Mary (Galloway) Everhart

I am looking for information on the parents of Mary (Galloway) Everhart (1824-1885) and her possible relationship to James William Galloway (1822-1898). Both were born in Virginia and lived in Clarke County as adults. Mary was married to Jacob Everhart (1817-1902). Another Galloway, Adolphus (age 13 in the 1850 census) lived with Mary and Jacob in 1850 and possibly until his death at age 18. He may also be a brother. James William Galloway also had another Everhart connection. He was married to Elizabeth Windham (1821-1882). She was the daughter of Thomas Card Windham (1724-1827) and Elizabeth Everhart (1800-1829). I think that Elizabeth Everhart was the significantly older sister of Jacob Everhart.

Does anyone know about, or might be related to the Everhart/Everhard family that lived in southern Cleveland County back in the 1890s and early 1900s? More precisely, they lived in and around the community of Box, Oklahoma, a small but thriving town during that period.

The name I show is only listed as "N. Everhart" though a couple times I've seen it as "N. Everhard."

I would like to learn more about this family and would appreciate any help you can give.
Sgt Lawrence Everhart of Middletown MD

I am trying to connected Sgt Lawrence Everhart to George Everhart and his daughter Catherine Everhart. Catherine Everhart married Hunter John Myers in 1798. Hunter John Myers was the subject of a book titled Leather and Silk, The Life of Hunter John Myers by John Esten Cooke. John Esten Cooke and the Morgan and Neville families are all buried just a few feet from Gov Edmund Jenning Randolph who was Thomas Jefferson's cousin.

It seems in the book, daughter Sally Myers attended Catholic Girls school owned by John Esten Cooke's grandfather in Martinsburg WV.

John Esten Cooke was born in the same house built by General Daniel Morgan at Amber Hill in Winchester VA. General Daniel Morgan's daughter Nancy married Presley Neville of Pittsburgh. Presley Neville was General Lafayette's aid. Presley Neville's father, General John Neville, was the head Whiskey Tax Collector in Pittsburgh during the Whiskey Rebellion of 1794.

By several records including a monument at the intersection of I70 and US40 in Frederick MD all state Sgt Lawrence Everhart saved General Lafayette's life. After that event, he stayed close friends with General Lafayette.

It is my understanding that Hunter John Myers, along with Hunter Tim Murphy served under General Daniel Morgan's sharpshooter unit at the Battle of Saratoga. Hunter Tim Murphy was the sharpshooter who killed English General Farzer at 400 yards while sitting in a tree. This incident was said to bring France including General Lafayette into the War.

Philadelphia Judge John Esten, the grandfather of John Esten Cooke, was an associate of Benjamin Franklin who along with Bishop John Carroll of Baltimore planned the Battle of Saratoga.
Photos of Catherine Everhart Cantwell and her sisters, father

I recently found the attached photos on Ebay. I am not related but they are interesting. The back of the group photo of the sisters contains handwritten identification of those in the photo: Catherine Cantwell, Emma Ballard, Martha McKinney, Jane Stewart, Amanda Hook. "These are my mother's sisters" signed by J.L. Cantwell (believed to be Dr. James L. Cantwell of Bucklin, MO 1861-1950). The other photo is of "Mile Hampton Everhart" grandfather of Dr. James L. Cantwell. Anyone recognize these people?

I am Christopher Ramsey's great-grandson. You said you wanted any and all information, so here goes:

Christopher served in the Union Army during the Civil War. He married Hattie Brown in 1863. Hattie was herself a Civil War heroine: According to family tradition, she carried military information through Confederate lines during Morgan's Raid. Afterward a steamboat was named for her. I have a picture of the Hattie Brown.

There were nine children. The first, a boy, died in infancy. I met all eight of the Ramsey girls.

Christopher said his parents died when he was young. According to him, he lived for a time in Thomas Morris' house. The Thomas Morris he refers to may have been former US Senator Thomas Morris, who lived nearby. Morris, Ohio's first Senator, was dropped by the Democratic Party after one term because of his abolitionist views. Morris died in 1844.

Christopher then lived with Andy Everhart. Census records show them together in 1850 and 1860.

I hadn't heard that Andrew served in the Union Army. He would have been a little old when the war started. I believe he wound up in Iowa, working in a paper mill. Census records show him there in 1880.

I think Margarette was a Ramsey. Christopher and William were likely her brothers. I had heard that William went to Douglas County, KS, just prior to the Lawrence Massacre in 1863. I don't know what became of him. I used to visit Lawrence on business at least weekly. I would have looked for William then, if I had only known.

I would like very much to know who Margarette, William, and Christopher's parents were. There is a family of Ramsey's who settled in and around Clermont. The patriarch of this family was Col John Ramsey, a veteran of the War of 1812. I believe I know where he is buried and intend trying to find the grave this spring.

Col Ramsey was the son-in-law of Col Thomas Paxton, a hero of the Revolutionary War and of Fallen Timbers. He served under Mad Anthony Wayne. Paxton wintered over in Valley Forge with Washington. He knew Hamilton, LaFayette, and a number of other significant figures in the Revolution. Around 1795 Paxton took a group of settlers, including two sons-in-law, to settle the Miami area in Clermont County, Ohio.

If Margarette, William, and Christopher were indeed part of this group, it would be important for all of the family to know. In any event, it would be good to know who their parents were.

POW/MIA Korean War, EVERHART

I am searching for the family of a soldier who was killed in the Korea War. When he entered service he gave Hamilton County, Ohio as his home of record. His remains were never recovered. Our government has no family contact at this time for this soldier

Soldier: ELMER EVERHART, JR
Born: 16 November 1932
Date of loss: 12 October 1951 MIA

When the Korean War ended the enemy never returned or accounted for over 8,000 of our servicemen. They died in their hands. That was over 50 years ago. Since that time DNA has been perfected and also they are recovering remains in North Korea. Our government is obligated to return those remains to the proper family. DNA samples have been obtained from most of the families of these missing soldiers. For various reasons some families have not been located.

When the remains are recovered and identified they will be returned to the family for proper burial. I am just an old (79years) Combat Veteran out of the Korean War and thankful that I did return. I consider this a very noble cause and I hope that you can help in some way to find this family. For more information on the project you may go to http://www.jpac.pacom.mil/. My part in the program is to match up the lost families with the proper agency.

I will be grateful for any assistance in locating this family.

Harold Davis
40th Infantry Division
Korea ’52-‘53
910-791-2333
hgdavis@bellsouth.net
I can find not one actual source of documentation other than from other public trees that this Robert is connected to my George in any way. I have written to the members of the public trees to see if they have census records, church records, something that proves the relationsip. So far I have not received any proof.

It was a long way around to get to Baltimore and then back here, Andy. My Great x 4 grandparents were George and Barbara Brendle Everhart,
their son, Henry and wife ABIGAIL THARP (1780-was my great x 3 Grandfather,
his son George Washington Everhart (1814-1886)
and Elizabeth Williams Everhart were my great x 2 grandparents
and their son
PHILIP Pendleton "Everhardt" EVERHART
1845 – 1919
was my great grandfather.
He joined the confederate army and ended up down in Fredericksburg Va where he was taken prisoner by the Union. He was married twice, the first marriage to a lady unknown produced great uncles Frank and George Everhart.
He then married Annie Baker Huckabee, my great grandmother. They moved to Baltimore Md after they had two children, my grandmother Ethel Maitland Everhart(1881-1945)and Albert Everhart.
My grandmother married Edgar Stanley Baker from Fredericksburg Va and they moved to Berkeley County around 1920. They finally made full circle and came back to the Everhart roots!
