Thank you for your reply. I rechecked my data and found the Elmer and Oliver you were asking about. It seems that Oliver (1745) and Elmer (1837) are 2nd cousins 3 X removed. I also believe that there is another Oliver Ellworth that is not connected to our family. I will need to do some looking for that fellow as he is not in my data base. I've been collecting Ellsworth people for many years and have an index of almost 2,000 bodies. Be happly to share any info.
Roger.

The Oliver to whom I refer is the governor, delegate, Supreme Court justice.
I will look for the people and dates you mention here in my charts and get back to you. The Elmer Ellsworth born in 1837 in NY is the exact data for the famous Colonel Elmer Ellsworth, aide to Abe Lincoln. He is one of 2 Elmer Ellsworths in our charts...I will check the other Elmer Ellsworth's dates and report that to you.
My Ellsworth line was living in Vermont, about 50 miles from the NY line.
(Pittsford, near Rutland). Also, I saw on one of these forums that there were 2 Oliver Ellsworths...of the same family...that may explain something also. PATTY

I have three Elmer Ellsworth in my family, one born 1861 in VT., one born 1862 in Ohio and one born 1837 in NY. O also have 4 Oliver Ellsworth families with birth dates of 1749 in CT, 1745 in CT, 1781 in CT, 1889 in PA. Which are you referring to? They all seem to be related.
Roger

J.Keith Carter: I think you emailed me before...can't recall if I replied...I am also related to German Ellsworth...relatives gave me extensive charts...i would love to correspond with you...we have Col. ELmer Ellsworth clearly in those charts...we have a lot of CT relatives... I am not seeing Oliver's info, but I do think that several sources report a link of Oliver to Col. Elmer. I have not seen German's book yet. I am a desc. of Josiah, who is in the charts.
Patty
I don't believe that this booklet is available on the open market. It was put together for a reunion in the late sixties and distributed at that time. There used to be a reunion in Windsor in the past years,, but I have not heard of one in the past 20 years. My copy was passed down from my father in the late 60's, and I do not know how or from whom. My great grandmother was an Ellsworth of this family thru Gustavus Ellsworth. If anyone needs a specific person's info or would like me to search the book for specific people, please let me know. Roger

Roger, you state "There is an unpublished "Ellsworth Genealogy" booklet with 140 pages by Joseph A Ellsworth of Lehman PA in 1968. It has a lot of information on the family back to Josiah Ellsworth (1629)in Windsor CT."
While it has not been published, Where can I obtain a copy? My mother was an Ellsworth and I am always looking for data. Most of the books are out of print and impossible to find. Thanks, Keith.

I need to make a correction to posting of March 2, 2011. I stated that Susanna Ellsworth married John Ellsworth Horning. That should have read Susanna Ellsworth married George Horning. John Ellsworth Horning was George and Susanna's first born and only son, born 1833. JEH married Catherine Barbara Mortorff, b. 1841.

Hello, You communicated with me last Sept re: a querie looking for Susanna Ellsworth of possible Clark Co. OH. A breakthrough happened tonight on Susanna from a newfound cousin of mine. She provided Susanna's maiden name of Ellsworth, that married John Ellsworth Horning. Maybe I will get more from her as to Susanna' parents, grandparents, etc. My email address is Memory52@aol.com if you could please send me the PDF file you mentioned from BYU that you have. I would appreciate it very much. I'll keep in touch with what else I can find. Thanks again. Mary Mayfield

I have posted a review of "History of the Fire-Lands," published in 1879 by WW Williams on the "Firelands History Website": http://firelands.wordpress.com.
Included in this book are biographies and portraits of Ransom (b. 1800) and Susan (nee Morey) Ellsworth, who settled in the Firelands of Northwestern Ohio.
The Firelands, or Sufferers' Land, was set aside for "Sufferers" in Connecticut whose homes were burned by the British during the American Revolution. It includes present day Huron, Erie, Ottawa, and Ashland Counties in Ohio.
My post includes a short synopsis of "History of the Fire-Lands" and the Table of Contents with links to the free on-line book's histories, biographies and illustrations of the pioneers and their families.
I invite you to check out this interesting biography of Ransom and Susan Ellsworth and other pioneers of the Firelands.

Hi Jacob Ellsworth and Kelli,

Jacob, your grandfather, Nelson Ellsworth, was my great uncle. His nickname was 'Doc' because he was a dentist. He did serve in WWI. Uncle Nelson had one brother, my grandfather, Fred, and my great aunt Anna. Aunt Anna's name was Anna Perkins. They all lived in Esterville for a long time. I remember Spencer is near by and I think that is were the only Hospital was. I knew my aunt and uncle in Esterville and visited them every summer. My mother (maiden name, Bessie M. Ellsworth), my sister and I would ride the train to Albert Lee, Minn. where they would pick us up and take us to Esterville. Anyway if you have more questions about this branch of the Ellsworth family, maybe I can answer them. My mother told me many stories and my mother's sister, (maiden name, Ethel J. Ellsworth) did some collecting of the family history and documents.

My email is altoglor@gmail.com, happy researching, Kathy Alt

Hello,

I'm not even sure I am looking for the surname Ellsworth. Just a stab in the dark. My Susanna ??? married a George Horning. She was from Clark Co. OH and named her first and only son John Ellsworth Horning. Lots of times the first born son was given the surname of Mother. I searched the Clark Co. census looking for Ellsworths and found Jacob and Rachel with a daughter Susanna. Thank you for your interest in my posting and the information you supplied, but don't think there is a match.

I have a bit for you from German Ellsworth's book. It is a very large manuscript down loadable from the BYU collection. My mother was Hazel Julia Ellsworth and I'm sure if you wanted to go through the hundreds and hundreds of names we would have a connection -
It is a PDF file and I haven't figured out how to paste it here but if you would send me your email address I can attach what is there. Below is a text conversion and it didn't turn out too well. There are 579 pages in the manuscript. Keith.

#48k V. JACOB (son of Moses IV, Nathl. Ill) born 1775, died
aged 98 years, 1873 a farmer. Spent his last years in Clark Co., Ohio. He married 1793 Rachel Bibbe of Virginia born 1771 and died in Ohio 1855. They were Methodist Episcopal in religion. He received prize money in the sixth class for capture of the "Chesapeak" in 1813. Children:

1, Nancy E. m. Rev. Wm. Kurl, M.E. Minister.
#ll8
2. John, m. Miss Susan Runyan, dwelt in Sodam, Champaign
Co., 0.

3. Susanna m.
Foster Child Looking for Family of Karen Lee Edwards Ellsworth Bluth

My 16 year old foster daughter is trying to find any half siblings she may have. Her mother was Karen Lee Edwards, born 19 Dec 1960. She passed away around 2005. She married a Patrick "Skip" Ellsworth. They had at least 3 daughters, the three known all live in Oregon. Karen may have re-married to a man with the last name of Bluth. She was born in California, she and Patrick both lived in Vermilion, Ohio, and Olympia, Washington. There may be half or step siblings in Washington. There may also have been a small boy that passed away that may have been related in some way to either Karen, Patrick, or the person with the last name Bluth.
My foster daughter knows nothing of her mother except for a few details that are not things a 16 year old girl needs to think about. A picture, a memory of something she liked to do, what kind of things made her laugh, anything would really be appreciated. She knows her mother had a hard life, but something to humanize her would be great. All she does know is that she was a prostitute, and that is all she can tell you about her. I also know that Karen's fathers last name was Edwards, and her mothers was Miller, but other than that I have no information and have hit a brick wall. She would really like to know more about her family, grandparents, ect. It is not ok for her to be in contact with her father and his family does not seem to want to answer too many questions. Please E-mail me at Couggirl67@hotmail.com

Hi Flora, I called my brother Andy to follow up with him regarding the email I sent with your request. It seems he never received it or accidentally deleted it. He said he would definitely be willing to submit a dna sample, especially if the cost is taken care of. I told him I would pass his number along to you. He said to leave a message if he doesn't answer, it's also his business phone. (520)304-5694 Let me know the results when you receive them: pattiellsworth@hotmail.com

Hi Roger, sorry for the delay. Having downsized as all seniors must do and selling our big old house and going the apartment route, my genealogy has suffered but hopefully I will be back on track soon. Your response triggered my old memory cells and I checked my computer files as I remembered that I had downloaded German Ellsworth's book from the BYU library, and it was free. For what ever reason I had not extracted the data on my Oliver and his ancestry line back to Josiah. If you do not have this book I can send you the URL to download it. I checked this morning and it is still available. A big PDF file mind you but a real gem. I took a stab at your Thomas but there are quite a few listed in the book and navigating it is quite a laborious task so I gave up. Perhaps if you give me his dob I can pinpoint him and take it from there. This fall hopefully I will be able to finish doing the entries on my computer and can publish. I have done this for my Cassius Wirt Ellsworth of Berkshire VT and the Civil War. I was born in Bedford QC not far from Berkshire and have visited the area and photographed the headstones. If you want anything from my Mother's line I would be only too pleased to send a copy or a gedcom when I get it finished. Just let me know, best regards, Keith. BTW, what program do you use for your genealogy, I started with the LDS one and have stayed with it. But gedcom files are universal. k.

Ira (d:4-28-1961) and Ella May(Hewitt) (d:5/26/1941) were my great grandparents. They had other children; Gladys, Everett, Alice and Elliot. At that time Joseph lived in Lehman, PA until his death in 1995. It is about 150 pages, with about half having do to with the female descendents of Thomas Ellsworth of Windsor, CT. I do not have much on the family of Cassius except what is available from census records. I would be pleased to exchange info with you. Do you have the family back to Thomas of Windsor CT? Do you need info on Oliver's family forward? Let me know and I will make copies of the info I have and mail it all to you. Roger

I have Oliver b 24 March 1749 as my 4th great grandfather. My mother was Hazel Julia Ellsworth, d/o Stephen Cassius, s/o Deforest Morat, s/o Cassius Wirt, died battle Petersburg 1865, s/o Dr. William Clement, s/o of Oliver. I have considerable information on the family from William Clement down but lack details from Oliver through. I would appreciate any information and would happily exchange what I have. I do have quite detailed information on my 2nd ggrandfather Cassius from his war records and his widows pension records. Look forward to hearing. Keith. BTW, a lot of my info came from Kay Hunter in Ogden Utah who was Niece to German Ellsworth who wrote the book.

After I wrote you, I found the file on Oliver Ellsworth 1745-1807. It was interesting to find two Oliver Ellsworth's born the same year. As you know, your Oliver was the father of William Wolcott Ellswoth, and a delegate and Senetor from Conn, born in Windsor in April 29, 1749. There seems to be no connection with my family which is also from Windsor. Perhaps if we can go cack far enough there will be a connection. Roger
