I am great great great grandson of James Edgerly who started the Edgerly Funeral Home, Rochester in 1839. Started as a carriage making business with his two sons Thomas Tash Edgerly & Royal M. Edgerly. Later the business bacame a funeral home and Thomas went on to do something else, I think politics or a judge of some sort. Now the funeral home is run by me Morgan Edgerly of Strafford NH.

I have copy of Edgerly coat of arms as used by Greater Milton family. It was given to my grandfather Weeden by an English Edgerly, who lived in NY in1930's. It was this man who gave him the pedigree we have, although it is not proven. He said likely father of Thomas Edgerly, immigrant to NH, was Francis Edgerly.

Oops. Apparently,I can't read these geneology pages all that well. We're actually a generation apart. Your grandfather, John, was my Mom's brother. Mom was a very late-in-life baby and most of her sibs were grown and out of the house when she came along. Sorry for the mixup. I just spoke with Mom, and she asked whether your Mom, Agnes, was still alive? -- Jon

Well, hello Cuz! We're pretty closely related, as a matter a fact: first cousins. My mother, Ruth (still alive at 88) is your father's sister. If my notes are right, your dad, John Howard Edgerly, was the 5th child of Hubert and Agnes, b 1904 and d 1969? Mom was the 10th and last child, b 1923. I have a ton of geneology info if you are interested. From your email name (patdutile), you must be Patricia Dutile, b. 12-29-46, daughter of Agnes, about a year younger than me. Feel free to contact me at either hounjonlon@aol.com or grabmeister@aol.com or 310-454-0872.

I believe that I am, as that is what I was told by family members several years ago. My mother said that my aunts hired a detective who then reported this information.

I was adopted at age eight and took the last name Johnson, but never lost touch with my biological family.

My birth name is Christopher Jacob Manley, and I was born to Donna M. Edgerly and John Manley. My grandfather's name was Charles E. Edgerly, who was raised in Hell's Kitchen, Brooklyn, New York, served in the US Navy during WWII, was decorated for valor, and became a New York City police officer upon his return home. He managed to work his way up the ladder to an undercover detective (first class, I think), and he handled cases concerning the Mob/Mafia. Ultimately, I am told, this caused him to be sucked into questionable involvements with the mob. I am told he was involved with the Serpico incident, and moved to Vermont shortly after an honorable resignation, despite the questionable involvements cited above. This is what I am told, but I have yet to verify it myself and it may very well be inaccurate.

The detective, I am told by my mother, traced our ancestry back to Mary, Queen of Scots, including King James the First, of England.

There are two photos of my Grandfather and Grandmother attatched. They are both deceased.

My father was Buford Edgerly born in 1903 in Wisconsin, his dad was Floyd Edgerly born in Illinois he died in 1960 in Wisconsin. I'm a 9th generation Edgerly. I'm trying to fill in some branches of the Edgerly tree, can I get info from you? I already have 2 branches from Thomas Edgerly 2nd son Samuel, and Johnathon his 3rd son.
Re: Thomas Edgerly Timeline 1665 to 1715

73

EDGERLY, JUDGE THOMAS, 1635-1715. He
was received as an inhabitant in Dover, at Oyster
River, 19 January, 1665 ; took the oath of fidelity 21
June, 1669; made freeman 15 May, 1672. In 1665, he
began to serve on the grand jury and served in that
capacity many times ; it was then a very important
office. When New Hampshire became a separate Pro-
vince, Mr. Edgerly was appointed one of the Justices
of the Provincial Court, consisting of Captain Walter
Barefoot, Nathaniel Fryer, Henry Green, Peter CofRn,
Thomas Edgerly and Henry Robie. In 1684, Rev.
Joshua Moody, minister at Portsmouth, was arraigned
before this court for nonconformity, in that he refused
to administer the Communion service for Governor
Cranfield in accordance with the Ritual of the Church
of England. After hearing the evidence the Judges
debated the question. A vote was taken ; two voted
for conviction — Barefoot and CofRn ; the others dis-
sented. The next morning the court convened and the
case was reconsidered ; outside influence had induced
Green and Robie to change their opinion and they
joined with Barefoot and Coffin, condemning Mr.
Moody, and he was sent to jail, where he was confined
for three months. Judge Edgerly was cashiered by
Governor Cranfield, for his courage in standing by Mr.
Moody; he was restored to office after the Cranfield
government went to pieces. He was deputy to the con-
vention of 1689, held for reorganization of the govern-
ment. In July, 1694, his garrison was burned by the
Indians, when the awful massacre took place at Oyster
River. He was taken prisoner, with his son Joseph
and daughter, but they managed to escape, and soon
returned home. His garrison was on the shore of Little
Bay, near Durham Point. He was married by Capt.
Richard Walderne 28 Sept., 1665, to Rebecca, daughter
of John and Remembrance Ault ; she was the widow of
Henry Halloway, at her second marriage.

Children: (1) Thomas, b. 1666; m. Jane Whedon

The Edgerlys of Gilmanton New Hampshire

I'm looking for the Edgerly that lived in Gilmanton New Hampshire. I've traced the family from Carrie Edgerly (b. 1863) to her parents Asa T. Edgerly (b. 1827) and Hannah D. Moulton (b.1827). Asa's parents were David Edgerly (b. 1792) and Sally Tilton (b. 1796). David's parents were David Edgerly and Ann Lougee but from there the trail grows cold - I can't find their dates. All of the preceding names lived their entire lives in the town of Gilmanton, but I'm not sure about David and Ann and don't even have names for farther back.

Can any one help?

Thomas Edgerly of Dover, NH - did he emigrate to Barbados?

Was Thomas Edgerley of London, brasier, who was bound on 5 July 1659, to John Walter to serve four years in Barbados our New Hampshire ancestor? An earlier cited person, Giles Chandler of London, brasier, was also bound to a John Walter of Bristol, cook, for four years in Barbados on 2 July 1659.

Accordingly, I encourage all Thomas Edgerly researchers to review any/all emigration records from Barbados to USA as well as any Edgerly records in London and/or Bristol, England.

[Source: Peter Wilson Coldham. "The Complete Book of Emigrants. 1607-1660" Baltimore, MD: Genealogical Publishing Co., Inc. (1987). See page 425.]

Thomas Edgerly Birth Date - 19 March 1644/45 ??? in London ???

I have noted that several Thomas Edgerly family researchers have provided a specific birth date for Thomas, or 19 March 1644/45, or 19 March 1645. Some have further indicated that his birth at this date took place in London, England. Unfortunately, none of the researchers have provided a source for either.

Can anyone provide a source for either data, the birth date or birth location?

There's an article on Webster Edgerly and the "Hidden History of Ralton Heights" (in New Jersey) in the May/June 2004 issue of Archaeology magazine. It talks about his connection to the Ralston-Purina Company, as well as some of his unorthodox views. He told his followers that if they followed his principles, they could learn, among other things, telepathic powers. He was also a racist.

I have no connection to him, just thought someone might be interested.

Brenda Rigby
i found that if thomas edgerly was 16 years old when sailing the ship in 1630 so if so he would more than likely have been born in 1614/1615
but the only problem is that he would have been 62 years old when joseph was born. which is unlikely.
so if the birthdate of thomas 1614/1615 is right then one of the children's birthdate has to be wrong.
i will keep searching.

faith triplett
Yes we have chased out heritage to Thomas edgerly arriving in June on the Ship Arabella part of Winthrops fleet of 1630. I have seen two differnet dates of death for him, on in 1644 and another in 1715 (he would have been 100). My father was born illigitimately to C. Wilson edgerly 1888-1931, and Inez Gertrude Howard on 04 October 1906. Mr Edgerly got married subsequently to Elizabeth Litchfield, and Inez Married Herbert A. Clark in 1909. Are we relatives?

Rocky Clark
