (according to his WWII paperwork.)

If any of the members of this family sound familiar to you, I'd love to hear from you.

Thanks,
Joann Taylor
