I know this thread is several years old but I'm hoping the persons that posted are still following this thread. I'm a descendant of William Essington and Margaret Jane McClaren. My great grandmother was Cora May Essington. I'm still in the Clinton County area and would love to make contact with Essington relatives.

Essington connection

Does anyone have in their Essington family the following surnames BESTWICK or HUEY? I have a Walter Essington Bestwick born 1876 and a Essington Blondell Huey born 1880. This is an uncommon name and I do not find it anywhere else in my tree. I am guessing there has to be a connection to the Essington family somewhere. The Bestwick family arrives from Staffordshire, England in 1834 and the Huey family we believe came from Northern Ireland and were here early enough to have been in the Revolutionary War. The Bestwicks settled in Mercer Co., PA and the Hueys were in Lancaster then Fayette Co., PA before ending up in Mercer Co., PA The earliest Huey is a Robert and his wife is an Esther (we believe) maybe she was an Essington we have no last name for her. If any of this rings a bell please contact me, I'd love to solve this mystery where Essington comes into this family. Thank you.

Re: James Essington Susan Gibson in PA IA

Nicole - All of us Essington researchers have come up with different results over the years. One of the confusions has to do with 1779 James' mother. I've learned that 1736 Joseph first married Catherine Campbell 1 Mar 1770. She had two sons, Joseph & Thomas, and a daughter Elizabeth. But Catherine and baby Elizabeth apparently died about 1775 in Chester PA. 1736 Joseph then married Sarah Bean 28 May 1776 and Sarah cared for his two young sons while he served with the militia in the Revolutionary War. Our 1779 James was then the first-born son of Sarah Bean. Does that make sense to you? I'm also told that the record of exiles from England & Ireland is from the Bean famiy Bible. Are you descended from 1805 Joseph & Sarah (Reddick)? I have records for their 7 children; which one is your line and where do you live? Please write me at ggwen@centurytel.net.

Eric - I know that Fred can answer many of your Essington questions because we shared all our information several years ago. Do you know that your Mallerys are buried in Greenwood Cemetery south of Lakeville MN? I lived in Apple Valley, north of Lakeville, for 25 years. I would just like to ask all the posters if anyone has found anymore information on the original Joseph Essington who married Catherine Campbell & Sarah Bean? My new address is ggwen@centurytel.net. Evidently Ancestry.com automatically forwarded the latest messages to my new address.

I'm guessing you're the same Ryan on the Essington facebook group? Anyways, I have seen different versions of the Essington Family crest as well. Some do look like they've been thrown together to make a quick dollar on a plate or t-shirt. But anyways I got a hold of a book that talks about the Essington family crest. I'm going to use it to collect information and find which crest is for real. I'm also a graphic designer so I'm going to edit the crest into a high resolution format. You can keep in contact with me at bessington@bethanywv.edu

Susan,
Rachael Mary Clayton is my Great-Great-Aunt.
Her brother, Albert Essington Clayton, is my Great-Great-Grandfather. Mary Essington named him after her brother, Albert Essington (1859-1924), whose grave you found. Frank Essington (1882-1936) is the eldest child of Edward Essington, another of Mary Essington's brothers.
My Grandmother, Evelyn, wife of Harold R. Clayton, did a fair amount of research on her side, and some on the Clayton's side. The tree I have, on the Essington side goes back to Thomas Essington and Mary Pearson, no dates...parents of John Essington, who was George Essington's father. On the Clayton side I have only back to James Clayton, b. England, father of Samuel Clayton, and grandfather of John Clayton, Mary Essington's husband.
I am hoping to find some information further back on both the Essington and Clayton lines.
Do you have anything earlier in either line?
Feel free to email me with any questions.
For anyone looking for members of the Essington Family

My first childhood friend was Shirley Essington.

She was born in Danbury, Conn. in June or July of 1939.
She had a brother named "Eddie".
Her given father spent time in prison in Wethersfield, Conn. for raping Shirley when she was 5 years old, if reports I received are correct.

Shirley and I met at the Long Lane School 1953-1954. I was released care of my mother in Washington, D.C. After a while, Shirley's mother remarried one William Dickmann, and they got custody of Shirley around 1956 or 1957. The last known address was 2860 Bailey Avenue, New York, NY which I understand is in the Bronx.

But Shirley disappeared. All of a sudden I received no answers to my letters when she used to write me every week. Then Long Lane School contacted me to find out what her latest address was, since her release papers from the State of Connecticut were returned to Long Lane School in Middletown, CT.

I have never found her since. Her mother never wrote me, but there was a rumor that Shirley had been murdered. Perhaps her mother did not want to upset me, since Shirley and I were just like sisters. At any rate, to this day, I have no idea what ever happened to my best friend.

I don't know if this will help you or not.

The copy in the Noblesville library had more pages to it---if you want to get it through inter-library loan....

Also, I've been to Noblesville twice and have pictures of many of the graves..... Let me know if you're interested in seeing some of them.... I have digital copies.

Donna

My mother was an Essington from Keyesport, IL. She attended Carlyle High School. We still have many relations living in the area. Matter of fact, there is a family reunion this coming weekend (July 26 thru 28) at one of the farms that is still in the family.

As far as the names you have given, I am not sure. My Uncles have done a great deal of family searches that have led back to 1700s. They would know more specifics. My mothers e-mail is mudderofiveboys@aol.com. She might be able to help you out.

If you don't get a responce from her, please let me know and I will see how I can help.

Hi Craig,

I am trying to put my husband's part of the whole Essington clan into some sort of order. I do believe that your and my husband's lines are the same. His g-grandfather, John Essington, was born in England of George and Sarah (Scott) Essington in March (?), 1849.

I have recently (like yesterday) received a response to a message indicatingthat they were married in Sutton St. Edmonds, Lincolnshire, England on April 26, 1836. Sarah was buried there on January 5, 1855 (age 38) and he soon remarried a widow, Mary Buffhan, and emigrated almost immediately with his whole family and, I think, her 2 children. They lived in DuPage CO, IL briefly and then he moved to Plainfield, IL where established a blacksmith shop, purchased a farm and lived out his days.

John maried Clara Olson in Grundy CO on 2/11/1875. She was Swedish, the daughter of Charlie and Elizabeth Olson. I don't know if the parents immigrated, but Clara said she arrived in 1872 on the 1900 census of Ford County, Mona township. John's brother George also lived in that township. There were caboodles of them ... seems they were quite prolific.

That is about all I have, but I hope to get to the cemetery in Plainfield
after the weather improves.

Are you aware of any other data?

Judy Fulton
If this sounds right, contact me. I would love to share information as I am also trying to fill in holes.

Craig Essington (jciniowa@home.com)
