I don't have any info on Benjamin except he was born in 1780 and died in 1849 but I know he married Pininah Teabout 4/2/1819 and had ten children. Besides Daniel Dempsey Eure born 1822-10/4/1929 the children were Elisha, Mary Rebecca, Emily Milly, Joseph, Lavinia, Ann Annis, Jethro I, and Riddick. I checked but at this point I don't have a Stephen whose father was James. I hope this helps. If you do find any more on Benjamin would you let me know. Thank you.

I now have the will of Capt Charles Eure from the NC Archives. It is a clear will dated Jan 26, 1811 and probated in FEB 1816 by oldest son Levi. Lists all of his children and what must be step children from his 2nd wife. Also lists by first name slaves designated to his wife and his children. Still hung up on when and how his granddaughter Emma Eure Powell and her husband died leaving 8 kids and no record after 1850.

Bobby:

My parents visited Gates County numerous years ago and talked with a lady at the library, Joann Russell whose grandmother was a Cullens. Going backwards towards Stephen Eure, the family names are Lodge, Collins (my grandfather changed the last name from Cullens to Collins), Parker, and Eure. There is a Cullens cemetery on the Lambs-Howell property, but either few or no headstones. My records show that Stephen Eure daughter, Clarkey married John Parker. Their son, Bray Parker married Nancy Williams. Bray and Nancy's daughter, Charity "Chissy" married John Cullens. Their son, Amos married Tatamus Whitley. Amos and Tatamus son, John married Bessie Irene May. John is the one who changed his last name after his divorce from his first wife, Ida. John and Bessie's daughter Hazel married John William Lodge who are my parents.

Terry Lodge
terrylodge47@gmail.com

Stephen is Ancestor #: A037382 and the last person to join by number sequence is Nat'l #: 818330, thus probably no earlier than 2005. You could go on line or write for that record ($10) or one of about 10 more. That one goes Stephen, Theresa Eure, John Sparkman , Elizabeth Sparkman, Texie Anna Crawford, Lillie Maie Harrell and remaining generations not available on line due to time frame. They do not make information available when members of the generation may be living.
Since Lillie Maie did not die until 1973, it is likely that the DAR member having this national number is living. The point of Name Restricted is the grandparent of the current member listed above.
The Said -- Name Restricted -- was the child of

Elisha Thomas Parker born on 18 - Apr - 1879 at Eure Gates Co NC died at Eure NC on 14 - Nov - 1960 and his ( 1st ) wife Lillie Maie Harrell born on 15 - Nov - 1882 at Gates Co NC died at Suffolk VA on 15 - May - 1973 married on 8 - Jun - 1902 married at Eure NC

Since your daughter is a member she can ask her registrar to look up the line to help her do a supplemental. I am trying to do a supplemental for Capt Charles Eure. I do not have nuch to help me.

Sory you have no answer. His brothr: EURE, CHARLES Ancestor #: A037381 Service: NORTH CAROLINA Rank(s): CAPTAIN, PATRIOTIC SERVICE Birth: 1740 VIRGINIA Death: 1-29-1811 GATES CO NORTH CAROLINA Service Description: 1) PAID FOR GOODS OR SERVICES RENDERED

I need a will for Charles that names Levi Eure as a son (Gates County, North Carolina Records, will book 2, p. 122)and also a will of Charles's father-in-law John Sparkman, naming the children (Levi) of his deceased daughter Mildred.
Needs to be in a form DAR will accept. Levi Eure left a will dated November 22, 1843 and it names all 6 of his daughters. My ancestor is Emaline/Emma Eure Powell and I have nothing to prove when or how she died or where she might be buried. She and John Powell (born in VA) were there in 1850 with 8 children and he owned the slave Emma inherited in 1843 from Levi and two slave children. No sign of any of them in 1860 except their 8 children can all be located. I will post another entry on Stephen and DAR.

I think that you spoke with my daughter, Jessica Carvara. I remember answering questions for her to forward to you. The house in Swansboro was passed down from generation to generation as a family house and went to the person most financial able to maintain it for the family. It's last family owner was Dr. Richard Fox (Flora's daughter Flo's son) He made two mistakes - he died young and he divorced and remarried right before he died. The first wife forced the sale of the house and it's contents. There was a piano there just like the picture you sent my daughter. I use to play it when I was young. The story was that when the yankee's came through the piano and silver and other valuables were sunk in the swamp to hide them from the yankees. I cannot verify the truth of that but I can state for certain that the piano played with an erie timber.

I thought that I scanned and emailed Jessica a copy of the aution papers that included a picture of the piano for you. I am presently living in the BVI and those papers are in storage in the States.

Glen Thomas Eure (my cousin) handled the estate auction for my Great Aunt Zelma Mattocks Merril. He is much older (70's) than I am and grew up there rather than visiting like I did. He lives in Nags Head, NC and owns the Ghost Fleet Gallery. He doesn't do the internet so you would have to call or write to him.

I am interested in all you find out. As I said My great aunt Susan Mattocks did merry and move to Florida. She returned to the Swansboro house when she was old and she and Great Aunt Pet (Zelma) and Great Aunt Dot (Dorothy Mattocks all live together.

I have many more stories... my email address is rockportboats@yahoo.com

Priscilla Simpson

Well, glad to have found you. The person who told me the Eure's moved to Florida was the owners of a Mattocks home in Swansboro, NC. The home had been inherited by the Eure's, was my understanding, but sold at some point. Do you happen to have any information on the Mattocks/Gibson side of your family? I am looking for information regarding the piano that was once given to Mary Gibson Mattocks by her father. Also, I have some unidentified photos and I think one is of Mary Gibson Mattocks. Do you have any photos to compare it to, or know of someone in the family who has old photos? I descend from Mary's sister, Caroline. Thanks for your response!

Hey Rachel! You made the right connection! Granny doesn't know much and when you try to talk to her about it she becomes really irritated. Tom doesn't want me to talk to her about it, even though he is the one that wants to know.

Ironically I ran across William Thomas Eure's death certificate yesterday. It lists his father as William Elliott Eure and his mother as Mary Elizabeth Pope. I haven't been able to go back any further (although with this new information I might be able to now.).

If you are interested, I have lots of other information (and some very interesting information about Granny's family). Email me deure@union.lib.nc.us.

I am married into the Eure's of Halifax County. I don't know that I can be of much help to you. I recently have started looking into whether or not the Eure's are related to the Eure's in Gates County as many are. My husband's grandfather is listed in your list.
William Thomas Eure III married Susie Evelyn Marks. They had two sons. Evelyn is still living (93) and one of her sons is my father-in-law. I would be glad to share more if you are interested. Like I said, don't know that I can be much help to you, but you've helped me. 'Granny' is a little out of it and I don't know that she knows much about the Eure's. I'll ask though.

I saw your question in the forum. I believe the Mills Kenneth Eure (b:21 Mar 1885) and Flora Blanche Mattocks Eure are my Great-Grandparents. My Grandmother was Mary Francis Eure, who married John Winston Simpson - she later changed her name to Jill E. Simpson. My grandmother had a twin brother, Jack. Mills & FLora had 7 children, I believe:
Betty Eure F
Billy Eure M
Flo Eure F
Harold Eure M
Jack Eure M
Margaret Eure F
Miles Kenneth Eure

If you have more information on FLora Blance Mattocks or any of their children, please let me know.
Just getting started and I am already stuck!

I am looking for information on William E. Eure (b. abt. 1815) of Halifax County, NC. Very interested in who his parents were.

William E Eure was married to Martha E. Eure. They had two children, Ann E. (or Anna E.) and William Thomas Eure I.

William E. appears to have died between 1850 and 1860.

Ann married R.H. Shaw in Halifax 20 December 1860.

William Thomas Eure I was married to Elizabeth. They had 6 children: Lottie M. (b. 1887); Mary Ellen or Ellie (b. 1870); Ada H. (b. 1892); William Thomas Eure II (b. 1891); Charles (b. 1892); and Sadie Bell (b. 1895).

William Thomas Eure II married Mary B. They had one child -- William Thomas Eure III (b. 1919).

William Thomas Eure III married Susie Evelyn Marks. They had two sons.

From William E. Eure in 1850 through the present they live in Halifax County.
I'm looking for information about Dempsey Eura Brittenum (b. NC 1788, enumerated in Anson Co in 1820, d. MS 1848). The name is so distinctive that I can't help but think he was related to the family in Gates Co. Also, he named his oldest son Mills. Is there a daughter in anyone's tree who might have been his mother? I suspect that "Brittenum" is a variant of Brittenham, who were in Maryland.

Any connection of Barsheba Eure and Stephen Leigh (Lee) will be helpful. They have eight children listed in David Powell's book, and I descend from Penelope (Penny) Leigh who married Michael Williams. Barsheba Eure Leigh died Feb 27, 1841 in Gates County, NC.
The McNair who married my GGrandmother Eure was Albert Jackson McNair. He was born in Walnut Grove, Leake Co., MS in 1862..Father John Martin from GA. Have a pretty good ancestry on the McNairs but can't find any information on Mary Florence Eure. All I know is that she was born 1870, possible Freestone, TX,, but moved to MS at early age...Died 1943 in Hattiesburg. I really appreciate your response...was hoping you could help me on the Eure side since from past postings you appear to have alot of info on the Eure's.
Would really appreciate hearing from you if you do run across anything on her. As far as I know all her children (7) and Grandchildren are all deceased, so have no family source of info. Thanks again...Ann

Bobby...Thanks a lot for taking the time to get back to me on our Eure line. I've searched for a long time and couldn't get a lead.

Mary Florence Eure b. December 14, 1870 married Albert Jackson McNair November 14, 1889 in Harperville, MS. She live in Hattiesburg most of her life and died February 14, 1870 in Hattiesburg. My Grandmother was their second child. They had seven children, all born in Hattiesburg.

If it helps to make a connection, Albert's sister Mary Arrie McNair married William Escourge Eure.

Hope to hear from you again soon. E-mail if you would rather.

Thanks again

Ann
