I know this is an old post that I am responding to, but it is worth a shot that you or some other Elwoods will see it. I am a decendent of Richard Elwood (b. 1848)and Catherine Mulvey from Canbo Farm, Carrick on Shannon, Roscommon, Ireland. They had 12 children. Their son, Thomas, was my grandfather. He and his brother William and sister, Theresa, emigrated to Newark, NJ between 1914 and 1930. Other siblings came over and stayed awhile and then went back to Ireland. The family home is still occupied by Richard and Catherine's grandsons with the surname Cryan. I am trying to get some information regarding Richard and/or Catherine's lineage. I would love to hear from anyone who might have more information.

Hi Darlene,
My cousin was here from PA for my mother's funeral. She brought with her old clippings. I wanted to make copies of everything but never got the chance with some much going on. One of the clippings mentioned that Loyola Burton Elwood was James Elwood's father. I had even asked my mom before she passed what her grandfather's name was. She said Burt so he must have gone by his middle name. I think I am spelling the first name correctly. It was something like that. Where did you get the Albert first name in your findings? I am wondering if Albert is incorrect. I wish I had the time to make copies of those clippings cause there was alot of information I know you would find interesting. I am not sure if I can get my cousin to make copies and send me or not. She works alot and I don't think she would have left the box of clippings for me when she left to go home. I just wanted to let you know this.
Tracey

Aunt Noami was at Aunt Charlotte's house visiting. She is a short lady. She reminds me of the woman in the movie "Poltergist". I have a picture of her from when I visited.
Tracey

The Daily Review, Decatur IL, 1 Aug 1907, pg. 10

Mrs. Charlotte A. Elwood died at 6 o'clock Thursday morning at the family residence 270 West North Street. Uric poison was the cause of her death. She had been a sufferer from rheumatism for three years, but not until last Sunday did her condition become serious. Wednesday evening she seemed to be improving, but in a few minutes before 6 took a sudden turn for the worse, and in a short time passed off into a peaceful sleep.

Charlotte A. Suits was born in Herkimer county, New York, on July 23, 1831, spending her early life and receiving her education there. On February 23, 1854, she became the wife of Casper Elwood and the couple moved to Decatur in 1856. Mrs. Elwood lived in her house on West North street for over forty years. To the union were born four children, Misses Cora and Lulu Elwood and Frank and Cliff Elwood, the latter having died in this city in 1904. Casper Elwood, who was a prominent man here, died fifteen years ago. Mrs. Elwood is also survived by four sisters, Mrs. D. L. Bunn, Mrs. L. W. Cass, both of Decatur; Mrs. J. N. Tinkham of St. Louis and Mrs. Hattie Ellis of Syracuse, M.Y. Mrs. Cass was the only sister present at the time of her death, Mrs. Bunn being out of the city. During the early part of her life in Decatur, Mrs. Elwood was a figure in society circles, but for the past few years, she has been living a retired life. The funeral services will be held at 4 o'clock Saturday afternoon from the residence at 270 West North street.

Macon Co. Old Settlers Assoc. obituaries.

Clarice Ellwood B 1904 Whitehaven, Harold B 1909 and Ivy B 1919. All were born in Whitehaven. I think that Ivy married John Lowden. Possible that Harold married Frances Herdman. I do know that Clarice was married but no idea to who. She had a daughter Marjory. I think that Clarice and her husband ended up in Glasgow and my father once put an ad in the paper there looking for Marjory (His cousin). Really hard to put this together but if anyone knows the family of any of the three please let me know. Appears that Harold passed on in 1984 still in Whitehaven area.

Hi, I don’t believe we have the same family. My Richard Elwood b. Mar 1722/1723 at Westport, Fairfield, Connecticut, married on 20 Feb 1742 Rachel Davis, christened 2 Aug 1724 at Fairfield, Fairfield, Connecticut.
Their children were:
Rachel, John, Samuel, Eliakim, Joseph, Thomas, Abraham Brooks, Isaac, Isaac J., and Stephen.
I don’t find a Margaretta among the children. My Richard was the son of John Elwood and Elizabeth Godfrey.

Much of my information came from “History and Genealogy of the Families of Old Fairfield.” There is still quite a bit of information in the books that I need to research. The books are available on microfilm through the LDS Family History Centers.
William H Elwood, grandson of Henry Shaw Elwood

William Henry Elwood born 17 Dec 1866 in Monroe, Jasper County, Iowa, was the son of Azariah Sinclair Elwood, and the grandson of Henry Shaw Elwood. I had always thought the William Henry Elwood never married, but now know he did. I have gotten more answers from my father, and I have found him in a 1900 Clear Creek, Colorado census, listed with a wife of about 12 years, married about 1888. She is listed as Mary A, 32 and born in California in Jan 1868. Father born in Canada, and mother in California.---- In the picture posted here, I'm wondering if the girl sitting on the right holding the kitten, might be his wife.

In the picture, standing is William Henry Elwood, and sitting on the left is his sister, Martha "Mattie" Elizabeth (Elwood) Silverthorn.
The girl on the right holding the kitten, does anyone know who she is? Is she William Henry Elwood's wife Mary A ___?

Thanks, Teri Johnson

Gordon Elwood is my great-great grandfather on my mother's side. The only additional information I have is that possibly his first name started with a "C" and his middle name was actually Gordon. I'm working off this assumption for awhile and taking it a step further and assuming the "C" stood for Clayton, as this is what Gordon's son, Frank, named his first boy. It's a long-shot but trying it out for awhile. I do not have any other information, but willing to share with you.

Steve

I searched your other posts and found a number related to my family in the Caroline County, VA area. Could you tell me your connection to these families (Donahoe, Farmer, Mahoney, etc.)? You also posted a question about my aunt and uncle (Parsell). I would rather do most of this conversation off line, especially since it relates to some people still living.
Kudos to Iowa. they were smart enough to do State census' every ten years, and they did it on the "fives" which means that Iowa had some kind of census every five years.
which makes it very easy to track people, especially the women as they married.
USGENWEB.ORG
maybe Missouri did the same and you canfind your information
cj
