Vt Eldreds Wilbur and Hannah

I am seeking information on Wilbur Eldred and his Wife Hannah Delina (Sp?) They had the following children: Alfred (1842-1884), William (1844-1925), Wilber (1845-?), Huldah (1850-?), Sylvester (1857-1907), and Chester (1859-1901). I have marriage, birth and death certificates for the children but can't find much on Wilbur or Hannah. I believe Wilbur died in 1916 due to old age, but I could be wrong. Does anyone know this line? please email me at princess_of_god_89@yahoo.com
Thanks- Christine

William Eldred b.? m. Anne Lumpkin

I e-mailed some very old contacts regarding this title, unfortunatly they all bounced. If I paste the original e-mail that I send would s.k.s. please feel free to add corrections and/or point me in the right direction.

--message begins---

I am currently looking for evidence of William Eldred m. Anna Lumpkin. I
have failed to include birth dates as that is part of my problem.

I have a copy (transcribed) of a will of Robert Eldred dated 27 Jan 1624 which leaves
200 marks to William. I believe he used this to pay for his passage to
America. According to a book by Zoeth Eldredge he first appeared in USA
in 1635, which I believe makes his birth around 1611.
Now, because no records exist after 1614 for births in Winfarthing I
believe that he was born before this date. I then believe that a
condition of age would not be applied to the will of Robert Eldred is was already aged 24+. Therefore he had to have been born no earlier than
1600.
Therefore William Eldred was born between 1600 and 1611. I believe it
was closer to 1611.

The IGI gives just any date you can think of, and it also give the name
of just about any father you can think of. Whilst Im not a great fan of
the IGI I do believe it gives "pointers", so can not be 100% discounted.

Then there is the Crisman website (www.chrisman.org) which gives a
birthdate of 1622, but it also gives parents as being Thomas and Anna
Watson, when I believe the parents were Robert and Joan (first marriage
Clarke).

Now, Im not asking you to do my research for me but can you offer any
advice on where to look for better evidence? Unfortunately a series of
unfortunate events has led me to losing the vast majority of my work and
I have had to start again the last few months. My starting point being
my rootsweb tree which I have now discovered has been very badly sourced
(inexperience not laziness) meaning it is very hard to follow my past
research.

If you can offer just a little piece of useful advice I would be
eternally in your debt.

-- Many Thanks
Penny Blake
http://pennyblake.99k.org
pennyblake1972@googlemail.com

I'm doing a little digging for someone on this, and found a small piece of info. Apparently in the 1880 census, the son, Elmer Eldred was living with his mother Lucy and stepfather Joseph Holland in Arlington, Van Buren County, Michigan. So it at least looks like by 1880, the father may have died. Makes further research a little more difficult. There was the confirmation that the fathers birth place was PA, and Elmer's birthplace was OH.

Thank you for answering this post. Could you tell me where you found the GENEALOGY OF THE PELTON FAMILY OF NEW PORT R.I. The reason I was asking the question of where she obtained the information that Peleg buried amongst her relatives was from Greene Co. Ny was because there is a huge mass confusion about two people and my 4th g grandfather is in the middle of it. I also have secondary sources stating that Peleg Eldred buried in Choconut, Pa Cemetery lived in Greene Co. Ny. She is saying that the Peleg Eldred in Cato cemetery is from Greene Co. Unfortunately one is right and the other is wrong. Since I am searching for the primary sources for George Eldred of Coxsackie, Greene Co New York, I have come across a lot of information pertaining to Peleg of Greene Co. It is thought that the brothers of Peleg Eldred buried in Choconut Pa. are Daniel, Humphrey, George and Zephaniah Eldred with their father and mother being John and Huldah. The problem comes with Peleg’s age and known wife of Sarah Wilson. I know from deeds, tax records and census reords that the Peleg Eldred in Greene Co can’t be that of Peleg, son of John and Huldah buried in Chocconut Pa. because this Peleg’s wife is named Esther and he seems to be slightly older born in the 1770’s not 1780’s. I know there a two Pelegs for there is a head stone of both of them in their own perspective cemeteries. If you have any information on the family of the Peleg that you mentioned I would greatly appreciated any additional help, for I believe my George might be the brother to the Peleg you mentioned and I’m trying to prove it with primary sources. Thank you much, sincerely Jon Eldred

Dear Jeanne,

I found a message that you posted about the Eldred family. I am the daughter of Marcel Heffron, who was the granddaughter of Benjamin Eldred and Mabel Cushmeyer. Bejamin was originally married to Sadie O'Connor, but they were divorced and he later married Mabel Cushmeyer. Marcella Eldred is my grandmother.

I am curious to know if we are related or if you have any additional information about the Eldred family.

I attached you message below that I found online and am wondering if we are connected in some way.

Re: Benjamin Eldred/Margaretta Weston of Long Island NY
Jeanne_Jain (View posts) Posted: 26 Oct 2009 12:24AM GMT
Classification: Query
Surnames: Eldred/Weston/Cushmeyer

This is one and the same family. I have done extensive research on this (my) Eldred line. Your grandfather,Benjamin Jeremiah Eldred is the great grandson of Benjamin Eldred and Margaretta Weston of Long Island. I believe your grandmother was Mabel Cushmeyer. Lucy Belle Eldred, your grandfather's sister, was my great grandmother and I would be grateful to learn what is written in the family Bible. Perhaps we can exchange information.
The Eldred family in Climax was from Rhode Island from at least the 1700's. Although the name has been seen as Eldredge I don't think it's related to your family.

If a census says the father was born in England it's England. If born in Canada it would say Canada and English meaning the Ontario part of Canada vs. Canada and French which refers to the Quebec part.

Is anyone aware of a connection between Eldridge kin in Michigan and western NY state, particularly Ontario county?

I am a descendant of Amos Eldridge, b. abt. 1839, d. 1921, probably in Canandaigua, Ontario, NY. I have one census record in which Amos, wife Sarah and daughters Clara and Flora (my gr-great-grandmother) are living in Victor, Ontario, NY in 1880. Other than that, I have Civil War veterans records that corroborate the family relationship and year of death.

I have no information about Amos's parents except they are born in "England" which I assume could be English Canada. I stumbled across Ontario County indenture listings on raims.com for Amos, Mary and Theodore Eldridge between 1851 and 1855; and a 1850 census that lists Amos and John Eldridge, aged 13 and 9, among the population at the Ontario County Poorhouse in Hopewell.

According to the the 1900 US Census of Ash, Monroe, Michigan, Amos Eldridge is living with sister Mary and her husband William Conkrite while Sarah appears to have stayed in Canandaigua living with her daughter Clara and son-in-law William Stevens. Both Amos and Sarah are still married, though Amos says it's 28 years and Sarah says it's 30.

I have been told that William was in the Civil War and came home and died of amonia. Lucy took Elmer and moved to Charlevoix Michigan where she met and married a Joseph Holland had two or three more sons and moved to Lawrence Michigan where she died at 49years old. Elmer married a Mable M Moses of Bangor Michigan had three children and died at age 36 in 1908. I have hit a big block with William J.
On page 108 of Samuel Eldred and Some of his Descendants by Nelson B. Eldred there is some information on a Joseph Eldridge/Eldred that settled in New York about 1810. This Joseph, son of Gardner Eldridge of Rhode Island and Massachusetts, may have been in Canada for some years.

Could someone that has this book please post that information or contact me?
I'm trying to find the wife/family of Edward J Eldred who studied law in England, emigrated to America in 1798. After some time in New Jersey he moved to Elkland, Sullivan Co., PA in 1800, where he became the Justice of the Peace.

My g-g-g-grandmother is Mary Eldred who I believe was born in Elkland (m. Jonas Hardy who also lived in Elkland) & I'm sure she must be related to Edward (his daughter?) but I haven't been able to make the connection yet. Can you help?

The August 1870 census shows Dennis and Margaret (Fleck) Eldred living in Lowell, Dodge, WI with 4 of their children. The fifth, Robert, was born in 1872. The oldest child was Myron, not Marion as was spelled on the census. Holden Elias was born in 1861. The census shows his name as Alias. I was advised by my grandmother, Edna Eldred Block, that Elias was actually Holden's first name at birth but he later changed it to Holden Elias. Dennis was born in NY while Margaret was born in Prussia.
Hope this helps out. Jim

Thanks for taking the time to look that up; however, I have the granville cemetery book--therefore have this info.
Likewise, James W; Salome; and Fanny are all siblings.
Parents are James Eldred & wife, Nancy Unknown, who are inter in Old Hartford Cemetery. After James died in 1831, Nancy remarried Nathan Crouch. Nancy claimed 13 children and 2 marriages in the 1855 census of Granville. Other children found through deeds recordings.
Further interest in this family can be explored for anyone interested.

Hi,
I've run into a roadblock trying to find the parents of Horace ELDRED. He was born about 1816 or 1817, presumably in Otsego County, NY.
On the 1840 census he shows up in Laurens, Otsego, NY.
On the 1850 census he is nowhere to be found. However his wife (Susan Gardner) and children are in Hartwick, Otsego, NY.
He moved to Minnesota in 1856.
Does anyone have Horace on their tree?
Thanks,
Todd

This is one and the same family. I have done extensive research on this (my) Eldred line. Your grandfather, Benjamin Jeremiah Eldred is the great grandson of Benjamin Eldred and Margaretta Weston of Long Island. I believe your grandmother was Mabel Cushmeyer. Lucy Belle Eldred, your grandfather's sister, was my great grandmother and I would be grateful to learn what is written in the family Bible. Perhaps we can exchange information. He was a tug boat captain out of NY and the waters off of Bayonne where he lived with his wife (second wife) my grandmother. We have a family bible given by Lucy Belle. I didn't know she was also an Eldred.
