EDGERTON, Bradford (1769-1813) & his descendants

Searching for descendants of Bradford Edgerton, son of Elijah and Bethia (Munsil) Edgerton.

I'm a descendant of Bradford's son, William Edgeton who married Wealthy/Welthy Mudge. Note William (and his brothers) dropped the "R" from their last name. Bradford's male descendants are difficult to prove because of the change in the last name spelling.

Would appreciate hearing from anyone who descend from the same lines or if anyone knows of any birth/marriage records for Bradford Edgerton's children.

Carol (McEntyre) Thompson
email: carol@mcentyrefamilyproject.org
website: www.mcentyrefamilyproject.org

Indiana Edgertons and Native Americans (Miami)

It seems that almost every family has one of these stories, and I'm sure many are apocryphal, but discussing this with a cousin, this one seems as though there may be something to it.

Our grandmother, Lura Leota Edgerton (1900-1976), supposedly had Miami Indians in her ancestry. According to one version of the story, she had "almost enough Indian blood to get her Indian rights." I have no idea what exactly "Indian rights" might be; the right to live on a reservation?

I have a picture of her parents probably taken sometime in the 1890's and neither of them looks strikingly Indian. Her...ummm, maybe. Him, not at all:

http://www.wikitree.com/photo.php/9/9a/Edgerton-123-4.jpg

You can enlarge that several times by using ctrl+ (Windows, anyway).

They are Will Edgerton (b. 1867) and Mary Oden (b. 1868)

Will's ancestors are here: http://www.wikitree.com/genealogy/Edgerton-Family-Tree-123
And Mary's are here: http://www.wikitree.com/genealogy/Oden-Family-Tree-46

Does anybody know anything about Native Americans in those lines? I've yet to find a single bit of solid evidence to support the family stories my cousin and I both heard growing up.

Fred Remus

Thanks for the information about creasor.com I will spend some time there. My grandmother's name was Ida not Lola. That confused me when I saw it come up on one of the family trees. I know she had a hard life and was sent to an orphanage. Probably when her father passed. Both of her parents were so young.

Perhaps I'll get the hang of this in a year or two. There are so many threads to my family that it takes a lot of time.

Thanks again for the information and your help.
Hello Fran,
I saw you saved a couple of records that I had saved on Elizabeth Jane Creasor & Wm Edgerton. I looked at your tree and then read you query. I don't know if you have ever seen a website called creasor.com but it has lots of information on the creasor family. Ida is in that tree as Lola Ann Edgerton.
Elizabeth would be a great grand aunt of my husband and Ida a 1st cousin 2x removed.

Today I finally discovered something on Ancstry.com but it appears to me...that Lark J and Church J Edgerton might be one in the same. She passed away in 1920 when my father was 2yrs old. Were not sure but we think her name was Gather or Agatha Roberson. Im not sure of her race but Im pretty sure that she was black or half black. She passed away in NC 1920 or 1921. Ive heard that she had a sister named Magnolia or something that sounds like that.Possibly, a sister named Lathela whom also married a Roberson, and a brother that they used to call Pink. Last known address was in East Rutherford NC.The Roberson brothers are native american. Anything sound familiar please let me know.

I can not find any info on him at all and Mom is now passed away so no answers there either. I know he died Dec. 5, 1954 and from what I gather he was in his 60's or 70's when he passed away. I anyone runs across this name could you please let me know. Thanks so much for taking the time to read

hi penny
thanks for getting back in touch. i belive that w edgerton was his son who ran the bird in hand and then brought the royal oak which still stands today. i can only assume that maria took on the horns inn as she had prior knowledge of the industry from great wyrley. incidentally my mother lives opposite the royal oak and her father knew that somewhere in great wyrley his ancestors had a public house. we are not sure as to how long maria was married to john ward and why she reverted back to edgerton but we seem to think that john ward was known to the family at some time earlier. also but it may be just coincidence my mothers grandmother was an emily ward and her husband was william george edgerton

Hi Maurice [the email address didn't seem to work]

Unfortunately, my links with the Edgerton family are only tenuous. Maria Edgerton’s second husband seems to have been John Ward [a blacksmith from Boningale, Albrighton], who was my great great grandmother’s brother, hence my interests are in the Wards rather than the Edgertons !

Thanks for getting back to me though !

Penny
Hi Karen
A Maria Edgerton married a John Ward [a blacksmith] in about 1877. He was a widower with 2 children. He died the following year and she seems to have reverted by 1891 to using 'Edgerton' as her surname again. She is named as his widow on the probate entry. In 1881 a Maria Ward is listed as a ' licensed victualler' at the Horns Inn, Boningale, Albrighton.
John Ward was the brother of my great, great grandmother – Mary Ann Ward.

PS:
In the 1834 Parish register for Great Wyrley: there is listed: a Edgerton W. - vict. Bird-in-Hand – presumably an ancestor ?
Not sure I can help too much. It gets complicated so I will try to keep this very terse
Charles Edgerton marries Sarah Harrison (1766) Chidren are ... John/Charles/Sarah/ Thomas
John Edgerton marries Ann Walker (1793) Children are William/Thomas/Mary/Sarah
William Edgerton marries Maria Harvey (!817) Children are... Mary/John/William/Charles/Maria/Henry
John Edgerton marries Mary Stockton (1838)
This family tree from there extends through a William to the present day.
Their present day descendants are Kathleen and Peter Edgerton. I believe they are in New Zealand
My family tree branched off in a different direction in 1796
Kathleen and Peter in New Zealand would probably be better placed to help.

Hi

I am trying to trace my Ward ancestors. I can find a John Ward who married a widow - Maria Edgerton [born 1836 in Sherriff Hales, Staffordshire] - in 1877. She had been married to a John Edgerton who died in 1877 aged 41 in Penkridge. They had several children, John A, William G, Annie M, Lydia B. After John Ward died, Maria seems to have revertred to her first husband's name, Edgerton. In the 1881 census, she was the licensee of a public house: Horn’s Inn, Boningale, Albrighton. Does this ring any bells ??

I would be very pleased to hear from you.

Best wishes

Ida Ann Edgerton from British Columbia, Canada

I'm looking for information on my maternal grandmother, Ida Ann Edgerton, born 1 Jan 1882 in Ontario Canada, I know for certain she was orphaned at a young age, and had a sister named Jane, who lived in Vancouver British Columbia. Her father's name may have been Leslie Edgerton. However, Ancestry.com sent me a copy of the 1891 Canadian census listing a widower,William Edgerton, with a 9 year old daughter,Ida Ann,and three younger children.None of the siblings were named Jane. The time frame and area where they lived in 1891 did seem logical. No one ever talked to me about relatives. Any information or suggestions of where to look would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Fran Smith, email address is fran@cruzio.com
