Jody, I'm Marie's mother. The way I have it figured, your husband and Marie would be 3rd cousins. His father and my husband would be 2nd cousins and his grandfather, Michael and her grandfather, Joseph would be 1st cousins. I just know read these threads. Very interesting stuff, you've found. I'm excited to read it. Now, how de we explain two different individuals named Michael coming to Ashtabula, OH at approximately the same time. I wonder if they could have been cousins instead of brothers.

Maire, i forgot to mention his great aunt Anna Puchan married Micheal Estok around 1900 and i somehow have it they married somewhere in New York im not sure thats just what my papers say, my friend gathered for me, not 100% sure they got married there. i have Anna Puchan- Estok birth date as May 26, 1878 and her death date as July 1953. her brother John Puchan, I have them coming from Benoce, Czechoslovakia. i guess late 1800's. no exact date. and they would be my hubby's great aunt and uncle. i have no parents names for Anna and her siblings yet and i may never have because I dont go back further to the home country because i dont have that expertise. well i have Anna and Michael Estok having 10 boys as well and NO girls. and i see the name change for Joseph from Estok to Estock.im gonna have to sit and think about the cousin thing that you and my husband are on the Puchan side. but you are cousins just dont know the number between you yet. :) would you happen to know if Elizabeth Puchan ever left the home country? i have nothing on her i was assuming she was a nun there and never left. the childeren of the UnKnown Puchan line are..John b. 1886, Anna b. 5-26-1878, Susan Puchan b about 1891 and Elizabeth (no b date), no evidence she came to the US. i have John dying in Ashtabula Feb 27, 1965 and Susan March 28, 1984, in Ashtabula. and Anna, death in Girard, July 1953.. and like i said nothing on their sister Elizabeth. I have John having 11 kids with Elizabeth Thomas, both from Czechoslovakia. my hubby's grand father was Michael Woissol child of Susan Puchan and Micheal Woissol. they had 7 kids. one of the female children.. Anna Woissol named after her sister Anna Puchan Estok. i found Anna Puchan Estok obit and it states Mrs. Susan Woissol of Ashtabula as her sister so there is no doubt there. obit date july 20 1953. i have her immegration year as 1899. her burial was in Fairview Cemetary. then i have your grandfather Joseph T. Estock passed, Feb 17, 1997. child of Michael and Anna. so im sure you and my husband are cousins. everytime i look for my line i run into his Estok- Puchan - Woissol line im beginning to think i have no direct line of people alive anymore. :( my nephews my be the end of the line of the name Estok and if they have girls the name will end with them. and there are only 3 male Estok nephews. i cant find any cousins of mine with Estok at all. well at least my husband does. thats odd i never thought i would find Estok in his line, but i sure did!

Marie, this Michael Estok thing even confused people I know who are prety good at geneology stuff. ok like i said Carey Estok is my nephew, however he is older than i am by 2 years. my geat grandfather was Michael Estok and my geat grandmother was Bertha i dont have her maiden name yet. and my great - great grandparents were Mike and Susie I am assuming it was the first Micheal because my great grand father was Michael Estok Jr.( married to Bertha) there are so many Michael Estoks in the family lines that i am pretty sure we are somehow related as well but me and my husband i think are distant inlaws type of thing. I live in Colorado and cant just go look up stuff back home in Ashatabula. I have a friend working on this with me, who knows more about this stuff than I. My husbands stuff is..his great aunt (im pretty sure it was great aunt) was Anna Puchan(the moved to Girard, Erie County PA) b/c his great grandmother was Susan Puchan who married Michael Woissol. its pretty confusing!! yeah my great uncle John (i went to the funeral with my dad) was born in 1910,so it cant be the same and he was buried back home. so not the same there. you know i really think all Estok's and Estock's are related because my sister works with a Slovak or Hungarian lady and she told my sister the Estok's are still there in the homeland so its pretty neat but very confusing with all these Michaels everywhere, and I found out they named their kids the same "family first" names and had them around the same time, which makes it more confusing. I wish you luck, if you have any questions feel free to post something and i will try to check out what i have for you. i think you and my husband may be more related than you and I, but I am still trying to figure out all these people, i got alot of info all at once and it got a bit confusing to say the least. hope to hear from you! jody

Hi Marie, this is Jody Estok- Woissol, I just read your message and my nephew is Carey Estok. He was a basketball player at Harbor high and did graduate in 1991. I was researching my husbands line and he is a descendent of the Puchan line. his great grandmother was Susan Puchan who married Micheal Woissol and his great aunt Anna married Micheal Estok, i thought it was my Estok line and there was that in his.... so funny, but we are from the same small town and i thought all Estok's were somehow related. guess not!

Hi Jody,

I think there might have been 2 Estok brothers that came over from Slovakia (then Hungary, around 1898 or so) and settled in Ashtabula. One was my great-grandfather Michael, who married Anna Puchan, and had 10 sons (sons only, no daughters). Who the other brother or other Estok line is, I have no idea, but I was always curious because there was a Harbor High School basketball player who should have graduated in 1991 (Carey Estok I think) who was in the same grade as me, but I went to Conneaut. I think that Estok line is related to mine, but like I said, it's just speculation on my part. Do you know who your great-grandfather Estok might have been?

One of the 10 sons I mentioned above was my grandfather Joseph. He changed his name to Estock shortly after he moved off the farm. All the sons (except the oldest and 2 youngest) were born in Ashtabula, but the whole family moved to Fairview, PA. I don't think any of them moved back until my Dad and Brother moved to Ashtabula. The oldest son was named John and he was born in 1902 and died in 1990 and buried in PA, so I don't think he is the same John that you went to the funeral with your Dad.

Maybe we can pin down the relationship between your Estok line and mine. I'm sure we're related...somehow.

Marie

I also forgot I just found a memory card of my great uncle's funeral his name was John Estok he was born November 7, 1910 and passed away July 26, 1991. I remember my father and i went to his funeral when i was a kid. He was buried in Edgewood cemetary in Ashtabula. I am wondering if the descendants of Micheal and Anna moved back in sometime of their lives to Ashtabula (?).Two of the boys names of Anna and Micheal were Micheal and John, my grandfather and great uncle maybe?

My fathers middle name was Anthony and I am unsure if my grandfathers middle name was Anthony. I think my fathers middle name was Anthony because his mothers fathers name was Anthony. (Anthony Bartone) She called my dad Junior maybe because his fathers name was Micheal too (? ). I dont know much about my fathers- father side(Estok) besides his name and as a young child at his house in Ashtabula. He died if i can remember in around 1980, I was very young. I have a step grandmother Dorothy Estok (widow of my grandfather, Micheal Estok) She in in her late 80's and is still to this day very emotional about his death. My father Micheal Estok (middle name Anthony) died November 2005. I would like any info any Estok has that may help me locate family anywhere or just maybe general info) Thanks Jody A.
Brandy,

I'm Marie, Joe's daughter who started this thread. My grandfather was the Joseph he was talking about who had the nine other brothers. His parents were Michael and Anna Estok. I don't think this is the same family because Steven and Joseph were brothers, not father and son. Our line goes:

Michael and Anna (Puchan) Estok had ten sons: John, Michael, Paul, Joseph (my Grandfather), Andrew, Henry, Steve, George, Emil, and one who dies when he was a child.

Sorry, but I don't think this is a match. Good luck!

Joannes Ivan Estok (1883-1956), father- Georg Jurij Estok, born in Certiz, Uzhorod District, Ukraine

Looking for descendants and ancestors of Joannes Ivan Estok born in 1883 in Ukraine, son of Georg Jurij Estok also of Ukraine and his wife Anna Guehar of Hungary. Joannes had several siblings-Bertha Europe Estok, Irene Europe Estok, and Charles Estok (abt.1880-1913). This information was passed along to me by a relative but I would like to confirm its validity and trace the family back further. Joannes Estok later married Anna Fejcanin in 1906 in Passaic, New Jersey and they had at least 8 children: Johannes Francis, Anna, Michael, George, Helen, Irene, Margaret, and Veronica . These children were born in Passaic, New Jersey, Bantry, North Dakota and Chicago, Illinois. Anyone having information on this family is appreciated.

Hi Christy

Im Joe Estock grandson of Michael Estok of Fairview. My fathers name was Joseph and I was wondering if your husbands fathers name was Steven. The names you mentioned were all names of my uncles and my father

Other members of the family were Paul, George, and Henry. Henry is the only living decendant of the family of Michael. Michael married Anna in 1900 we have a copy of their marriage certificate.

If you are a decendent of Stevens do you live in or near Milford, Pa?

please keep in touch Joe
