Dear Janet:
I am attempting to do a little research on my family tree and found a bible with an inscription to my great-grandmother signed Ann Etty of Sleaford. My great grandmother was Annie Brothwell of Lincolnshire, who came to the US in the 1880's by herself. She married my great grandfather, Frank McKnight and had 6 children settling in Spring Lake, NJ. There is an Ann Etty listed in the UK phone book who lives at 25 Douglas Road, Aylesbury (zip) HP201ES (Buckinghamshire County) I might try to contact her to see if there is a connection. I do not believe that she ever came to N. America, though. The Ann Etty of Sleaford died on 1/8/1886. If you come across any info on her, please let me know and I will do likewise. Happy New Year. Barbara Benham, The Woodlands, TX.
Hi Frances:

I have 2 pieces of news re your research. First, the bad one. Sorry to say that you are not related to William, the painter.

However, your research does connect with ours. Although we do not connect with the family from Bridlington, we do connect further back. Your 3X great Grandfather was Robert and his wife was Sarah. These same people are the 4X great grandparents to my husband, Brian. I can go back further than this.

I can give you quite a bit of info re your Etty's. Your Charles Manson Etty was the son of Charles and Jane. They appear on the 1881 census. At that time, Charles M was listed as 5 months. His father, Charles is the son of William and Ann. William was the son of Robert and Sarah. Our ancestor was Susanna, daughter of Robert and Sarah. Drop me a line and I can fill you in on a lot of info on your line going backwards from Charles M.

My email address is
janetlovegrove@home.com

Hope to hear from you soon.

Cheers
Janet Lovegrove
Brampton, Ontario, Canada

Hi Charlie

What info do you have on Thomas? Have you any idea of when he was born? His wife's name? Was she also born in England? What were his children's names? Have you any idea of where in Ontario he lived before emigrating to the US? Do you have any other info of Thomas that may help? I have done some research on ETTY in Yorkshire, England. There is also some ETTY researchers from Ontario but I need some more info even if it is his approx. age and wife's name.

Contact me at
janetlovegrove@home.com

Cheers
Janet Lovegrove

Hi Barbara

I do not have any known connection of ETTY in Lincolnshire, although you never say never. However, a quick look on the 1881 Census finds Ann Etty living in New Sleaford, Lincoln and shows her birthplace as Sleaford. It lists her daughter Elizabeth ETTY but also lists a son and grandson with the surname DANIELS. Also there are other ETTY families living in Sleaford. What year was your great grandmother Annie Brothwell born in? If you think she may have still been in England, I can check the 1881 census. Do you have this census? You can contact me at
janetlovegrove@home.com

Janet Lovegrove
Brampton, Ontario, Canada

My father was Frank Etty the only son of Ada and Charles Manson Etty who emigrated from Bridlington in 1911. Charles M was the son of Jane and James or Charles Etty. Charles M and Ada were both tailors and emigrated because the Jews were monopolising the rag trade in England. They found things were the same when they arrived here in Australia. Frank was born 1.5.1914 in Ballarat.
Charles' siblings were Frank, Hannah Maria Gofton, Elizabeth Ann Brown, Georgina, Tryphena Foster. The family lived at 27 Princess St Bridlington.
I've put my information in a safe place and can't put my finger on it at this moment.
I'm just dabbling so far in looking up the family tree, ie I look up the net every now and then in case I see someone who looks a likely relly.
Hope this is of some use to you.

Dad said we went back to the Huguenots. We like to claim William The artist as a great grandfather until we found he wasn't married
Yours faithfully
Frances Edwards
