Jeremiah & Ann Trotter Elliott, Donegal to Durham, Quebec

Jeremiah Elliott (1780) & Ann Trotter (1782) along with their adult children and grandchildren immigrated to Durham, Quebec, CANADA from Donegal around 1835. My line is their son George Elliott (1810) and Mary Bell and their son John (1837) and Mary Ann Lyster who lived in Winfred, South Dakota. In Ireland, some of the children were born in Fermmanagh, Armagh and Antrim. The children of Jeremiah and Ann Trotter Elliott were: Rebecca (John Leonard) Stayed in Ireland William (1801)& Jane Trotter; Alexander (1803)& Ann Lanigan; Arthur (1808)& Eleanor Bothwell; George (1810)& Mary Bell; Jane (1812)& James Bothwell; Jeremiah 1816-1819)& Rebecca Bothwell; Anna (1817)& Edward Bothwell; John (1819)& Jane Bothwell; and Trotter 1823& Ann Bell. Am most interested in the line of George And Mary Bell, through John and Mary Ann Lyster, but am compiling a list of all of the descendants. Anxious to hear from you all!!!

They died in their hands. That was over 50 years ago. Since that time DNA has been perfected and also they are recovering remains in North Korea. Our government is obligated to return those remains to the proper family. DNA samples have been obtained from most of the families of these missing soldiers. For various reasons some families have not been located.

When the remains are recovered and identified they will be returned to the family for proper burial. I am just an old (76 years) Combat Veteran out of the Korean War and thankful that I did return. I consider this a very noble cause and I hope that you can help in some way to find this family. For more information on the project you may go to http://www.jpac.pacom.mil/. My part in the program is to match up the lost families with the proper agency.

I will be grateful for any assistance in locating these families.

Harold Davis
40th Infantry Division
Korea ’52-‘53
910-791-2333
hgdavis@bellsouth.net
Hello,

I am looking for information about three brothers named Abraham, William and Edward (Ned) Elliott who moved to Fayette County, PA after the French and Indian War. Abraham was a bachelor, Edward later moved on to Kentucky, and William had at least two sons, Thomas and Abraham, Jr. (born abt. 1773).

The three may have been sons of Robert Elliott of Ireland.

I would greatly appreciate any information about these brothers, especially any information about their parents. I descend from Edward. Do they appear in anyone else's line?

I am looking for information about the ancestry of my great-grandmother.

Her name was Frances Ethel Elliott. She was born in Illinois in December 1884 and married Benjamin Rudolph Himstedt (Himstead).

Her father's name was George W. Elliott. I do not know when or where he was born. He was, according to family legend, a wealthy land owner in Decatur, IL. He was married twice. His first wife, Isabelle Osborne, was Frances' mother. I do not know his second wife's name, only that Frances did not like her.

I know that there are many, many Elliotts throughout the midwest. Perhaps mine match to someone else's? I am very appreciative of any help you can offer!

- Jennifer Porter

Elliott family of Cross Creek Twp

I am looking for information on the Elliot family that lived in Cross Creek Twp in Washington County Pennsylvania.

In checking the census records there is a John Elliot who lived there, and again in 1810 there is John, John, Hugh all in Cross Creek, and a James living in Hopewell Twp.

I have not yet gone through the Will Abstract book for the county but 4 names I remember from there are Hugh, John, James, and Patrick (died 1832 and is buried at Cross Creek Presby Cem). The John Elliot who lived in Cross Creek Twp had 4 sons and I believe these are the names of his sons. What interests me the most is that he also had 3 daughters. The daughters are more specifically the names that I am trying to find.

Here is an analysis I made of the census for 1800 and 1810 related to the 2 John Elliot's:

1800 - Cross Creek, John Elliott
M: (2) 0-10; (2) 10-15; (1) 26-44
F: (1) 0-10; (1) 10-15; (1) 16-25; (1) 26-44

1810 - Cross Creek, John Elliott #1
M: (1) 16-25
F: (1) 16-25; (1) 45+

1810 - Cross Creek, John Elliott #2
M: (2) 0-10; (1) 10-15; (2) 16-25; (1) 45+
F: (1) 0-10; (1) 16-25; (1) 26-44

Hugh Elliott had a son named John and I am unable to accurately decipher which would be the son of Hugh and which would be John, the father of Hugh.

I would like to prove that my GGGG-GF William Ralston married Jane Elliot. The lore is that they were born in Ireland and I have found this to be true so in order for me to find a match or a lead, I am in need to finding the Elliott who immigrated from Ireland between 1784 and 1805. I have some theories that Jane's maiden name is Elliott and I was looking at a naming pattern for our family in the hopes that some clue, or they key they used, would make itself evident. However, without more information I am unable to do this. In using the traditional naming pattern, the 2nd son is to be given the maternal grandfather's name and this case it is John (my GGG-GF). This is when I began looking for a John Elliott to make a discovery and found a person by this name in the township of interest.

A couple theories to help support this idea are these. In 1807, Patrick Elliot by Exec sold land in Cross Creek Twp to William Roulston (deed record 1T-792 according to their Guarantee index). I was recently at Washington, PA and the location they searched for in their database for this deed came up with a plan instead of a deed and it was dated 1983. That was a huge wall I smacked into, because I was hoping that this deed might have answered some questions. I am unclear if Patrick actually was the Exec or the Dec'd. Personally, I think he was the executor.

The other thing that I have of interest is that William and Jane's youngest child, Mary Jane, had a son named David Elliot. When David's father, Robert Ralston, died in 1899 the names of his parents were listed as being William Ralston and Jane Elliot. Mary was born in Hopewell Twp on the Ralston farm and Robert was a clan cousin she married who immigrated from Ireland in the 1840s. Since I have found other information to be faulty, I cannot definitively say that that parents of Robert are correct. In going back to the naming pattern, William and Jane's eldest (theoretical based on the birth order given in the Will of William) son is David and would be named after the paternal grandfather. However, they could have done the opposite and switched the naming order. Who knows (and I really wish I could ask them too).

I have scoured as many Elliott-related things to this family in that township on the internet and have come up with nothing at this point. None of the information that I have found has gone back this far.

Jane Ralston died in Jan of 1837 in her 54th year and is buried at the Mt. Hope Cemetery in Independence Twp beside her husband and 3 children. I believe that she would have been 55 that year, thus making her year of birth to be 1782 and she would have been 18yrs in the 1800 census. By the 1800 census, John Elliott does have 1 daughter who is 16-25. Is this Jane? In further observance of the curiosity of this naming pattern, William and Jane's son John would have named his 2nd daughter after his mother and the child's name was Sarah Jane. If they followed a traditional Irish naming pattern, then her name would be Sarah Jane Elliott.

These are all my thoughts and notes at this time about this family and I truly am stumped as to what to do. I may seem to have given a thoughtful, logical argument for my theory of having descended from a Ralston/Elliot union, but without some true evidence, I am afraid that this is all that I have.

Can anyone help me who knows something about this Elliott family?

ps. I believe that William and Jane were born in Co Donegal, IR because I have seen the Ralston and Elliott named referenced more to that area than any others. They would have married in 1805 in Washington Co, PA though.

I will be posting this in the Elliott forum too for the most exposure.

Thank you for your considerations in this matter.
Hi, I am researching my ancestors with my cousin Frances. Our Great Grand parents were John and Jane Elliott and at the time of my Great Grandparents marriage 10 September 1863: Martha Elliott to Patrick Doherty, both were of full age (21) and gave their address as Bishop Street, Derry/Londonderry. Our Great Grandfather Patrick Doherty was killed in an accident whilst working onboard a train coming from St Johnston to Derry, he died 21 January 1894 and our Great Granny died 3 February 1900. It is reported that her mother died 1905 - 1908, was attended by the Rev Hayes and was buried from her Grand=daughter's home 209 Bishop Street, Derry. Anyone out there with a connection to us, please get in touch or anyone who could give us some guidance please get in touch. Thanks Nuala a

I am trying to track down information about a John Elliott, born about 1815, and his ancestors.

The 1880 Federal US Census listed John Elliott (b. about 1815 in New Jersey) married to Pheby (Lowe) Elliott (b. about 1814 in Virginia).

I am searching for information about the death of James A. Elliott (1852-1913) whom died in Canaseraga. He was a hotel proprietor.

James A. Elliott married Urana THOMPSON ca. 1875 likely in Bradford County. She was the daughter of Anthony and Rhoda BERRY Thompson. James and Urana had one daughter, named Cora ELLIOTT, born ca. 1877 in Pennsylvania.

1880 census for Ridgebury Twp., Bradford Co., Pennsylvania lists:
Elliott James 28 M hus farmer PA PA PA
Urana 25 F wife housekeeper PA NY PA
Cora 3 F dau PA PA PA

Urana THOMPSON Elliott died 1890 in Elmira, Chemung Co., New York.
Researching (Quaker) ELLIOTTS in Randolph/Guilford Counties of NC. I have info on this line beginning with John Elliott (b. 1746) and his wife Sarah, but I am trying to determine who John's ancestors are. I have seen several sources that give his parents as Abraham, Sr. and Priscilla Foulke, however I don't think the dates I have match up correctly for this to be true. I would love to compare notes with others researching the Randolph Co. (to Indiana, Illinois, Iowa) Elliotts.

Summery of what I have:
gen #1: John Elliott, abt 1746 - wife Mary
Children:
1. *Isaac, mrd. Jacob

gen #2: *Isaac Elliott, b. NC 1773 wife AnnaHough/Huff
Children:
1. Jacob (may have married a BLAYLOCK
2. Rebecca, mrd. Zaza Merrill
3. Alfred, mrd. Nancy Elliott, dau. of Joseph and Ruth
Wilson Elliott.
4. Benjamin (family notes say he died young)
5. Daniel (have never found a clue abt. Daniel)
6. Jesse , mrd: Nancy Laswell
7. John (moved to SC)
8. Leah (no info)
9. Mary (no info)
10. Nancy, married a BLAIR (possibly Marcus BLAIR)
11. William (no info)
12. Alexander Thomas, mrd. JoAnna Przyborowski
from Conway, SC. Alex lived in NC and SC.
All Isaac's children born in NC between 1798-1818.

Beverly
parkerlevi@aol.com

Katie Thompson and Jay Eliot named a daughter, b. ca 1902, Dolly. She became an elementary school principal in Trinidad, CO. I never heard of Dolly Thompson nor O'Brien, but my step-mother, Lorretta Marguerit Eliot, was not at all inteested in genealogy. One Thompson was sheriff of Las Animas County, CO. I think he was Katie's father.
Because the family was rather prominent it's likely that if your Dolly Thompson was part of it, the story was hushed up or didn't even reach Colorado.
Roberta

I've found the family of my 2nd great grandparents listed twice in the 1870 census.
In June the enumerator found Elcana Elliott and Jane (Gheen)Elliott in Turnersburg Twp., Iredell N.C., County Line P.O.:
Reeves, Elizabeth 75 F W keeping house N.C.
Elliot, Elcana 72 M W farmer 300 200 "
-- Jane 72 F W keeping house "
-- Angeline 26 F W housekeeping "
-- Jane 24 F W --- "
Gullet, Margaret 11 F W at home "

then in September the same enumerator listed them in Eagle Mills Twp., Iredell N.C., Eagle Mills P.O.:
Elliot Elcana 74 M W farmer 200 150 N.C.
-- Jane 76 F W keeping house "
-- Angeline 28 F W at home "
-- Jane 23 F W -- "
-- Margaret 12 F W -- "

the following obit for Jane connects the Eagle Mills location with the surname Reeves from the June census.

Jane Elliott Obituary from the Landmark newspaper: 1882

DEATH OF THE OLDEST PERSON IN THE COUNTY Mrs. Jane Elliott, who was undoubtedly the oldest person in this county, died at her residence in Eagle Mills township on the 22d of November. She was over 100 years old--as accurately as can be ascertained, 102. She left 115 descendants. The oldest of her descendants of the fourth generation--great great grandchildren--is Mr. Net Reeves, who is 24 years of age. She was buried at Union Grove, the funeral sermon having been preached by Rev. Dr. J. P. Nicholson, who had attended her in her last illness. She retained her mental faculties to the last and had been able to go to the table up to two weeks before her death. Mrs. Elliott was raised in Rowan county. Her husband died a number of years ago, and his funeral was preached with hers.

Would like to learn more on the Reeves family connection.

Does anybody know when the ELLIOTTs arrived in Stonehouse, Gloucestershire, England and, if so, from where ? from Scotland ?
I have traced my line back to John ELLIOTT, who was listed as a Husbandman in the Stonehouse Resiants List 1558-1804. He married Katheren BUDDING in Stonehouse on 10 August 1577 and he died in Stonehouse on 19 July 1631. I have been unable to find any earlier record of the ELLIOTTs in Stonehouse.
Any help greatly appreciated.

Every year a ceremony is held at the cemetary.
A Mr Vaugrenard who is the member of The Society of History and Archeology at Perigord France is researching the memorial at Exicideuil.
I am trying to find any descendents of George and William who could provide any details of George and William's antecedents for the research.
It is known that George's wife lived at 31 Orrell Lane, Liverpool in 1944.
George's parents were William and Olive Anne Elliott of Bootle, Merseyside. I last met them around 1960.
Any information would be of assistance.
Many thanks.
Andy

Looking for information on Charles Elliott born early 1850s in Smallburgh Norfolk. According to his marriage cert his father was William, a sailor. In 1901 and 1891 Census he gives birthplace as Norfolk but in 1881 he gives Middlesex. I can't find him before 1881. If anyone is researching the Norfolk Elliotts I am new to this branch and would appreciate some help
James Elliott Sr. b. about 1750 in County Down, N.I. (MY other surnames: Berry, Randall, Wilburn, Wilbourne, Bailey)

Searching for information on James Elliott b. about 1750 in Saintfield, County Down, Northern Ireland. He had a Freeholder claim in 1769. Cant read the Barony.
He came to America and landed in Maryland. It must have been on the eve or during the American Revolution. He may have been in it. He and his wife, Peggy, (probably Margaret) came right after they were married. (Family lore)
There was a Rev. Martin who transported 5 shiploads of Scots-Irish from Belfast in 1772 to Chester County, S.C. Saintfield is 10 miles south of Belfast. These are supposedly somewhere online but I cannot find them.
The next entry lists them in Fairfield County, S.C. about 1790. Fairfield is just south of Chester County. They had their 4 sons there: John b. 1791, Thomas b. 1793, Robert Henry b. 1797, and James Jr. All but Robert were in the War of 1812 in McWillie's Regiment. They recieved Bounties in Arkansas and moved there after 1820. James Sr., Peggy, and James Jr. died in S.C. about 1820.
I am sure they orginally came from Scotland most likely Roxburgshire. Since County Antrim and County Down were the first settlements in Northern Ireland there may be another 100 years back to Scotland to find the rest of the family. Does anyone have any information on James Elliott Sr?
I have looked in the Public Records of Northern Ireland (PRONI) and all I could find is the Freeholder claim. Some have said that the other records would be in the church or parish holdings before 1800's. These are not online. Any information would be appreciated
