Hi Alasdair - I dont think that my ancestor, James Everest is the father or son that you are researching. I know very little of James Everest except that he was born in 1825 in Styria, Austria and died in 1905 in Adelaide, South Australia. His wife's name was Mary (Uln)and I think they resided in South Australia for all of their time in Australia. Hope this info will at least rule out this link for you. Leanne White

Flight Sgt Edward James Everest, Melbourne, Aus.

I am researching an ex-South Melbourne resident... He was Flight Sgt Edward James Everest, (Wireless operator) and next of kin in the RAF records I have recovered from 1945 were James Thomas (Father) and Gladys Irene (Mother) Everest who lived at 194 Napier st, S. Melbourne, Victoria. I have lots more info if needed. If I can get enough info on all the crew I am hoping to share all the info with the crew's descendants, and maybe publish a book if there is enough interest. The information the families got from the RAF was almost non-existent and I fear his family may not know what happened to them… I know my family had no info other than they were killed in action, and I have only recently been able to get records of the crew’s missions from when they got together in May 1944 to the night they were shot down. I also have records of the operation to recover their remains from a cemetery in Bochum and install them at the allied cemetery at Reichswald Forest. I am hoping to exchange what I know with Edward’s relatives, and perhaps get some background information from them. The crew repeatedly called him “Short Shirt Joe” presumably due to his warmer homeland that the Lincolnshire airbases! Thanks from Memphis, Tennessee, USA.
Hi Deidre,
Good to hear from another Loller relative. I have read the story of Sarah (Loller) Mountstephen's journey to Australia as Matron on board ship "William Money". A patient with severe seasickness died on board after treatment from Sarah. Have you heard this story? My Loller descendant is Sarah's brother, John, who married Eliza Lomman. They also came to Australia on the "William Money" with Sarah and her husband, Thomas.
Look forward to your reply, Leanne

Hi Nancy - I have previously "followed" your family tree. My mother is descended from John Loller (younger brother born 1824 of Mary born 1816 who married William Ewen). John & Mary are children of Thomas Loller & Martha Fouracre. John Loller (married Eliza Lomman) is my great-great grandfather.

Hi Pamela,
After some more research, I have discovered that Arthur Storer Dayman was married to Amy Loller. Amy and my grandfather, James Leslie Loller born 1880, are brother & sister. The Lollers were certainly "big breeders", as were the Barr family. James Leslie Loller married Rosetta Nellie Barr - I think that between the Loller and Barr family - most of the South Australian & Western Australian population must be related to either a Loller or a Barr!
Nice to make contact with yet another distant relative.
Leanne

Yes. My grandfather was a merchant banker. When the Nazis got into power they fled to Czekeslovakia and then Austria. My granfather was arrested by the Gestapo and spent several years in a concentration camp. My grandmother's maiden name was Brandenburg. After the was my grandparents lived in Schwalmtal, I forget the name of the village right now, but it was next to a very small town called Waldniel.

Looking for an Everest line. Frederick Everest born 1829 at Cape of Good Hope, Sth Africa. (married Margaret Nelly and died in Australia)
Children:Frederick, edward, Thomas, Albert, Florence

Parents: Charles Everest (an innkeeper) & Mary Barry

After a year and half of searching, I am inclined to think that Charles and Mary came from England. I am even out of 'longshots' and am hoping that someone has some info or even some suggestions that would help me.
I can trace from present to Frederick being born in 1829 at Cape of Good Hope S.Africa (from his australian wedding certificate).
Hi Keith,
Yes, I met Leonie once when she organised a big family reunion 2005. I was just getting into family history then and have followed my dad's side, John Graham and left my mum's side, Yvonne Ford, up to Leonie.

I stumbled on your post the other day when mum was here for Mothers Day and there had been a query regarding the familiy recently when someone had passed away. So I just started looking around and bingo...there you were!

Mum grew up on the farm at Campbell's Creek and once she and dad moved to Melbourne for their working life, the house became our weekender. So I have many fond memories of the farm.
My email is connell.julie@bssc.edu.au
Please write again.

Absolutely.

I'm descended from Thomas Everest (wheelwright), Charles's (c1788)eighth child, baptised 21 Mar 1824 at Farningham & living with his widowed father in 1841. In 1851 Charles is recorded as being born in Wrotham. I have Charles's certificate from his 2nd marriage to Annette Trodd which names his father as Charles Everest, farmer, deceased. I have other little snippets I've gleaned from the web.

Would really love to know more.
