Johann (John) Ernst b abt 1848, Holslien (Holstein?)

Can any one on this list please help me with where I might find anything further about Johann ERNST. He was born about 1848 according to his Scottish Marriage certificate of 1878. He used John as his forename on his marriage certificate.

His parents are thought to be (the writing is very poor) - Father Jurgen who was a Master Blacksmith and had died by the time of his sons wedding. Mother Anna - initial letter of surname maybe 'A' but the rest (4 or 5 letters) are hard to read - who had also died by the time of her son's marriage.

The place of birth Holslein (could it be Holstein- Germany or Denmark?) in was noted in a document concerning his sea-going carrer as was his forename of Johann, he was master mariner up until at least 1896.

Thank you

Warneke in 1894, and had at least two children, Laura and Arthur Ernst),

Emma Ernst (b c 1857),

Lena Ernst (b 1861, maybe married Richard Hedrich in 1882),

Frederick Ernst (b 1865, married Regina and had at least two children, Marion and Irwin Ernst),

and Rosa Ernst (b March 1868).

Any information on these people appreciated.

We have a birth cerificate with the father listed as Busguard Heinz August Ernst. He was born about 1930, died about 1997 and lived in Weisbaden, Germany as of abt 1950. We are told that he was a bus driver. I thought that perhaps Busguard was a title instead of a name. He was married for a short time to Maria Margaretha Schuck who later remarried a Fritsche. Any help would be great.

Thanks, Michael

Ernst/Jordan in St Louis, Missouri

I am looking for family connections to the following:

Edward B.(Ben/Benjamin) Ernst and Mary E. (nee Jordan) Ernst who adopted a child on Friday, April 8th, 1932 in the Circuit Court of St Louis County named Theodore Francis Cannon. This child's name was legally changed that day to Ferdinand Joseph Ernst. Although, all of his life, he went by Joseph Ferdinand Ernst. His original birth date was August 20th, 1931. He is now deceased as of October 21, 2003.

Joseph Ernst never married nor did he have any children.

I have the original adoption records and Joseph Ernst's Certificate of Baptism at St. Lucy Church on Jennings Road in St. Louis, MO.

His adoptive father, Edward Ben Ernst, lived on N. Nineth Street in St. Louis MO in July 1919. I have his discharge papers from the Army. He was discharged from the army while on a train in St. Louis Union Station that was destined for Kelley Fields Texas.

I also have an old empty envelope that was mailed to a "Mrs. Ella Ernst on Arsenal Street in St. Louis, MO" from a "Schulteheurich" in St. Charles, MO. Maybe a family connection?

I need to find relatives and connections to Joseph Ferdinand or Ferdinand Joseph Ernst via his parents names of Edward B Ernst and Mary E (nee Jordan) Ernst. Other than names, I don't have any birth or death dates for anyone other than Joseph F. Ernst.

If anyone has any information on family connections, I would be most grateful for that information.

Rev. Johan Friedrich Ernst (1748-1805) PA, NJ, NY

I am assisting an elderly researcher, who has nearly completed a draft of the life of Pastor Johan Friedrich Ernst, who came from Strausburg, Germany and served the Lutheran Church in America. Searching for additional family information, portraits, documents pertaining to this pastor and his family to include in her work.

Ernst married twice; his first wife died of consumption. From this union, he had one surviving daughter, JULIA PHILIPINA ERNST, who married JOHN ADAM TREHER (sometimes spelled with a D). By his second wife, ELIZABETH JAEGER (YAEGER) he had several children: JOHN FREDERICK ERNST, JR. who settled in Cooperstown, NY and manufactured silverware; WILLIAM GOTTHOLD ERNST, who studied for the ministry at Princeton and served in the Lancaster, PA area; JOHN CHRISTOPHER ERNST; ELISABETH MARGARET ERNST; CHRISTINIA ERNST; and MARIA JUNTA ERNST. The last four are mentioned in Ernst's will. From a posting on another genealogy forum, we had learned that MARIA JUNTA married AMOS BUCK of Haverhill and Bucksport Maine on Sept. 18, 1822 in Lebanon, PA.

Proper credit for assistance will be acknowledged. This pastor served various congregations in eastern PA, NJ, Cooperstown, NY, and Lancaster Co., PA. His biography will be an interesting study of life during the late 18th century.

I have much info on the Ernst family but need much more recent info.

Kathleen's grandfather and my mother were siblings. Her grandfather, John Ernst (married to Mary Hoss) was caretaker of St Michael's Cemetery on 18th St. Pgh, PA.
Ernst family in Bloomington

Hello!

I am looking for information about descendants to Jonas Alfred Jonsson Ernst, born June 24, 1852 in Husartorpet, Ömmastorp Östergård, Skede parish in Jönköpings county, Sweden. He emigrated to the U.S. in 1881 and died in Bloomington October 19, 1895.

When he emigrated he emigrated together with his brother Johan Ernst. The brother later came back to Sweden and returned to the U.S. again in 1888. He must have returned to Sweden again because he died in Sweden.

According to Emibas Jonas Alfred Ernst Jönsson (Jonsson) emigrates with his wife Anna Charlotta Jönsdotter and their daughter Thilda Gustava Jonasdotter Ernst. The wife Anna was born August 18, 1839 and Thilda (Mathilda) was born 1879, september 24.

I find Anna, Thilda (now called Tillie) in the 1900 census for Bloomington, Minnesota. There is also a son called Carl born in 1881 in Illinois and he is working as a mine laborer.

I also find the family in the 1910 census, still in Bloomington.

According to the 1920 census Mathilda is married to a David Parido and her mother Anna Ernst is living with them. That is the last thing I can find about the family and I can't find the son Carl after the 1910 census.

I would greatly appreciate any help in tracing these people and if Mathilda and/or Carl had children I would be very interested in finding them.

Best regards,

Ann-Louise
Martin Ernst in Illinois from Bahlinger-Baden

I am looking for information on Martin Ernst. He was born @ 1814 in Bahlinger-Baden, was married to Anna Buerkin, emigrated to the U.S. between 1852 and 1860. He and his children (Annie, b. 1844; Christiana, b. 1845; Martin, b. 1848; and Michael, b. 1851) in the 1860 census were in Quincy, IL. I don't find records of him or his wife Anna in German data bases. Does anyone have any good online German databases I could access? I don't know if his wife Anna emigrated with him. I do know all of his children were born in Bahlinger-Baden. My family is tied through Christine Ernst who married Georg Hild, their child Anna Catharina Lydia Hild who married John Frederick William Landwehr, and their child William August Landwehr. I am, however, trying to trace Martin Ernst and wife Anna back to Germany.

Recent research has taken the ancestry back another two generation to Johann Ernst of Halgenhausen. died before 1704. This research ties together two of the distinct branches of Ernst families in Hessen Kassel. Anyone researching the Ernst families from this area my contact me for information. There are still some Ernst families in Hessen Kassel that do not yet connect to the line I am researching but I have some information as they have intermarried with other names of research interest.

I am looking for information on ancestors of Elizabeth Ernst (1893-1956). She was my grandmother, and my father said she had family in Lorain County that she would visit. She married Fred Mischka (abt.1910-1920) and died in Lucas County, OH. From looking at census I think her parents may have been John and Johanna, siblings Katy, Conrad, Antony, and her grandparents Henry and Eliza. But I am not 100% sure if it's the same Elizabeth. Any help would be appreciated.

Ernst Family from Kingdom of Hannover

I have the privilege of initiating the first message on the Ernst forum.

I have information on the earliest usage of ERNST as a family name (945 AD) and also documentation on changes to ERNST during the middle ages such as the change by Ernestus I who changed his name to Ernestus Ernst I.

Now on to my roadblock: I am looking for ancestors of Herman Ernst, who lived in the Kingdom of Hannover; born in 1815 -- probably in the town of Hildesheim; had a son Herman born in 1837; they both emigrated to the United States by the early 1850's as they were already registered to vote by the 1860 census.

The elder Herman Ernst settled in lower Manhattan and had a hotel at 80 Broadway. His wife's first name was Luissa.

The younger Herman wound up on Staten Island, NY and married Mary E. Goblet who was born in France around 1840.

Our tree is posted at FamilyTreemaker.com and MyFamily.com

Any information would be appreciated.

John August Ernst

Does anyone have any information on a John August Ernst who was born Oct 1, 1831 in Lippe Detmold, Germany. He was married to Johanna (surname unknown) in Germany prior to 1852. They immigrated to America in 1863 and settled in Illinois, later moving to Howard county, Iowa. Their children consisted of Helena (b. 1852 Germany), Dietrich "Richard" (b. 20 Mar 1855 Germany - d. 7 Aug 1940 Los Angeles, CA), Infant son (b. bet. 1860-1863), Johanna (b. 1874 Illinois), Henry (b. 1875 Illinois), and William (b. 1879 in Howard co., IA). John's first wife, Johanna, died on their farm in New Oregon township, Howard county, Iowa in 1894. John remarried to Mrs. Caroline Hohn on 23 Jan 1896 in Cresco, Howard co., IA. The church record of their marriage lists John as Hermann August Ernst. John died on 9 Sep 1902 at Dell Rapids, SD while visiting his daughter's family.

I would like to know if anyone knows more about John Ernst's second wife, Caroline Hohn, or anything about John's first wife, Johanna, and their children.

Thank-you!

Larry Shoger

Amelia Grah, born c. 1827 in Solingen, Prussia, to Peter Daniel and Caroline (Muller) Grah, married a Mr. Ernst. Amelia Ernst is listed as the beneficiary of her mother's will in 1878 in Randolph County, Illinois. Perhaps Amelia Ernst lived in Missouri, as the Grah family lived in St. Louis after coming to the U.S. c. 1845. Any info on Amelia Ernst or her family is appreciated. Thanks!

I have been searching for any information about an Ernest Erfort/Erfourth, but I am curious if possibly his surname was Ernst and he came from Erfurt (family legend is that we are named for Erfurt, Prussia or Erfurt is named for our family). I know that he (Ernst Erfurt) m. Louisa Boenning 1873 in Livingston Co, New York, USA and moved to Michigan by 1880.

Any information or clues or leads about this possibility would be very greatly appreciated!

Ernsts of S.Dakota, ND, and Lodi, CA

I'm researching my husband's Ernst ancestors for my kids. Unfortunately, unlike the rest of the family tree, the Ernsts were not big on genealogy, so I can't trace them very far back, or very accurately. Since Ernst is my childrens' last name, any information you might have to lengthen the story would be GREATLY appreciated!

Peter Ernst (of Prussian or Ukranian descent -- no date of birth or death known) married Sofia Lagge (French -- no date of birth or death known). They lived somewhere around Pierre, South Dakota, and later moved to Lodi, California. (Incidentally, it's believed Peter's parents came from North Dakota.)

Peter and Sofia had: Amil (Ernie), Ruben, Clara, Martha and Arthur.

Arthur Ernst (b. 4/10/21, d. 1998) married Ruth Memory. They had two children: Gerald and Judy.

Gerald Ernst (b. 3/25/43) married Adrienne Rickey. They had two sons: Brian and Mark.

Brian Ernst (b. 3/25/68) is my husband. He is no longer "stuck in Lodi," but we do visit frequently. ; )

They had Dorothy, Charles, William (twins) and my grandfather, Donald Ernst. After 1921 they moved to Colorado. I am at a complete dead end. Any information would be helpfu.
Thanks,
Valerie
