I am trying to get a different take on my Embury family and wondered if they were among the immigrants in 1707. They didn´t move on to U.S. so there has to be an English line.

Looking fo any information family of Alben (albie) Embury. Alben was bore in 1857 in Hamilton Ont. Alben lived In Standish Mi.for a time then settled in Jackson Mi.
His siblings were Benjamin b.1853 ,Charles ,Thomas, Donald and one sister Mrs.R W Johnson.
Some of his brothers lived in Lewiston and Standish MI.
Alben's father name was I believe David.
Any help would would be apprecieated.

I am looking for information re. my ggg grandparent's David Embury (b. March 30, 1810) and Hannah Dillenbeck (b. 1814). All I know of their descendants at present is one son (my gg grandfather) Byard Embury who married Rachel Ruttan in 1859. According to Edith Berry's book on the Embury's David & Hannah had nine children. Does anyone know anything about Byard's eight siblings?

Do you have any info on Deborah Embury? She married Thomas Wagar UEL from Fredricksburgh in Lennox and Addington County, Ontario. She died sometime before 1790 and she and Thomas had three children: Mary (born Mary 8 1787), Elizabeth (born Jan 15 1789) and Abbie (born either late 1789 or early 1790).
I've been in contact with other Embury researchers and no one seems to know who she is.

I too belong to this line. My line goes through Phillips brother David. It wasn't until this year that I had the connection.
It goes from Phillip and Davids father, Andreas Imberger.
David's son Andrew 1758, son Andrew b. Nov 16 1796, son James Edward b. 1828, daughter Albina Jane Embury b. 1859, son, William John Embury Tate b. 1889, daughter Mildred Alice Tate, son Robert William John Barlow.

If you are connected to this line in any way, please contact me so that I can fill in many of the blanks and many of the lines I do not have. Eric Johnson was a big help. It was his research that connected my family back to Phillip. He supplied our missing link of Andrew b 1796.

Quite possibly that Benjamin as a 15 year old was not living at home at the time of the census perhaps he was living on a farm somewhere else. The census for 1881 has been put on fiche and most record offices have the entire collection for England, a check might reveal the where-abouts of Benjamin.

I think I may have a good possibility, not a sure thing though, and unfortunately Philip's parents aren't given. On the 1901 Census of Hinchinbrooke there is a Philip R. Embury aged one, living with his Grandparents Ernest Embury and Melissa Babcock. I have Ernest's family back quite a bit further and have some of Melissa's family as well as she is related through another line.

Again, this is not a sure thing, but the dob is right, and the proximity of Hinchinbrooke to Kennebec enhances the likelihood. This Philip is the only one in Ontario 1901 that could fit.

If it proves that this Philip is right, you could get the birth record to find his parents. I think I saw a website that someone will do this for $5.00, if that's an option I'll see if I can dig up the site.

hi Willie: I only have reference to their one Daughter Erma Merle Godfrey b. Oct. 25, 1924. So, Philip and Luella were probably b. abt.1900.

I never heard of J.W. Embury until just a few days ago. A friend of mine in Florida just happens to have a piece of his work. He must have had some connection with Whistler because the piece of his art came from a house owned by one of Whistler's patrons - Thomas Hecker who at one time had the largest mansion in Detroit. Philip Embury, b. Ballingarrane, Co. Limerick, Ireland, baptised September 29, 1728, Parents immigrants from the German Palatine.

Embury m. Margaret Switzer on 10/31/1758, daughter of Christopher and Elizabeth Switzer of Courtmatrix, Co. Limerick, Ireland.

It's believed Embury emigrated from Ireland June 9, 1760 and arrived at Pecks slip in New York on August 10, 1760. Traveling with Embury were his brothers David, Peter and John and his cousins Paul and Barbara Ruckle Heck.

Embury founded the first Methodist Church in America in NYC. He later established a Methodist Episcopal community in Camden Patent in upstate New York in present day Ash Grove, near Cambridge, Washington Co., NY.

Son of German refugees from Palatinate. Educated at the village school and apprenticed to a carpenter. Became an itinerant preacher and helped to build the Methodist church at Courtmatrix, Rathkeale. Emigrated to New York 1760, where he worked as a carpenter and schoolmaster. Began preaching again in 1766 and in 1768 built the first John Street Methodist Church, the beginning of now widespread American Methodist Episcopal Church. Migrated to Washington County, New York, 1770. Died Camden (actually the Camden Patent) Washington County, August 1773.

I am looking for any information to do with my Embury Family Tree. So far I know my Great-Grandparents are William Henry Embury (b:1867d:1955) and Elizabeth Jane Smith who lived in Blenheim, Ontario Canada. They had eight children, there names are William Henry (Harry), George, Fred, Gordon Leonard, Glen, Evelyn, Fern (m:Bond) and Hazel (m:Scoyne). Elizabeth also had a son named Edward Smith.

There son William Henry (Harry) Embury (b:1902 d:1935 or 1936) is my Grandfather. He married Vera Elma McBrayne in 1922 and they had two children, Bertha Jean Embury (b:1924)
(m:Kenneth McAleer) and William Alexander Embury(b:1928).

William Alexander Embury is my Father. He married Jean Evelyn McRae in 1954 and they have five children, William Brian Embury (b:1955), Kenneth Douglas Embury (b:1956), Carole Dianne Embury (b:1957) (m:Robert Douglas McFadden), Lorraine Gail Embury (b:1959) and Stephen Alexander Embury (b:1963).

Now that I have found out who my Great-Grandparents are, I would love to find who there parents are and where they came from. If there is anybody who knows this line of the Embury Family I would love to hear from you.

Have you come across any members of your Embury family with the surname Ambury, or Hanbury?

My grandmother was born in Bibury. Her maiden name was Smith, and her mother's maiden name was Seats. In 1901 Marion Smith of Bibury married John Hanbury of Monmouthshire. I wondered if there was any connection between the Emburys of Bibury, and the Hanburys of Monmouthshire, and this was how the marriage connection was made. Do you think that Embury and Hanbury are corruptions of the same name?

Actually, I think that this Margaret was Andreas Imberger's sister. I have her married to Sebastien Ruckle, although I show no Katherine Elizabeth b. 1700, most of the children I have listed for the couple were born later.

Benjamin is my great-grandfather. He is listed as a dairyman, age 35 in the 1901 British census, birthplace, Birmingham, Warwicks. In the 1881 census, he ought to show up as a 15 year old. There is an Embury family living in Birmingham in 1881(head of family: Charles) with kids about the right age, but none is Benjamin--I've tracked them up to the 1891 census. Who is he? Did he take this family's name? Does anyone know?

You may be referring to my grandfather Benjamin Martin Embury, emigrant to Canada from England, who served with a Canadian regiment during WW1 and was still in England in 1919. I have his military records.

Unfortunately it is all on the Emburys who came to North America. I have seen some of your posts and find it curious that the England Emburys are not connected. There is one son of Andreas Imberger that records do not have family for, John b. abt. 1720. I wonder if he is the link.
