My whole branch of the Ell Family is Jewish. We originated from Tomishav? Poland. My grandfather was Solomon Ell. He emigrated form England at the turn of the 20th century where he was living with family. There is a whole branch of Ell's that are Jewish from Poland. Many died in the Holocaust but I know we had family in California, Canada, Belgium, England, Germany and Poland

I've been trying to find the family of Gladys Ell who married Victor Ell. Her maiden name was Ayres or Ayers. They had two sons that I know of that were named Barry Ell and Edward Ell. Victor was born in 1895, but I don't know when or where Gladys was born. I was told that they lived in Portland, Oregon U.S.A. until Victor Ell died. Then Gladys took herself and her two boys to London where I then lost track of this family. Have you heard of this "ELL" family? If so, please contact me at: pamandsirius@comcast.net

ELL, THOMAS born 1756 ENGLAND

Hi
I havent posted a message on the board for quite a long time. My Thomas was married and buried in EYDON, NORTHANTS, ENGLAND. As on the marriage it said that both THOMAS and his wife Elizabeth JUDKINS were of this parish I had assumed wrongly in my early family tree hunting days that that meant there were born there. A contact I had made through a family member had done a lot of research and had found the nearest likely looking birth to be in RADWAY. I wrongly assumed this to be in NORTHANTS but I noticed yesterday that it is in WARWICKSHIRE. When searching ancestry I could find an entry for Thomas but by going page by page I did indeed find an entry for THOMAS ELL baptised 1756 RADWAY or RATLEY in WARKWICKSHIRE parents Thomas and Elizabeth ELL.

Has anyone made this break through the previous brick wall with other evidence to support this entry as there does not seem to be any surviving records for EYDON, NORTHANTS for this date.

ALSO ANY IDEAS WHERE ELIZABETH JUDKINS HIS WIFE CAME FROM.

HELP

Hi Renate, realizing this is an old post, do you have any idea what may have been a succeeding church, or an OLDER church for residents of Fautenbach?

My earliest SCHWANTZ/KOHLER family is Andreas Schwantz and
Anna Maria KOHLER. For this couple I have not vital informaiton but they appear in Fautenbach birth records for ten children born in Fautenbach between 1725 and 1744. I have marriages in Fautenbach and continuing family information for Maria Evan marriage to Hieronymous HAUSER (see below) in 1755, for Blasius married to Rosina Pfieffer in 1757 and for Joseph married to Christina Hodapp in 1752

My earliest HAUSER/WEBER family is Michael Hauser (?-1751)and Franciska Weber (-1766). I have death records for both from Fautenbach church. All else I know of them is that they had five chilren. Four were born in Fautebach (Hieronimous 1726 / Maria Elizabetha 1729 / Maria Anna 1733 / Johann Bernard 1737) and a fifth noted in Oensbach familienbuch born POSSIBLY as early as 1717 though that seems unlikely.

Since I have not come across any death records for the children (yet) I surmise they may have moved to another parish, possibly without themselves moving?

I also speculate they may have been part of an earlier parish prior to Fautenbach, any ideas where I might look?
Finally you referenced a Christina Weber marrying Johann Ell in Fautenbach. Is the fire you referenced in 1724 at the Fautenbach or Onsbach church?

Not sure if this actually helps but my ggg grandfather was Thomas Ell born Shoreditch 1818, he married Louisa Robon also born 1818 Shoreditch. His son was Alfred James Ell b St Lukes who maried Emily Bugden. They had a son Vivian Leslie. The Ell's anecdotally (according to my grandfather) were descended from the French aristocracy!! There is no proof of that at all! Robon however does suggest a French connection. Robon does appear as a middle name of another Thomas Ell - born 1891 d 1891 (son of Edward Adolphus and Hannah Sophia Parkes)

Hello Bob,

Victor passed away last year, I went to his wake with my father's half sister(Deanna Boulton - daughter of Stella and Peter Steneko). There I met his son, Robert, he lives in Pasadena. Despite best efforts and many voice mails we have not had any substantial conversations. He seems very busy in his Hollywood life.

I have met with Risa and looked over photos. She is amazing, strong and in her 90s.

Jason got married a few years ago to Shelly his college sweetheart.

I married Hannah Melina Sanabria 7 years ago and now are in the process of adopting 2 little girls 4 & 5....Adilis and Ariana.

Jason seems to think that Joe (Edward's bio father) lived in Los Angeles and maybe buried in East Los Angeles in a Jewish cemetery.

Would love to explore our Ell connections further.

Be Well,

Eric

Hello Eric.

Over the years I have been in communication with your brother Jason (lost contact with him) and a Victor Ell (Lost contact with him as well). Not sure if you are connected to Victor or not.

Your brother Jason and I communicated in March 2001 and since then I lost contact with him. He seemed to have quite a bit of information on the family and was at some time hoping to write it down. You may wish to check with him on some of that information.

As for a Victor Ell, he contacted me in 1996 and he indicated that his mother's name was Raisa Yourga and his father was Jack Ell. He said that Jack was born abt 1912 in Eupatoria, Crimea and indicated that some of his family was Orthodox and some were Catholic.

On another trail, many years ago, I received a message from an ELL who indicated that his family had come out of Russia and that his branch were Jewish.

best bet is to contact me directly at bobell@shaw.ca and perhaps we can put our heads together to link you up.

Your branch and the Jewish connection are the two branches that I am still working on.

The Ells that show up in the Russian and Ukrainian records that I have been privy to are Catholic who had emigrated to Russia between 1804 and 1816 and settled near Odessa. Some of my branch moved south to the Crimea and perhaps there maybe a link between the Jack Ell and my branch.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

In relation to Eugene Ell b. 10.8.1857 my father's records have several notes - army records, will etc and a photo in regimental dress etc. I gather there was some confusion with the name and registration of birth - happy to share whatever records I now hold.
Johannes Walter Ell and Frances Braunagel were German but both were born in the Odessa region of old South Russia. Probably both were from the village of Baden, just NW of the city of Odessa. Both families show up in the 1852 Census for the village of Baden.

Hi, I'm responding to your note regarding Michael Ell born February 17, 1871 in Odessa, Kherson Russia, probably in the village of Baden in the Kutschurgan colonies.

Michael was born to Kasper Ell and Barbara Reiss. Kasper was the son of Benedikt Ell and Appolonia Van.

Michael's wife's name was Katharina Goetz, born March 20, 1876 in Baden, Odessa, Kherson, South Russia.

As for the children of Johannes Walter Ell and Francis Braunagel you are right, Johannes, Peter and Frank came to America at different times. like you I haven't found Midas as yet. Midas is a legitimate German name., so I haven't ruled it out as of yet.

Finding official records on Johannes Walter Ell and his wife Francis have been elusive. I have not been able to find reference to them in records in Odessa as yet. One theory that I have is that Johannes could be a brother to Kasper Ell mentioned in the first paragraph. Kasper's brother was Valentine. Walter is an americanizaton of Valentine. Often in German if the first name was Johannes, the name was left silent and the individual went by their second name i.e. Johannes 'Valentine' Anyway just a theory.

I have a large database of Ell ancestors. If you have any other questions or if you run into information that you may find that I may be interested in please e-mail me at bobell@shaw.ca

Hi there,

I have only just picked up your message regarding UK Ells - I don't use the same email address anymore and only check my old one once in a while. Regretfully I haven't been keeping up with my family history, which is very naughty of me, but I am very interested in your reply regarding Ethel Ell - a lot of my Ells that I discovered did come from London so it's quite possible we have a connection. I'll dig out my research and have a look over the next few days, and let you know what I find. I do have a substantial amount of information which was partly supplied by a couple of other family members who had done quite a lot of research.
My current email address is now: sue271051@blueyonder.co.uk and I use this one all the time. Can you let me have your email address (and also your name!) so that I can reply to you more fully? I'll be in touch again soon, I promise!
Best wishes,
Sue Hadley
