Stella,

Thank you so much for the information. Please email me so we can compare notes. You certainly have done a very extensive research on the family. I have a book called: "Alamos de Sonora" by Manuel Santiago Corbala Acuña. I have been reading it, and it is very informative. I tell my own children that what our ancestors were in their time is what makes us who we are now. My email address is: pchomina@yahoo.com
All the information regarding your family tree up to your ancestors, Juan Salvador Esquer and Michaela Amarillas, can be found in familysearch.org. They were the patriarchs of the Esquer family name in Sinaloa and Sonora. This Juan Salvador
Esquer arrived in Mexico from Spain in 1688 with his brother Miguel. I have records found in the archives of Spain and Mexico, and I am currently working on a book about the family. I've been able to trace the family back to the late 1500s in Spain.

Stella

Stella,

Yes, it does sound like the same Esquer branch. Bruno Esquer born in 1804 also had four brothers. Salvador, Rafael, José María, and two sisters Trinidad and Nieves. His parents names were Rafael Esquer and he married Rita Cano de los Rios ( from Spain) in 1800. The Bruno Esquer born in 1804 was my grandmother's grandfather and he died around the 1880's. A great uncle wrote this in 1933 and it has been passed down to the family.

Hello Pricilla,
I have a Bruno Dionicio de Jesus Esquer baptized on Oct. 8, 1804 in Alamos. He is on the family tree of Salvador Esquer who came from Spain in 1695. It looks like your Bruno Esquer might be the same person that I have on file.

Stella

I am doing a genealogy search on my "Esquer" ancestors. My grandmother's grandfather was Bruno Esquer born in 1804 in Alamos, Sonora Mexico. I have a document written in 1932 by Ruperto Esquer; my grandmother's uncle. Please let me know if you are from this same branch.....We all come from good stock!

Thanks "mucho"

Priscilla

Searching for descendants of Joseph Cayetano Esquer and Juliana Astorga; Miguel Antonio Esquer and Ygnacia Carrasco

I am working with other genealogists in compiling a complete genealogy of the Esquer family that settled in Culiacan, Sinaloa, and Alamos, Sonora in the late 17th century. We are preparing the Esquer genealogy, covering the Spanish colonial period, as part of of book to be published about the Esquer family. We have Y-DNA evidence linking the origins of that branch of the Esquer family to Navarra, Spain. Because there is a of lack of documentation, we have not succeeded in linking Joseph Cayetano Esquer (married to Juliana Astorga, Sept. 1740 in Alamos); Miguel Esquer (married to Ygnacia Carrasco Feb. 1717 in Alamos) to the Sinaloa-Sonora trunk of the Esquer family tree. Please contact me if you are a descendant of either of these two couples we would be delighted to hear from you. The early settlers who founded the Esquer name in Sinaloa and Sonora are: Juan Salvador, and his younger siblings, Miguel, Blas, Fernando, and Augustina.

Hi Alyssa,
Only a male in your Esquer family can participate in this DNA test. Your father or brother would both make good subjects. Ancestry.com bought the company that did the original tests, and I don't know the current cost, but I imagine it would be between $100-200 dollars.

I hope this helps you out a bit. If you are an Esquer from Sinaloa or Sonora, Mexico, your family's DNA would likely match.

Stella (Marie) Cardoza

We know she married Juan Garcia and they lived in La Estancia, Sonora (according to the 1930 census)were they had about 11 children Manuel Garcia Esquer is the oldest and my husbands grandfather, then follows Guillermo, Adelina, Aurora, Rosario, Miguel and I am not sure of the others.
I have a considerable amount of information regarding the first Esquer family of Sinaloa and Sonora. To assist you in your search, the website familysearch.org has an index of baptisms and marriages for the Alamos and most of Mexico. This is how I traced my family to the first Esquer family. After you have created your genealogy, I will be happy to send you more information. Please see Francisco Almada's book "Diccionario de Historia, Geografia y biografia Sonorenses" which tells you about the first Esquer family in Sonora in the early 1700s. Your relationship to the first Esquer family can be proved through ADN analysis.

Hi!
I'm new at Ancestry.com and just browsing this out of curiosity (the usual). I have a grandmother (mother's side of the family) named Eulalia Encinas who died sometime in 1998. I just want to find out the lineage of the Encinas Family. I'm from the Philippines. Thanks for any help.

DNA Analysis Provides Esquer/Ezquer Family Missing Link

My name is Marie (Stella) Cardoza, and I have been researching the Esquer family for over 20 years. My Esquer family tree descends from Francisco Joseph Esquer and María Nicolasa Murillo. The family is primarily, but not exclusively, from Culiacán, Sinaloa and Alamos, Sonora, Mexico. This family connection dates back to the early 1700s. Juan Salvador Esquer, who was born in Isaba, Navarra, Spain immigrated with his children to Mexico in 1695. His children established the Esquer name in northern Mexico, but I have not had any success finding documentation to prove how Francisco Esquer was related to Juan Salvador Esquer, until now. Turning to science, I have recently proven that relationship through Y-DNA analysis. DNA was gathered and analyzed through a simple painless cheek swab. If you are a male, and carry the name “Esquer/Ezquer,” you might consider participating in the Esquer Family DNA Project. You can do so by going to the Relative Genetics website at www.relativegenetics.com or calling them at 1-800-956-9362. You can also contact me at alamosresearch@yahoo.com for more details. If your DNA matches, your family connection will be proven, and you will become part of the Juan Salvador Esquer Family Group. This will entitle you to use the Esquer family tree that I am preparing to share with members of the group, at no charge. However, there is a charge for the DNA analysis. I have no financial connection to Relative Genetics, the laboratory that is conducting the DNA analysis. I am simply offering this opportunity as a courtesy to serious Esquer family researchers.

According to the "Diccionario etimologico comparado de los appelllidos españoles, hispanoamericanos y filipinos" by Gutierre Tibón, The name Esquer is Basque and means "left handed". In Spanish the word for left is "izquierdo". The French var. are Esquerré and Esquier. The book also lists some Italian and German variations, but says nothing about having any English roots. Over the years I have referred to other books, and Esquer is always listed in being Basque in origin.

Camilo Esquer (son) Camilo Esquer or Esquerre (Father)

I was very excited about finding this site because I have been searching for many years on the origin of our Famiy. This is what I have been able to find out. My Mother's maiden Name is Guillermina Lopez Esquer born in 1926 in Hermosillo Sonora. Her father was Cenobio Esquer Rodriquez. He was born in Alamos Sonora and lived much of his life in Hermosillo and Ures in Sonora. He died in his eighties having 6 children, two daughter, my mother included, lived in California and everyone else is in and around Hermosillo Sonora. My grandfather's father was named Camilo Esquer. He married and Yaqui, daughter of a Rio Maya tribe chieften by the name of Rosa Maria Rodriquez. He apparently fathered many children from a number of wives over time. Some of his children are in Cananea. The story has it in the family that Camilo Esquer's father came to Alamos as soldier to work in the silver mines during the Spanish Colonial period. His name was also Camilo but the family said that his last name was pronounced Esquerre. I am also told that Camilo Esquer or Esquerre lived and married in Alamos. I have yet to find proof of this and would appreciate any leads you can provide. I would appreciate your response.
