Hi my last name is also Elie, im American but from Haitian decent. I'm trying to figure out the origins of it where does it originally come from. A friend of mine which is is Jewish said its a Jewish last name. I also know that many Jews fled to France during world war II, but i dont believe it, but bringing that up made me wonder where does the name come from?

I am looking for a Jeanne Elie, born about 1814, married to John Dubreuil in New Orleans, Louisiana. They have three children: John, Hortaire Onesime, and Marie Mercedes. I cannot find any information regarding Jeanne Elie's parentage or birth, nor any marriage record for her and John Dubreuil.

The Elie that I'm interested in is the Jehanne Elie b: 1596 in the Normandy France and m: to Charles LaValle b;1584 St.SAEN ROUEN NORMANDY FRANCE..Had sons that came to Quebec area in 1667 and descendants ended up in Indiana Vincennes after 1753..

All I really know is that my Father Thomas George Elie is son of George Elie and that we are French Canadian. My father was born in 1961. I am related to an Armand Elie. He is originally from Brighton Vermont (1900 census) and is in Cumberland Maine in the 1920 census. I just learned of this relation last night, so I don't know much yet. Is this person part of your family?

My paternal grandfather's name was Raymond Elie. I think he was born in New Hampshire around 1900. I don't know anything about his parents, but I have uncles, aunts, and cousins in the Worcester, MA area who probably know more.

I see that you list Jean Helie dit Breton (Jeanne Labbe), Do you know if his father was Jean Helie dit Breton who was married to Jeanne Meusinier in 1669, or maybe this is the same Jean who married both Jeanne Labbe and Jeanne Meusinier? At this point in my research, there appears to be 2 or three Jean Helie (Elie) Breton and I'm not sure who is who. The last Jean Helie (Elie) I have was born November 07, 1617. George, I know you wrote this years ago, but I'm hoping you may still look at it. Our grandfather also had brothers who lived in Maine, so I don't know if it was our grandfather or great-grandfather who actually lived in Canada. I have looked for the Elie name in Maine, but I don't remember grandpa's brothers' names. I saw them last in 1965 when grandpa died. I would love to talk to you and our brother and sister. I'm also an Elie of Haitian descent. But I don't really have a clear understanding of my past. As I have been told thus far, my paternal great grandfather was German. I know my paternal grandmother is Indian. You see my paternal grandfather died when my father was still a child so I never met him. Wish I had. I would love to know who I really am.

ELIE - Mrs. Agnes (McDonald) Elie, died Saturday afternoon at her home, 161 Ludlam street, aged 74 years, 88 months and 8 days, after a long illness. She had been a resident of this city for the past 25 years and counted many friends who will regret her death. She is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Alfred Lenardson of North Billerica, Mrs. Daniel Taylor and Miss Anna Elie, both of this city; one son, George of this city; one siter, Mrs. Philip Prince of Alberta, Canada, and one brother, Lue McDonald of Dracut. She was a member of the Third Order of St. Francis of St. Louis' parish, and Ste. Anne's sodality of St. Joseph's parish.

Hi Rob, Unfortunately all I have on Thedule is his name, his wife and their son. I don`t even have a date of birth for their son Henry Martin. I could take an educated guess as I have the birth year for Henry`s wife. (1900)

My father was Georges Sabourin, which would make Adelard's children his step-brothers.

Your mother would have been a sister to Clement's spouse Lucienne and another aunt, the spouse of Osias Leblond - the son of Adelard.

Adelard is buried in the same plot as Josephat and Alphonse Sabourin along with Annie Giroux & Aglae Auger in Corbeil, Ontario.

Therese Leblond-Vezina (daughter of Emile), spouse of Victor Vezina in Filed, Ont. would have pictures of Eva Leblond. However you will have to telephone her because they have no computer. Her son has one.

My great-grandfather's name was Adélard Leblond, he !st maried Henriette Blondin. They had 2 daughters Eva (Evodie) and Jeanne (Marie). My grand-mother was Eva. She maried Félix St-Pierre, Jeanne her sister maried Guillaume (William) Félix's 1st cousin.Henriette Blondin pass away and Adélard maried Aglaée Auger they had the following children Osias, Lucien,Omer, Émile, Lauriat, Marcilia. When Aélard passed away Aglaée maried Jos Sabourin, no children born from that mariage. Pépère Sabourin had a few sons ?Fonso, Clément m. Cécile Lavigne (my mother's sister),Jos, George. All this now, would anybody have any pictures of my grand-mother Eva Leblond. She passed away when my dad was 6, the eldest was 7, the 5th child was only 6 months also looking for th date date she passed away..

It has been indeed a long time... Since January 2002, I have figured out this enigma. So first there are two (2) couples who have the same names but they lived in different times.

The couple I gave you did exist and the dates were OK , but I gave you the wrong one by mistake. the parents of your Rose-de-lima (Adeline) Elie , really are:

Joseph Héli-dit-Breton born circa 1808, and Marie-Louise Laquerre (Benoit), born September 29, 1806, married November 26, 1832 in St-Polycarpe, Comté Soulanges.

(Source for the approximate age of her father Joseph Héli-dit-Breton born circa 1808: his mother Elisabeth Brinkman -also known as Breakman or Brangman, declared that he was 19 years old in the deed of distribution of the assets of the succession of his late father who had the same name Joseph Héli-dit-Breton)
(Adeline's mother's parents were François Benoit(Benoist)-Laquerre born June 13, 1786 in Les Cèdres, Soulanges, and Angélique(Marie-Louise) Tenase-Poulin born May 25, 1785 in Vaudreuil, Soulanges)
Adeline 's father had also used the name Joseph Hély in his mariage records of November 26, 1832, and used again the name Joseph Hély in the baptism records of his son André (my great-great-grand-father, wo was your Adeline's brother)

I just received this message. It's been a while. Yes that is the person I'm looking for but Rose's parents date can't be right because you have her father born in 1880 and her born in about 1856. Did you by any chance just type in the wrong years for her parents? As I don't have them any way. I have her parents married November 26, 1832 St Polycarpe Quebec

All the other dates you have listed is what I have.

Which Elie Breton line are you from?

I'm from Joseph Elie and Elisabeth Breckman line who where married in 1808 outside of Quebec Province. Joseph was my 4th great grandfather. He dropped the Breton after Elie.

I haven't ran across a web a site for just a Elie Breton line. Just sites that have either name on them.

In our family line, there are four generations of ELIE VALLETTE. Starting with ELIE de LA VALLETTE 1685-1764. He had two brothers Jean 1670- & Pierre 1677-1762. Elie immigrated to Annapolis, Maryland about 1710. At that time he dropped the LA from his name. In a letter regarding family history, written by Elie IV, in 1839, he stated that his grandfather was a descendant of Jean Louis de Nogart de La Vallette, Duke of Espernon.1554 Caumont, France-1642. If anyone has any further information, I'd appreciate it.

Unfortunately I am stuck in the early 1800's with my ELIE family. I've traced them back to Paris. Unfortunately the records I need have not been reconstructed yet (there was a fire in the archives in 1871 that destroyed a lot of records). I can't supply information to you on the ELIE's of the 1600's. Good luck to you.
