Marrriage
Ernest John EVE aged 19 married Lilian PINCKNEY aged 20 on 17 Aug 1913 at St James the Less Church Bethnal Green.

His Father was Benjamin EVE an engineer
Her Father was Fred PINCKNEY (deceased fishmonger)

The list above are some children's births found for the parents names of EVE and PINCKNEY in the Hackney Registration area which contains Bethnal Green.

They are very likely siblings of Winifred F EVE who was born in Romford in 1926. Check her marriage certificate to see if the Father's name is Ernest John EVE and you are on the right track.

Let me know if it has a different name for the Father.

Regards
Sheila
Just to make sure, there was no Albert BUTLER. BUTLER was the name your grandmother would have remarried in. The surname of the GROOMS are first in the list. The Butler in the middle of the marriage data is the surname of the bride.
That is the way they are printed out when searching.

So Winifred F BUTLER married Albert E GALE or on the other marriage Winifred F BUTLER married Alfred F LELLIOTT

BUTLER Winifred F -- Gale -- Southwark 5d 1178
Gale Albert E -- Butler --- Southwark 5d 1178

June quarter 1950 Worthing Registration District

Butler Winifred F -- Lelliott --- Worthing 5h 1076
Lelliott Alfred F -- Butler ------ Worthing 5h 1076

Regards
Sheila

Dear Jackie,

From the records I see that your grandmother Winifred EVE married in 1945 and had her son Graeme BUTLER in Romford Registration District December quarter 1947.

Searching on www.freebmd.org.uk I found the following marriages in the name of Winifred F BUTLER.

June quarter 1948 Southwark Registration District

BUTLER Winifred F Gale Southwark 5d	1178
Gale Albert E Butler Southwark 5d	1178

June quarter 1950 Worthing Registration District

Butler Winifred F	Lelliott Worthing 5h 1076
Lelliott Alfred F Butler Worthing 5h 1076

I am not saying that the above Winifred F BUTLER is your grandmother, but there is a good possibility. I did not find any children born to either of these marriages by a search from the marriage dates for 10 years after.

On the marriage certificate to Peter BUTLER it should give her Father's name and occupation. That same name will be on one of the above certificates if she remarried. It will cost you to get both, but settle your research for possible wherabouts after she disappeared.

Regards
Sheila
I am trying to trace my grandmother Winifred Eve. She married Peter Butler in Essex and may have later remarried. She had a son, Graeme and I am his daughter. I never knew my grandmother as she left the family when my father was young. Her initial is Winifred F Eve. I know this from looking at her marriage record to Peter Butler, Romford, Essex. It may be her mother was Lilian Pinckney but I am still looking. If you think it could be related let me know.

Re: VICTOR HENRY EVE

To find "descendents" of Victor Henry EVE and his wife nee RICHEL, use the Birth Registers at Ancestry.co.uk and search for any births for the surname EVE with the Mother's surname of RICHEL. It helps if you search from the date of the couple's marriage for about 20 years. These of course would be their own children. Those children then possibly married when of age so you could again search for marriages of those individuals. On finding the marriage partners surname you can again do the same to find children of those parents.

I am descended from a Richard Eve born 1769 in Hatfield Essex. That could either be Hatfield Broadoak Essex or Hatfield Peverell,Essex. He married Ann Searle on 27 Nov. 1797 in Hatfield Broadoak. In the early 1800's we find them in West Ham Essex where several of their children were born. What puzzles me is that Richard and Ann and all their offspring i.e. their daughters and husbands, their sons and wives and children all crossed the Thames to Balham, then a small village in Surrey.(Now greater London). There Richard set up many businesses. Hairdrapers, greengrocers, chinadealers, stage coach service, tailors etc. They appeared to have arrived around 1820's.
Richard dropped dead in The George Balham on 5th Feb.1841 aged 72.

I have been unable to trace Richard's birthplace or his parents.

JOHN EVE, transported to USA (Virginia?) from UK

John Eve was born in Chesterton, Cambridge, in England. He was transported to the USA for 7 years in 1756 for stealing lead from a house. He doesn't appear to have returned to the UK so I would like to know what happened to him.

If anyone knows, I would be very grateful to hear from them as I am a direct descendant. I think he may have been sent to Virginia, although I am by no means certain of this. He left a wife and children behind in the Uk and there are many descendants here in England to this day.

have come across an obituary for Adam Eve of Merion Township, Montgomery County, PA; who died in 1821 at age 104. It was published under the heading DIED in the November 29, 1821 issue of the newspaper "People's Friend" which was published in Little Falls, Herkimer County, NY starting in September of 1821.

DIED

"Lately- At his farm in Upper Merion Township, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania, Mr. Adam Eve, aged about 104. He emigrated from Germany into this conutry at the commencement of the Indian and French war, near 70 years ago. Upon his arrival in America, he was sold for a term of years to pay his passage; which term he served with fidelity. By his industry he acquired a handsome property, and raised a large family of children. He had no recollection of ever having the smallpox, nor even the usual sickness while crossing the sea. he never lost an hour from labour by indisposition, nor employed a physician, nor took any kind of medicine, in his life. he was completely worn out by old age."

I am not a family member and have no further information about this individual or why his obituary was printed in a Little Falls, NY newspaper.

Hello David

Hope this finds you well.

Susan and I are really looking for the parents of William EVE who was born in Ingatestone. I know that you have your EVE website covering 1837 onwards, but do you have anything on William (father John EVE a farmer)who would both be pre 1837 registration.

You will remember Roger Suckling who is an EVE researcher and the problem we had with Simon EVE of Little Dunmow. We must let you have the updates to this line. We found one or two skeletons in the cupboard. We have not yet found either of his marriages, both of which produced children!

Regards
Sheila Jones
sheila.jones@ukonline.co.uk

Dear ?

In order to check on your William EVE who married Eliza CLARK in Shoreditch, County of Middlesex in June quarter 1840, I tried to find them in the 1841 Census for Shoreditch. They were not in that Census to substantiate either age or occupation or if they were born in the County of Essex, rather than Middlesex.

Could you tell me in which census you found them, parish, his occupation and the census that give his birthplace as Ingatestone, Essex. I have checked some christenings for Ingatestone parish church and William does not appear.

As I am sure you can appreciate both William and John are common christian names and appear hundreds of times in the EVE records.

Regards
sheila.jones@ukonline.co.uk

Am seeking any information on Mary EVE, wife of Ebenezer HEMENWAY of Framingham, Massachusetts. Mary was born ca. 1712. According to Temple's History of Framingham, she was captured by Indians and redeemed in girlhood. Many WFT's indicate she was the daughter of Adam EVE & Elizabeth (BARSHAM) EVE but I can find no proof of her parentage. If somone has information that can help to substantiate who her parents were, I'd love to hear from you.

There is a John Eve 1825 born in Stourbridge, Worcs who appears on the Evetree - I'm not sure which family. An email to David Eve at the Evetree might be worth a try.
Hi Penny Thank you very much for all the information you have given me.Please could you let me have the information you have on the Eve marriages and deaths.

My brick wall is the same as yours only mine is with James Eve.I have found his marriage on family search. It says that James father was William Eve.I cannot find a William Eve on any census.I have found a death for a William Eve bet Oct - Dec 1846 at Faversham Volume 5 page 131.This does not tie up with the Mary Eve on the 1841 & 1851 census as she would have had more children after he had died.It gets very confusing as i have also found that James wife Louisa Relf her name has been spelt Ralph,Rolf &Ralf.I have just sent for James birth certificate it might help to know who his father is William or Henry.

I will keep an eye out for your Charles.
Thanks again
Janet

Wow!!

Penny, this is brilliant, thank you so much, it's going to be really interesting sorting this lot out.

Do you think there is a chance that Charles wasn't absolutely sure who his father was? if dad died when Charles was a young boy, he might not have known him very well?

And if these Eves are anything like the rest of my family tree, they were suspicious of authority and not too interested in complying with registration regulations - I imagine a number of events would have just not been recorded.

I think I might get a copy of the marriage certificates for Eliza and Olive - at least those might confirm the name of the father, possibly give other useful info.
Also, if you are interested, I have a copy of the death certificate and other details for the Henry Eve that i believe to be Samuel's father.

I would like to send you some paper copies of information I have. I am moving house at the end of this month or beginning of June - will also be changing email address. My private email is carolyn.bean@ntlworld.com. Would you send me your email or postal address? if you don't hear from me, I can also be contacted at work: carrie.bean@derby.gov.uk, but i'm unlikely to disappear completely!! I would be very interested in the marriage info you have. Also I have some monumental inscriptions for EVE, don't know if you have these.

Best wishes
Carrie

Hi All
I am researching the Eve family (my ancestors) of Boughton under Blean and Dunkirk, in Kent, England. I am directly descended from Emma Eve, daughter of Samuel Eve and Mary Nutting. And I need all the help I can get! I would love to hear from others researching same lines!
Carrie
