Your William Etchells was the son of my gg-grandfather, William E. Etchells, married to Sarah Widall.

William and Ellen lived on Pecos Street in Denver in 1930.
Their children were Barbara, Robert, William and Donald. I have more information if you need. Let me know what you're looking for.

I am looking for a Great Grandfather of mine also called Charles Dunbar Etchells who I believe was born 1882-1885. I am wondering if it may be the same one as the one of the children of your Charles Etchells. I already know quite a lot about my Charles Dunbar Etchells inc that he was a Captain in WW1 with the Welsh regiment and a Barclays bank manager after WW1. I know more and I am happy to share if you think we are talking about the same man.
If we are, I would like to know more about his father, Charles Etchells.

Hi,

I realize that this is an old post and you may already have the info that you need but I can clear up the identity of "Maggie Bubbs" for you. Her married name should be Maggie Dubbs..."Bubbs" is a transcription error. Maggie is Margaret Etchells born 13 Jul 1855 in Ashton Under Lyne, Lancashire, England to Robert & Elizabeth Harwood Etchells. Maggie appears to be the oldest child and daughter of Robert and Elizabeth as they were married in Jan 1855. Margaret Etchells married Benton A. Dubbs in 1872. You will find Maggie Etchell Dubbs on the US 1880 census for Pittsburgh, PA with her children John & Annie Dubbs and Maggie's parents and siblings (the Etchells).

I believe that Robert Etchells may be the son of James & Margaret Hadfield Etchells. I have James born in 1793, Hooley Hill (sp?), England and Margaret born in 1797, Ashton Under Lyne, England. Their marriage date is 19 Jun 1814, Stockport, Cheshire, England.

My grandmother was Gladys (Etchells)and my great-grandfather was Albert Etchells and great-grandmother, Veronica (Murray) Etchells. There were Etchells in the Lafayette, CO area. I found this wedding announcement in the Lafayette News dated Oct 5, 1901:

"Married--Tuesday, October 1, 1901, at the residence of the bride's parents by Rev. Terrill, Mr. James Etchells and Miss Lizzie Bell, both residents of Lafayette. Miss Maggie Reese was bridesmaid and Mr. James Bell was best man. The newly wedded couple spent their honeymoon taking in the sights at the carnival. They have taken rooms in the Goodhue building for the present. We wish them a life of happiness."

Also, the Lafayette cemetery lists Samuel A. and Hermina G. Etchells.

I can tell you that the Etchells history goes back to the doomsday book,but more recently the area of cheadle/ cheadle hulme and chorlton was split between 3 brothers,hence the name cheadle Etchells.My Uncle was Jimmy Bowker,and whilst i dont know much of the Bowker history, they were Tobacco merchants in Burnley for nearly 200 years- this is well documented and i am sure you can reasearch this.

Robert Etchells and Elizabeth Harwood were married 22 Jan 1855 in Ashton-Under-Lyne, Lancashire England. St. Michaels Church. Elizabeth Harwood's father is listed as as either John or Richard Harwood. Not sure why? Elizabeth's mother is Mary Harwood.

Robert's line: Father James (born 1801 in England)
Mother Hannah ? (born 1801 in England)

If anyone can fill in blanks or correct the line, please let me know.

Etchells/Bowker family - please help!

Hiya, I'm new to this and have hit a brick wall, wondering if anyone can shed any light for me ..

My gran's maiden name was Winifred Rose Etchells, born in Birmingham in 1912 (2nd Feb, died Nov 6, 1981) she had a sister Catherine Hilda Etchells, known as Hilda.

Her BMD listings state that her mothers maiden name was Bowker. I know that she died young, when Hilda was about 10, Hilda was born 1909.

I can find a Catherine Bowker who fits this, but no details at all for her father. However, I can find a marriage listing for an etchells (Tom) to Catherine's sister Annie, in the 40's ...

I have been told that Mr Etchells was wealthy and that his mother was possibly Kate McCormack. He owned horse racing tracks around the Midlands area apparently.

Does anyone have any info that they can pass on that would help, even slightly please!!!

I am on a limited budget and so cannot buy certificates, which is obviously not helping!

Hi Robert/Donna You don't know me, but my husband is Chris Hazle, his dad was Ted Hazle. Ted had a sister named Rose Hazle, who married George Etchell, they had two sons, Tony and Graham. Chris remembers you, do you remember him? We have tried to contact Donna through Genes Reunited, but as yet have not had a reply.
Please reply, we would love to hear from you, and will be able to give you lots of information on Rose Hazle's family.

James and Lily are my wife's grandparents. Her father is their son James. Would be interested in any informationyou may have. I believe that James parents were Robert and Elizabeth (Beaty). Lily's parents were Thomas Reynolds and Ellen (Sixsmith) Reynolds.

I have a James Etchells in my "wider" family tree, born 1857. I've been adding a lot of additional Etchells running from James Etchells b: 1772 = Hannah Hedson b: 1770, Droylsden, so if you would like any further info pse don't hesitate to contact me.

I've just discovered that my grt grt grt gfather was a Thomas Etchells. He would have been born around 1810 must likely in the Ashton-U-Lyne or surrounding area ( Lancashire, Cheshire).
The Thomas Etchells' on the 1851 census and in world trees dont seem to match with other family info that I have.

For Etchells missing from Census returns try any combination of the letters forming the name, and some that don't! In other words try saying it aloud in possible dialects or scrawling in a tired, not very erudite hand. My husband's line are in the 1881 as ETCHES. Good luck Veronica

Johns age was given as a minor, occ Joiner of Half Moon St, Dukinfield, father - Thomas Etchells, occ Engineer.
Maria's father was Joseph Mellor, occ Overlooker

Hi Veronica,

Sorry for your loss......The John Etchells I refer too was born in Staleybridge in 1838 and he appears on the census of 1861 but already married and not living with his parents.
I was looking forward to finding out where he was living in 1851 as a13 year old ...hopefully I would see parents and siblings or even a grandparent if I got really lucky.
Unfortunately he does not appear to be listed at all which is most disappointing.

I married one, but sadly he died three years ago. He was not from your branch but from Stockport and Salford. First firm date I have is marriage of a Robert in 1850 in Salford.
Suggest you try Census returns, now widely available on net.

Then all my letters after that did not get answered. I started this project to make a nice memory book for my mother. I wanted to included a little longer Family Tree. Yes I can help with those details, Edith Etchells is my Grandmother.) She was married to William Etchells who yes, unfortunately passed away. His father was Willie Etchells who married Kate Taylor. Willie's father was James Etchells who was married to Sarah Jolly. I believe that Willie had a brother Richard and also a sister Maude. If you wish to contact me again, I would like to hear from you as I think we a definately related somewhere down the line!

My grandmother was Maud. Actually she use to joke about her name... Mary Emma Maud Etchells.... ME ME, then she married and became ME MY.... Mary Emma Maud Yates. She passed away in 1990 in Deland Florida. I recently came across the parents of James Etchells.... Joseph and Elizabeth or "Betty". I believe Jospeh Etchells father to be Benjamin.

Nice, I don't have your Grandfather in my list of children. Since I have not had much luck in my research on this line it is not uncommon to have missed persons. I and my mother have tried to write her cousin Edith "Katy", but have not received an answer yet. We are hoping she is still alive, since we have not received the letters back. Do you have a copy of an article on William Etchells death around 1996 in Derby? Heard he was either heading to or coming from a soccer game.

Just wondering if there are any links between your Etchells and the ones I know about in my tree? I have Hannah Etchells born 24 Jan 1846, father William,bricklayer and mother Catherine nee Brown. I was brought up in Newton Heath which has a boundary with Failsworth. Newton Heath is a district of Manchester and Failsworth is part of Oldham.
Hannah Etchells was born in the London Rd sub district of Manchester which is approx 2-3 Miles from Newton Heath /Failsworth.

Hi me again. I decided to go back to the IGI Records which half the time i dont know how to use that site. But got a bit of pot luck. You mention above Luke Etchels Christened on the 22 March 1807. Well he is mine! :)

Luke parents are James & Mary Etchels.

Found out James & Mary had - Aaron, Hannah, Henry, Darmaris, James (my line), Samuel, Anne, Rose, Betty, Luke, William & Sally.

My Line James born 28 Oct 1798 went on to marry Hannah Hibbert in 1822.
