Herschel L. Elijah, Sr., 78, of Bremerton,
Washington, died Sunday at
Winslow Convalecent Center. He was born Oct. 31, 1912 in
Chalmers, Ind., and was raised in the Minneapolis-St. Paul area. Mr. Elijah served in the U.S. Army in WWII and was a disabled veteran. He worked at
Powers Department Store in Minneapolis for many years. Mrs. Elijah died in Oct. 1974 and Mr. Elijah moved to Bremerton four years ago. He enjoyed playing cards with other residents of the
Willows Retirement Home.
He is survived by his son,
Herschel, Jr., of Tracyton [
Kitsap County, WA]; two half-brothers, John
Callahan of Gulfport, Miss., and Charles
Callahan of Hawaii; a half-sister, Marjorie
Hommon of
Hebron,
Ohio, and two grandchildren. Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Church of Jesus
Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Bremerton, with graveside services 10 a.m. Saturday at Evergreen Cemetery,
Brainerd, Minn. Arrangements are by Lewis Funeral
Chapel.
