John Erne / Mary Miller Family Photo, Huntingburg, Indiana

I purchased this photo at a local flea market (Eugene, OR) and am NOT related. The photo is of the Erne family from Huntingburg, Indiana. John Sr (1837 Germany - 1912), wife Mary Miller (1841-1922) and their six kids.

Hi Paula, not sure if you are interested, but I recently purchased a large photo of the Erne family. It has John, Mary and their 6 children: Elizabeth, William, John Jr, Mary, Franklin and Otillie. I am not related, but make a hobby out of buying identified photos at antique stores, flea markets, etc and trying to get them to relatives who actually want them!

My name is Jim Erne, years ago my Great Great Grandfather Carl Erne and Great Great Grandmother Fredolina left Gippegin, Switzerland (Canton Aragau) for Kelleys Island, OH USA.

In July of 1862, they sailed for the US, through the port of Le Havre, France to New York on the ship Ina Russell. From there they settled on Kelley's Island, which is an island located on Lake Erie in the state of Ohio. It is obvious they were following earlier Erne relatives who had previously emigrated to the area, most notably Jakob Erne (whose name was changed to Jacob Erney upon entering the US), who settled in Sandusky Ohio nine years earlier in 1853. Descendants of Jacob are numerous in the Sandusky area and they have a reunion every two years there. It is widely believed that the Erne's of Kelley's Island and the Erney's of Sandusky are related, but exactly how is not clear.

Karl and Fredolina were part of a larger immigration to the Lake Erie area which included many Germans and Swiss, particularly those associated with the wine business. Kelley's Island at that time was a major wine producer and was renowned for the high quality grapes grown in the shallow soil there. Karl was a part of this industry and was thus attracted to this island.

I'm interested in traveling to Gippingin, Switzerland one day to trace my family roots and hopefully meet some Erne's

My background is Swiss, my father (Andreas Erne, b. 1951 with two sisters with last name Erne, Annamarie and Monika) came to Canada from Hasliberg/Luzern. His father was Adolf Erne 1906 - 1959 (m. Hedwig Lutenauer 1916 - 1977), whose father was also an Adolf Erne and mother Karina (or Marina) Reichlin.

I have a Maria (Mary Anne) Erny, born about 1835. Who married my ancestor Christoff Feld 24 June, 1858 in the Pittsburgh area. Her parents are listed as Michael Erni and Catherine Kenzing. Any leads would be appreciated.

my great great grandfather was edward erne born in april 27 1839 baden baden germany married magdelena werner in 1866. magdelena was born in 1843 in basil switzerland. edward died april 28 1907 place coffeyville ks. have the names of their 8 children one of the 8 children was willian h. erne who is my great grandfather would like to share any information.

ERNE Immigration

I am looking for anyone that is familiar with the immigration process for 1866. My great great grandfather Edward ERNE came from Baden, Germany, according to the 1900 census. He was married to Magdelena WERNER from Basil, Switzerland. The first place I found them was in Kankakee Co., Illinois in 1870. I know nothing of the ports during that time frame. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Edward was from Baden, Germany and Magdalena was from Switzerland. They came to the US in 1866. I am not even sure where they came to. It is a frustrating thing trying to cross that time frame. It seems that the records are pretty good except from 1847-1880, naturally.

My great grandfather, Karl Erne, came over
in 1862 with his wife Fredolina Erne. From
family oral history they came from Switzerland
but this has not been verified. They then
settled on Kelly's Island Ohio. I have been
successful in tracing Erne's since then but
not before the crossing to America. Do you

I am up against a wall! My gggrandfather came here to the USA in 1866 from Germany(per 1900 census) The family stories tell he changed his name. No idea from what. His first residence on record was on the 1870 census in Illinois. Then on into Missouri and into Indian Territory (per 1885 census Oklahoma Indian census) Any Ideas? My maiden name was ERNE

I am looking for any help in linking Edward ERNE to his parents in Germany. He came to the US in 1866 and lived in Illinois... moved to Missouri and then on into Oklahoma. I am researching the Erney family from Switzerland that settled in Sandusky. Since family tradition said that the families are related, I have been working on the Kelley's Island people too.
