Hi! I emailed you at the address you gave, but will also try contacting you via the board. We are researching the people who served in the military from the local area, including Llanishen, and have found a Charles David Edmunds from Llanishen. Do you have any info/pics of him that you might be willing to share? Thanks.
Linda and Peter

No, I have not heard about Queen Victoria Edmonds...

We were always told that we were of Cherokee indian heritage as we were growing up tho. I have not been able to prove that. My grandfather Harry Cleveland Patterson was born in Marshall Co., Alabama (I think probably somewhere near Guntersville).

I know we are related, one way or another to LaFarletts, Edmonds, Hardins, Parcus, Williams, Powells, Russells and more.

I will see if I can find anything on Queen, do you know a year of birth and where she was born?

Barb.

Marcia,

I see that your great grandfather was Brice Edmond A. Edmonds.

His wife was Chilnessa Patterson, his sister-in-law was Priscilla Patteron LaFarlett (Jeremiah LaFarlett). I believe Chilnessa and Priscilla had a brother, John W. Patterson. At this point in my research I believe that John W. Patterson born abt. 1822 Tennessee was my great-great grandfather. John's son was also John W. (William) Patterson born either 1845 or 1850 in Alabama or Tennessee (depending on which census you are looking at). John William Patterson married Mary Jane Williams in Lincoln Co., Tennessee in 1872. They had children: William Alfred M. Patterson/Wiliam M. Alfred Patterson born 1872 in Fayetteville, Tennessee. He married Margaret Lucinda Hardin (daughter of William Maxwell Hardin 1852) in about 1890-1891 in Marshall Co., Alabama. James M. Patterson born about 1877 (drowned in the Tennessee River in Marshall Co., Alabama), John Tillman Patterson born 1879-1880 Lincoln Co., Tennessee (married Carrie Belle Yates about 1910 in Milam Co., Texas), Dora Beatrice Patterson born about 1886 Alabama (married Wallace Holloway), Eliza Effie Patterson born abt 1884 Sommerville, Alabama, (married John Ellis Griffin). And my grandfather Harry Cleveland Patterson born 1891 Marshall Co., Alabama (married Alma Jane Brown in 1916 Milam Co., Texas).

Strange thing was on my great aunt Eliza Effie Patterson Griffins death certificate it had the last name Edmonds as Elizas mother maiden name instead of Williams. I am in the process of trying to find out why an Edmonds was listed as her mother. I know we would have been related to them but not like that.

Barb.

The Edmonds I am talking about are Brice A. Edmonds and Chilnessa Patterson Edmonds.

On the 1860 US Census the were living Tract7 range 3 East, Marshall, Alabama. Post office was Cottonville. They had John Patterson 35 and Mary E. Patterson 7 living with them.

Also on the 1860 US Census in the household of James Edmonds (Brice and Chilnessa's son I think). South Eastern Divison, Madison, Alabama.....is John Patterson 8... I think he is possibly the son of the John Patterson 35 in Brice and Chilnessas household same census year.

On the 1870 US Census, Township 4 Range 3, Jackson, Alabama. Post office Scottsboro; household of Phillip Pritchett (Priget) is a John W. Patison (Patterson) 19. I think this is probably the same John Patterson who was 8 in the household of James Edmonds in 1860. (Phillip Pritchett married Charlotte "Lottie" Patterson, daughter of John Patterson and Nancy ?.)..I believe Lottie was Phillips 2nd or 3rd wife.

On the 1870 US Census; Subdivision 44 Township 7 Range 2, Marshall, Alabama. Postoffice Kennamer, household of Brice Edmonds and Chilnessa Patterson Edmonds is Mary Patterson 16...same Mary Patterson that was in their household in 1860 I believe.

On the 1870 Census where you find Mary Patterson 16 in the household of Brice and Chilnessa Edmonds...that same page has Mary Williams (my grandmother was Mary Jane Williams)....lived in the household of William Maxwell Hardin 1826. In abt. 1890 my greatgrandfathers (John William Patterson) and greatgrandmothers (Mary Jane Williams) son William A. M. Patterson/William M. A. Patterson married Margaret Lucinda Hardin b: 1875 Guntersville, Marshall Co., Alabama daughter of William Maxell Hardin b. 1852 (son of William Maxwell Hardin b 1826). William and Margaret married in Marshall Co., Alabama abt. 1890-1891.

1880 US Census District 22 Lincoln Co., Tennessee...household of John Pattersn 25, are Mary J. Patterson 32, William A. Patterson 4, James M. Patterson 3, John T. (Tillman) Patterson. These are my great grandfather John William Patterson, his wife Mary Jane Williams Patterson, sons William Alfred Patterson, James M. Patterson (drowned as a young man in Tennessee River in Marshall Co., Alabama), and John Tillman Patterson 6 mos. (I believe they have John Pattersons age listed wrong in this census).

1900 US Census; Justice Precinct 2, Milam Co., Texas. In the household of John Patterson...are Mary, Tildem (John Tillman) (married Carrie Belle Yates),Liza (Eliza Effie, married John Ellis Griffin), Dora (Dora Beatrice, married Wallace Holloway), and my grandfather Harry (Harry Cleveland, married Alma Jane Brown). William and Margaret Lucinda Hardin Patterson lived close by. Strange thing is on Eliza Effie Patterson Griffins 1942 Satin, Texas (father John Patterson, mother Mary Jane Williams), death certificate has her mothers maiden name listed as EDMONDS instead of Williams.

My grandfather Harry Cleveland Patterson was born in Marshall Co., Alabama 1891 died 1960 San Angelo, Texas.

Hope this is not too confusing.

Thanks, Barb.

s

Not sure if we are distantly related but I am related to Harriet Wiegand (nee Knight/Knecht)(b.1877)who had a daughter Etta (b. 1897)who married an Abernathy. They had a daughter Elizabeth J. Abernathy who married a Neil Guy Edmonds from what I understand. My great grandmother Elizabeth(Knight/Knecht) was Harriet's sister. ELizabeth died after giving birth to my grandmother. My grandmother was raised by Harriet's parents Kaspar and Catherine (nee Weyll) Knecht. If you think there is a family connection please contact me as I would be interested in sharing any information.

Alabama 1891).

The strange thing in all this is on my great-aunt Eliza Effie Patterson Griffins death certificate it says her mothers maiden name was EDMONDS (gives no first name)....not Williams.

Have you heard anything about these family members being connected to your Edmonds family? Eliza is born kinda in the middle of the group so seems if ones before her and ones after her mother maiden name was Williams where did the EDMONDS for her come in.

It has been proven by family members that we are related to Priscilla Patterson....there are family members buried in cemeteries around this area.

Thanks, Barb.
I see it has been years since you posted this inquiry, but I wonder what you know now?

I am reasearching my husband's side. He has a great grandmother Anne/Ann Edmonds/Edmunds on whom I can find very little information and absolutely no ancestors beyond her. I have a marriage record of hers to John Ryan, 15 Nov 1890, which indicates "Bride of Burnt Islands." However, I have not been able to find her birth record, nor her death record (even though I have her husband's death record from St. Anne's Parish in Codroy Valley).

Please let me know if you have any info.
Thanks,
Christina

My thought about John H's being the son of Elmore Edmonds and Mary Chambers was wrong. THEIR son, John E. died October 21, 1914 and is with them in Mt. Horeb.

John H. Edmonds, married to Laura Ketner, is the son of Jonathan Edmonds and Laurinda Petty.

Laura died between Sept 1908-1909. John H. was the person responsible for deciding NOT to move her grave from Ailey's up the hill when TVA flooded the valley. I wrote to NARA in Atlanta and found out a few of the "nearest" relatives who made the decisions.

His sister, Rachel Edmonds (m: William Young Fain) was the person who decided NOT to move their father, Jonathan Edmonds.

Thank you so much for this information on the Edmonds Cemetery. I had wondered if Bradley Boren/Edmonds was buried there. I didn't have any idea where he was buried. I had been told that he might be buried in the Jordan Springs Cemetery on Fort Campbell. He was my 3rd gr grandfather through his daughter Mary Lucinda. Do you know much about Bradley or his wife Malinda Jane McCarver? Any information will be greatly appreciated. It has been years since I had visited the cemetery, but I remember several small unmarked stones and Mother and Father foot stones. I think there was at least five unidentified marked graves and possibly more marked with field stones. Thank you again for any added information. As you can see, I don't know a lot about this part of my family.

Albert Edmonds obituary (Lebanon, Kentucky) 1887

From clipping transcribed by Albert Sydney Edmonds in a letter to Mrs. Ethel Crager, Nov. 12, 1937

In memorium.
Albert Edmonds. Born June 11, 1831. Died September 5, 1887

Death has been busy in our midst during the past two months, and many has it claimed for its own; but the announcement of the death of our beloved fellow-townsman, Mr. Albert Edmonds, which sad event occurred Monday night at 10 o'clock, filled every heart with sorest grief and many a tear was shed o'er his bier. About 3 weeks ago Mr. Edmonds was attacked by a painful carbuncle on the back of his neck, which increased in size and malignance until blood poisoning set in, which caused his death - a melancholy event that has taken from our community one of its noblest human ornaments - an honest man. Few, if an, ever suspected so sudden and so sad a result, and the announcement shocked all who heard it.

No man was more justly esteemed and beloved than the lamented deceased; no man's death could be more deeply deplored, and there is a void in the hearts of our people which Time will be slow to fill.

Albert Edmonds was the son of Benjamin and Sarah Edmonds, and was born here in Lebanon June 11, 1831, and was consequently in his 57th year. He was educated at the old brick seminary which used to stand on High Street, where was also educated many our prominent men of today. After leaving school Mr. Edmonds began to learn the shoe business with his father, in which business he became proficient. When the call came for troops in 1855 he was among the first to respond to his country's call, and served in the regular army under Albert Sidney Johnson and Gen. Robert E. Lee. In 1860 he went into the shoe business with his brother, R. B. Edmonds, Esq., in which business he was engaged at the time of his death. He was often tendered public positions of trust and honor, but would accept none, preferring to devote his time to his home and to his business. Mr. Edmonds was twice married - first in 1863, to Miss Sarah Robertson, of Coyla, N.Y., and three children were the fruits of this happy union, when death deprived him of his beloved consort.

On October 13, 1875, Mr. Edmonds again married, his bride being Miss Martha J. Gibson, who survives him, and who, together with the two children born to them and the three of the first marriage, mourn their loss, and in their grief they have the sympathy of all.

The funeral services were conducted by Rev. T. A. Bracken, the pastor of the deceased, in the Second Presbyterian Church, on Wednesday forenoon, in the presence of a large congregation, after which the interment services were performed by the Knights of Honor, of which Mr. Edmonds was a member.

And thus passed from this earth a good, noble man, whose place in the hearts of our people it will be difficult to fill. Peace, blessed peace, be with him.

Update on "Cam" Edmonds . . . from 7 days in the Jefferson Archives.

In July 2011 I went to Jefferson County again and spent 7 days in the Archives. I saw every piece of paper they have on Edmonds, Edmons, Edmon, Edmunds, Edmuns, Edmun, Edwards, etc. There are 16 variations so far.

The only thing new that relates to Calvin (which actually does NOT relate to Calvin) is that James "Cam" Edmonds is NOT James Cameron. He's James Campbell (and also seen as Camel which locals assure me is the way Campbell is pronounced). There are Grand Jury requests for his presence at the courthouse as a juror starting in 1845 and I wonder if an 18 year old would have been called back then. I'm still leaning toward Cam's birthdate to match the 1870 census and not the 1860. There are no boys born after 1825 in Fanny Edmonds' household in 1830.

A claim by Christopher Miller to the Southern Claims Commission had an affidavit in it from John P. Edmonds which confirms that Christopher Miller "is by marriage my uncle." Miller's first wife was Lucy Hall. Cam was married to Delila Hall and John P is with Ann Hall in the 1860 census.

Still no evidence of Calvin in Jefferson County. I think the original premise was wrong.

Shirley

Re: Calvin Charles Edmonds not proven related to anyone in Jefferson Co, TN
Unfortunately what Cora received was a printout from a WorldConnect post of unproven names. NONE of those brothers or the parents or the grandparents are proven. They were all put together by one person who sent all his Edmonds information to his first cousin once removed who put it on WFT. From there Cricket got it and put it on WorldConnect.

Apparently there was no bible or any documentation on the family because THREE FAMALES shown on the 1830 census are never even mentioned.

I think what the original reseacher did was find males in the 1860 census, marriage records, etc. and "assigned" them back to the only Edmonds family in town who had a lot of kids in the 1830. But that leaves out the males who left Jefferson County before the 1850 or 1860 census.

Note there are no males under the age of 5 in the 1830 with Fanny. So that puts Elmore's and James Campbell's birth dates into question. James Cameron is an error. There is no Cameron anywhere in Jefferson (based on 7 days in the Archives in July 2011) but there is a Campbell in Circuit Court Records and "Camel" in county records. I am assured by the locals that that's how Campbell would be pronounced in the area. I have revised all my files and removed Cameron. He's shown as "Cam" on three of this kids' death certificates.

There is no proof Fanny's last name was Pratt. It was a guess because son John Pratt Edmonds had that as a middle name. But he married under the name John Pratt Edmonds, Jr., so wouldn't it be a coincidence that Fanny's last name would be Pratt also.

There is no proof this Calvin ever set foot in Jefferson Co. Same with David.

Calvin's inclusion in this family is based on one illegible death certificate filled out by a non-relative where he says a man's father's name was C****. There is no "L" in the name but I guess it could have been pronounced weirdly back then. Calvin might be from middle TN--Marshall/Rutherford/Henry. See the marriage in 1850 in Henry. Everyone who wants him to be from Jefferson seems to have missed that one.

How many C C Edmonds/Edmunds/Edmons/Edmans were there in those days? See http://worldconnect.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op... Search for Edmonds, Calvin C.

As for George Edmonds and Nelly [sic] Fillis being parents of any exact child is really a long-shot. Everything about this early family is circumstantial and coincidental.

And George he wasn't born in 1770 in London and didn't die 19 Feb 1782 . . . AT THE AGE OF TWELVE . . . like many Ancestry Member Trees say. Be careful who you copy from. There are a LOT of very careless people working on this family and the Ancestry HINTS that pop up as helpers from Ancestry are often just plain stupid. Ancestry even emails them but usually they're people in the wrong state, of the wrong age, married to the wrong person with the wrong kids. But people think that because they came from Ancestry they must be right and accept the hints. There are some people who actually think OneWorldTree only has factual information and would never bother to question who a man was supposed to be married and have 5 children and die at the age of 12.

If you can get to AncestryTrees see here: http://trees.ancestry.com/tree/12454240/person/-164827730

If you can get to WorldConnect see here:
http://worldconnect.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op...

If anyone can prove me wrong on any of this stuff I would love to hear from you.
UPDATE: the "other" John P. Edmonds (1851-1919) is the son of James Campbell "Cam" Edmonds (James Cameron not his name)

and Delila Hall. He's living with his assumed Aunt Ann (m: Wm Chambers) in the 1860 census, age 9. The wife (Mary Ann Reneau) of the John P (1851-1919) is the niece of the wife (Jane Reneau) of John Pratt Edmonds (1803-1885). Mary Ann is Jane's brother's daughter.

Research in Jefferson County Archives in Dandridge in July 2011 found Campbell not Cameron. Also seen in Circuit Court Records as Campbell and some county records as "Camel". Locals assure me that Campbell would be pronounced Camel.
July 2011 discovery at the Jefferson County Archives in Dandridge, TN.

County records show a Campbell and also seen as "Camel" which I am told by locals is the way it would be pronounced and since he couldn't read or write that's the way it stayed.

I am changing the name in my file and some descendats are doing the same never having been shown proof of name obtained from family stories. "What else could Cam be a nick name for?"

James Campbell Edmonds m1: Delila HALL : 5 OCT 1845 in Jefferson Co., Tennessee.
m2: Catherine WHITE 26 NOV 1859 Jefferson Co, TN.

I'm trying to figure out if Delila is related to

1. Anna HALL who married Wm CHAMBERS;
2. Phalby HALL who married George Jackson EDMONDS (alleged brother of James Campbell but of course there's no proof) , then Thomas MOORE, then Vineyard BRIMER;
3. Pleasant HALL who married Sarah BRIMER;
4. Thomas HALL confirmed brother of Phalby.

Delila HALL's son, John P. Edmonds gave affidavit for Christopher Miller's Southern Claims application stating that "the claimant by marriage is my uncle." So it looks like Delila/Delia is the sister of Lucy. PLUS--John P. Edmonds was living with possible Aunt Ann HALL (m: Wm Chambers) in the 1860 census because his dad was newly married to Catherine White so she might be sister also. NO PROOF.

SEE THE CURRENT FILE AT http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&d...
and check back regularly for updates.
Catherine White's first husband was James "Cam" (probably Campbell not Cameron) Edmonds from Jefferson Co, TN

Catherine White was married first to James "Cam" (probably Campbell not Cameron because of my research in Jefferson County Archives July 2011) Edmonds in Jefferson County, TN.

James C. is listed as a pauper in county records in 1870 and received $10 a quarter ($40 per year) for food support that spring.

He died hopefully some time by 1875 because Catherine went to Madison Co, NC and had a son by a neighbor in Feb 1876. (or Feb 1877 depending on what/who you read)

A descendant says that Catherine took the kids to NC because the government (that would be Jefferson County) wanted to take the kids away. They probably wanted to apprentice them out so the county wouldn't have to pay to feed and clothe them.

Hi Gordon... NONE of my Edmonds were born in Faquier Co..It's taken me years to realize that we are NOT connected at all. I've also been through the E:LIAS bit, too.. NO connection to mine. My Benjamin was on the Jefferson Co, VA in 1820, but I found him as the father of and all of my connections I had been working on for many years in the books,"Jefferson County, Virginia 1802-1813 ..AND 1814-1824.. Personal Property Tax Lists".. by Patricia Duncan - 2003 Willow Bend Books. It was a great day for me! He married Mary Decker in Frederick County, VA in 1795. Benjamin and Mary end up in Washington Co, MD in 1850 with some of their kids, but I know nothing else like Where they came from or where they are buried! I think the Edmonds came from Wales but can't find the connection. Benjamin was born in VA CIRCA 1770.. I picked that date because of his marriage date and the birthdate of hiskids. His son, Benjamin, Jr. was born C1795 in Jefferson County, VA and married Sarah Cabel in 1825 in Hagerstown, MD... That's about all I can tell you for now..Bettie

Bettie: You may or may not have info. I need but my ggg-gfather was Benjamin F. Edmonds, born ca/1803 or 07 Warrenton (Faquier Co.) VA. I cannot determine/identify his father/mother but your Benjamin, b.1770, would be about the right age. Others have pointed me toward Elias Edm. but I find no linkages between them. Can you direct me toward your 1770 VA information? Any help would be great!! Th! Gordon E.
