Latest information that I have on this line: Gothard [of]Espenschiedt b. circa 1600 Espenschied, Rhientarden m. Elizabeth or Elizabeth Gennant b. 1604. They had: 1)Thomas Peter Espenschied b. 1625 in Espenschied, d. 1687 in Kriegsfeld (he married Judica Lotz); 2) Hans Jacob Espenschied b. 1627 Diethardt, m. an Ela (b. 1631); and 3) Elizabeth b. 1629 in Diethardt (she m. Herman Daman). This generation apparently participated in the migration from the town of Espenschied to Kriegsfeld. Thomas Peter E. and Judica Lotz had six children: Johannes Goddard (Gerhard) E.(b. 7-10-1664 m. Maria Catharina Kettinger on 1-16-1687 in Siefersheim), Johann Hans E. b. 1-5-1669 Kriegsfeld; Anna Eva E. b.& d. 1672; Johann Hans Heinrich E. b. 1666 Kriegsfeld (m. Magdalena 'Anna' Ohler; Johannes Jacob E. b. 1730 in Siefershiem m. Anna Margaretta Renner; and Anna Sara E. b. 1694. Johannes Goddard (Gerhard) E. & M.C. Kettinger had 6 children: Johannes Nicolaus, Hans Adam, Johann Rudolph, Anna Elizabetha, Veronica, and Johann Martin. Johann Rudolph m. Maria Magdalena Hoffman on 2-1-1724 in Siefersheim. They had 2 children: Johannes Adam E. b. 10-2-1729 in Siefersheim and Johannes Nikolaus. This Johannes Adam E. m. Anna Barbara Jung on 8-23-1768; they had 4 children. I am descended from TWO of their children: both Johannes "John" E., Jr. b. 10-16-1781 (m. Anna Catharina Fitting on 3-30-1812 in Siefersheim), and also his brother, Johannes Nikolaus E. b. 10-17-1786 who m. Johanna Marie Bieher on 5-22-1809. I lack information on A.C. Fitting and J.M. Bieher. Johannes "John" migrated to Lyon, Sodus, NY, as did his nephew Adam H., son of his bro. Nicolaus. Much of this info is from Lloyd Espenschied and christening records.

I am interested in the Wayne County, NY Espenscheids. I believe they were neighbors of my Fuchs/Fox family in the late 1800's. There was a Philip J. and his brother lived in Newark, NJ who made fine fur hats. I would be interested in sharing information with other researchers/relatives.

Other Espenscheid relatives lived in Brooklyn. Nicholas Espenscheid, Jr. married Estelle Corbin Brown there in 1896.

Ola Antonio,
I`ve already tried to contact you, but I´m not sure you noticed. At this moment I´m looking for shipping-lists. I want to know from which port Balthasar Espenschied starts. My hope is to find out more about his hometown. In that case I´ll be able to find community archives. This isn´t quite easy for a beginner in ancestors research. Do you know more ? There also is a statement in some website. Balthasar would come from Essen/Hessen/Germany. There has never been a town called Essen in the country of Hessen. What does it mean ?
Maybe there are relations between our parts of the family. My own investigation was been stopped round about the year 1888 in which my Great-Grandfather was born. If I would know his parents and their hometown I should be able to find archives.
Do you already have contacts to the Espenschied Family Union ? I guess you have. This thread is very old. Am I too late ?

Hi, my Great Grandfather was Frank Espenscheid from Ohio. He had 4 kids, Willis, Lillian, Helen, and Clarence. They all grew up in Ohio. My Grandfather was Clarence. He only had one child, my Mother. Clarence was the only child of Frank Espenscheid to have children. My Mother dosen't know anything about my Great Grandfather's family. I have some pictures of his family and would love to know who they are. My mom thinks he had a sister named Ella, but that is all she can remeber. She thinks he was born 1876. If you know anything or think you might be about to identify any of the people in the old family pictures I have I would be happy to email them to you and see if we can put some names to the picture. I would also love to know more about his family. Thank you so much. Sandy email address sfvb23456@yahoo.com

Dear Sir,

I too am tracing my Espenschied family lineage. I noticed you posted "Gothard, Johann Adam, Johann Nikolaus" and am wondering if there is an overlap with my research? I have on my tree a:

Andreas Espenschied
(B: 8/7 1729, M: 7/14 1750, D: 5/25 1799)
Johan Nickolaus Espenschied
(B: 10/8 1682, D: 2/22 1769)
Gothard Espenschied
(B:?, M: 6/30 1674, D: 2/23 1708)
(don't have any further back then Gothard)
You have a Johann Adam between Johann Nickolauss and Gothard though. Do you have more information on them to determine if yours or mine is more accurate or perhaps these aren't the same people at all. Those names are probably pretty common for that area and time.

Sincerely,
Wendell Esbenshade

I have some Espenschied or Espenscheid's in my family tree that married Skyhawk's. I am still looking into this information. I have a Ella (Juelson) who married John Espenscheid. They have at least two daughters that married Skyhawks. One is Maggie (Margaret) who married Zephaniah Frank Skyhawk and the other is Emma who married Caushious Skyhawk. I believe Zephaniah and Cashious were brothers. There parents names were Lewis and Mary.

Ella (Juelson) was born in Norway, 22 Feb 1832 and John Espenscheid was born in Germany, 02 Mar 1831.

I do have more information and I will be happy to share with you.
